Decent room, well located, near the train station and the city main tourist attractions

Internet in the hotel is caotic and does not work properly. Employees are not so friendly, breakfast is just fine, with a bad fruit juice.

We have stayed at this hotel two times in the past and love the old style and wonderful location. On this vacation, our classic room had a noisy air conditioner. We asked the staff if they might be able to fix it. When we returned at lunch, they had a beautiful suite ready for us. Unexpected, wonderful service. It is rare that a hotel will do the right thing and a delight when they do.Thank you, Hotel Universo!

The Universo is in an excellent central location for exploring Lucca and very convenient for walking to/from the railway station.

Room (superior double) overlooked Piazza Napoleone, a busy square, so there was quite a lot of noise at times although this did not prevent me from having a good night's sleep. When I booked I knew that the Hotel had a long and fascinating history, but it could do with some refurbishment as the fabric is beginning to look shabby. Breakfast was adequate but very basic and my main complaint is that every morning the coffee/water in the 'urns' was warm instead of hot.

Perfect location. easy access to shops, restaurants, duomo, etc. Lovely modern clean room in traditional old hotel. Will definitely return & recommend to friends. Excellent value for money.

The only problem we had was to get the aircon in the room to work. reported to reception several times but never resolved.

Good situation in the centre of Lucca, balcony over the square. The staff were generally helpfull and pleasant

Lovely building but very dated and overdue a revamp. Room quite basic considering it was meant to be a superior room. Minimal toiletries. Breakfast was very cramped and disappointing with no fresh fruit, hot dish or toast. Not for those who are looking for a quiet weekend with its position in a very busy market square

Perfect city position , staff were helpful and courteous. Rooms clean and spacious. A perfect place to stay when visiting Lucca.

The location of the hotel is really good as it is right in the centre of Lucca.

The flip side of the central location was that there was a lot of noise from the square outside our window.The decor/furnishings of the hotel are needing updated.

It's location facing an historic Italian Square and the building itself (several hundred years old).

The noise from the preparation of various events that take place in the same square that was its most attractive feature. I guess you can't have everything

The hotel is in the main piazza and handy for the main shopping area

Apart from Ariana, the staff at the reception desk were cold and unfriendly. The hotel is shabby in places and we had a faulty toilet which wouldn't flush and a door handle which was hanging on by one screw. We asked reception to fix them and no one did so I had to fix cistern myself. We stayed for four days and though the bed was made and bathroom was cleaned it did not look as if the carpet had been vaccuumed.

Perfect location in Lucca. Large clean hotel. The rooms were a little dated but it was what we expected. The bathroom was very large and clean, comfortable beds. Nice breakfast included.
