Decent room, well located, near the train station and the city main tourist attractions

Internet in the hotel is caotic and does not work properly. Employees are not so friendly, breakfast is just fine, with a bad fruit juice.

Very central location, nicely decorated & spacious room it was a comfortable place to stay and would definitely go back there if in Lucca again.

Fresh orange juice at breakfast would have been nice.

Perfect location at the city center. Please note that the city is almost closed for cars but there is large and chip parking 10 min walking distance from the hotel (outside the city walls).

Standard room is very simple so I recommend to book higher level room.

Large comfortable room with balcony overlooking the square. Plenty of dtorage space. Slightly faded old fashioned charm

Bathroom was small and had not been well refurbished. Bath water was brown for first 24 hours and supply of hot water was erratic

This is a great hotel in a great location with fantastic staff. You could pay a lot more money and still not get the level of service matched with a location to die for - lovely square overlooking a wonderful theatre and another great square. We will be back.

The hotel was in a great position,easy to walk for bus an train.On the Piazza del Gigilo so all the rooms are bright an have spectacular views,rather than in the more built up areas .We had the sun in our room till it set which was great,lovely to just look out the window.The hotel dated back to the 1700s ,is one of the historical buildings in Lucca.The breakfast was fine,plenty to eat.In March the rooms still had heating on as first thing stiil fairly chilly.Staff friendly and all spoke English,We would go back again when visiting Lucca.

Great location for the James Taylor concert in the theatre opposite on the square. Friendly staff, good sized rooms, "faded elegance" Clean, but one of our party's room stuck of cigarette smoke, horrid. otherwise good and I would recommend this hotel.

Smell of cigarette smoke generally in the hotel, this is 2012 not 1962!

Excellent location, nice room, nice staff and beautiful breakfast.

Hotel Universo is in an excellent location. The room was large and clean and the bathroom was very modern. The staff were helpful and friendly. I would definitely stay there again

There were only 2 things that I would change. The first is to organise the breakfast room. It was a little bit crammed when it was full and the tables were uncomfortable to sit at because there was no leg room when there were 4 people seated. The other thing would be to put in a hand shower in the shower cubicle.

The hotel is in the main piazza and handy for the main shopping area

Apart from Ariana, the staff at the reception desk were cold and unfriendly. The hotel is shabby in places and we had a faulty toilet which wouldn't flush and a door handle which was hanging on by one screw. We asked reception to fix them and no one did so I had to fix cistern myself. We stayed for four days and though the bed was made and bathroom was cleaned it did not look as if the carpet had been vaccuumed.

We have stayed at this hotel two times in the past and love the old style and wonderful location. On this vacation, our classic room had a noisy air conditioner. We asked the staff if they might be able to fix it. When we returned at lunch, they had a beautiful suite ready for us. Unexpected, wonderful service. It is rare that a hotel will do the right thing and a delight when they do.Thank you, Hotel Universo!
