The views from my room were absolutely stunning. The hotel is in a great location, a quick easy walk to St Marco Piazza and walking distance to most main attractions. The Vaporetto stop is virtually right out the front of the hotel. The staff were friendly and efficient.

Good location. Hotel was right on the water which was nice and a 10 minute walk from St. Mark's Square. Price was decent, given the location. One of the reception gentleman was helpful and even called us a water taxi the night before our departure. It was somewhat on time.

Staff wasn't particularly friendly or helpful. Room was quite basic - did not look like the rooms advertised! Bathroom was a "wet" bathroom, where the shower drains into the rest of the bathroom which I always find kind of gross.

Staff was very friendly and helpful, location is really great. We had dinner in the hotel's restaurant and food was great and with a normal price. Breakfast was abundant and tasty.

Everything is old, rusty and not necessarily clean. By far, NOT a 4*, maximum a 2*.

The view from the front Lagoon rooms was incredible and only about a 10 minute walk from s.marks square down the waterfront. Staff friendly and eager to help.

There was a bit of building work going on, it didn't really affect us as it was only during the day while we were out. But worth mentioning.

Great Location and great view on/of the Grand Canal. The building has great history and on a fantastic property.

The management has not explore the full potential of the great property they have, having said that, the interior of the hotel is somewhat on the rundown side. For what I have to pay, the room is poorly decorated. The single room I got/booked has nothing to do with what it is shown on Booking.com…..very disappointing!!

When commenting on a hotel in Venice you really have to rate on where you are and not compare to other cities. We wanted a view of the water and this hotel certainly has a fabulous view. The first room we were shown was too small but they didn't hesitate to offer an alternative. The view was lovely especially in the late afternoon. Breakfast was good and held in a lovely originally decorated front of the hotel. Furnishings are a bit tired but okay and you can tell you are in a hotel that was once a show piece. Overall a reasonable place to stay in Venice at a reasonable price compared to other hotels along that strip.

One thing that was a real problem though. Directly in front of the hotel is where a number of ferries parked for the night. They would arrive about 23:00 and for the next 6 hours would smash against each other due to all the water traffic. These are the public transport ferries and for some reason no one thought about putting some bumpers between the ferries. They would smash against each others sides with wood and metal scrapping together and whatever else was on the ferries bouncing about. For this reason I would not stay again in a room facing the water. Hardly able to sleep. All the other hustle and bustle noise is fine...people having fun and general shipping noise. That is all good stuff that you expect in a busy place. But this smashing crashing sound all night made it impossible to sleep. So...I would not stay again in this hotel as I do want a water view. But for people who do not then the hotel is okay.

we liked the location this time because it is near the Giardini and the Arsenale where the Biennale is held. Usually we prefer to stay in a more quiet part of the town.

The Riva dei Schiavoni is very crowded and busy. Lots of tourist boats and groups.

We loved the view, right on the water. Also loved meeting the owner, Carolina! She is really a wonderful person and a great example for the rest of her employees! The over 1,000 year history of the hotel is amazing! Thank you Gabrielli Sandwirth Hotel and Carolina!

The beds are very very hard! We love very soft beds.

Being eaten alive by bugs - very uncomfortable.

Its location right on the main canal and very close to Piazza de San Marco. The room was comfortable and the bed was firm!

The location was unbeatable. The arsenal stop was right in front of the hotel and we were just a few minutes Away from st.marco square. The staff was great the views from our balcony were spectacular.! Great place to stay for a true Venice experience!

We were very surprised since we had looked at some adverse comments on line. The hotel has lots of character and excellent decor. Location was excellent, both in terms of getting to and from the airport (used the Arsenale boat stop). Food was also great.

The location and view from the balcony are wonderful. I asked for a bouqet of flowers for my wife and they provided (for additional money of course).

Breakfast could be better for this money.
