The great location to all attractions in the centre of the city.
Location Staff were friendly Good sleep Traditional Italian Hotel
The shower didn't have a shower door, water could go anywhere. A better selection for Gluten free would better at breakfast
Right next to the Puccini opera.
Older rooms, wifi only in lobby, coffee was from an instant machine not freshly made
Good location friendly a helpfull staff , clean, quiet, and comfortable room
Bit tired but clean
staff so helpful ....location you couldnt get better .....been before and requested room in same area of hotel ...they gave us the same room we were in before ...top marks
no safe in room ...but you can use hotel safe which wasnt a problem
Location Great air conditioning Clean rooms
Very basic breakfast. The tea/coffee machine was shocking....worst coffee we had all vacation.
Great location, very reasonable rates, pleasant staff and the breakfast, which in previous years was not good, has improved hugely.
Not the hotel's fault, but the summer festival events take place right outside and if you stay when a concert is on it will be VERY loud! Fine, if it's something you like (you will get a 'free' listen though no view), but if it is something you don't then you may want to spend the time up to around midnight at the other end of the town.
My family and I have stayed at the Universo a number of times, the staff are all helpfull and friendly, plenty of choice at breakfast, clean room and comfy bed I love it
Excellent location walking distance from station. Staff were very, very friendly & helpful. Nice restaurants in square. Great location to enjoy the July music festival which takes place in the square. True Tuscan walled hilltop town, great experience to cycle around the walls. Ideal as a base to travel to nearby towns and cities.
You need to ask for directions in the tourist office in the station, otherwise like us you may not realise that you have to enter through one of the nearby gates & end up walking too far away from the hotel. Teresa & Joe, Limerick, Ireland
The location was good, and the hotel was reasonably easy to find. It was also fairly inexpensive.
Although clean, the room was musty, and did not appear to have been refurbished any time recently. The lights in the bathroom did not work, nor did the bedside lamp. Reception was quite rude, and there was no wifi access as promised.
Great place, staff excellent, rooms stuck in time gone by but part of the charm we thought. Definitely stay there away if visiting Lucca
capacious old-fashioned hotel - large rooms - a sense of the 18th & 19th century and yet completely comfortable in its amenities (including wifi which worked flawlessly). Breakfast was wonderful, and people more than helpful at the desk. I can't praise it highly enough.
It was disappointment - sorry , my lovely Lucca! Geographically it is great location but not during summer festival. Very noisy, extremely noisy! The concert ended about 23-30 and then the staff made their job. The windows are not soundproof. And in the early morning (about 5-00 am) cleaning streets began - another Great Noise !
We didn't like most of the things- very outdated style of the room, terrible beds, very poor breakfast, i think the hotel is overcosted !
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, they set the scene for relaxing. The hotel overlooks the Piazza Napoleone and is only a 10 minute walk from the railway station. The staff had us checked in , in 2 minutes, we had room 42 excellent size room and bathroom. Plenty of space to put clothes away, and a couple of easy chairs to rest in .
Breakfast room had too many tables in it , breakfast was adequate.
Location and nice friendly staff
Nothing to dislike, I guess just noise from the square, but not to bad,
Nice big rooms, lovely old décor and furnishings. Good breakfast.
Bed VERY uncomfortable.
Great location. Friendly helpful staff.
Rooms could use updating.
The hotel didnt provided shower cap
We were upgraded to the Junior Suite- a lovely surprise. The staff were very helpful and always had time for our enquiries. We enjoyed talking to them about Lucca. We coped with the continental breakfast and appreciated the espresso which you can receive if you request it.
We thought the breakfast could be more thoughtfully designed to cater for the taste of the British and American tourist. For example, a toaster with suitable toasting bread and cut tomatoes and cucumber to go with the cold meats and sometimes a fresh fruit salad.
The location, in a nice quiet square, no traffic. Breakfast is good.
Furniture is rather dated and so are the tiles in the bathroom, esp the floor tiles. There is a bath but no shower curtains or glass shield. I prefer box showers. The hair-dryer didn't work. And I think it is overpriced for a 3-star.
Poor breakfast selection Hotel felt 'faded'. Dull atmosphere.
Location, ambience. My room was good but they varied quite a lot. It's either noise from the square or a view of the dustbins so glad I had the former.
Nothing really. You can get over the coffee issue by going out before breakfast to Cafe Sylvia just round the corner.
The staff were very helpful and spoke english well. We were upgraded to a suite ,quiet and comfortable and we loved being inside the city, everywhere was so accessible. Would certainly recommend the Universo as a base to explore Lucca and surrounding countryside with excellent access to train or bus station
Breakfast was a bit cramped.
This hotel oozes pure refinement and class. Its location is wonderful.
We find our room a little noisy in the morning, but that did not really detract too much from our stay
