The staff were very friendly and the location was excellent.
The bathroom had no shower curtain nor drain in the floor, so flooded every time we had a shower.
Very nice breakfast variety, cute old hotel and clean
Staff members could be warmer and more welcoming
Location - 5 mins. easy walk to the railway station and very handy for All the sites.Very helpful and available staff. Breakfast. We were leaving early so the receptionist arranged for a "breakfast box" to be prepared for us.
Great location with delightful and helpful staff. Traditional faded charm.
No shower curtain and unable to leave window open because of cooking smells. However room very quiet as at the back of the hotel
The "honour" of being allocated Room 15 which was the room given to the jazz trumpeter Chet Baker in 1960.
The room numbering system is confusing.
Decor, food, facilities, lack of working aircon and price.
the location was excellent and the staff were very helpful. there were no tea making facilties in the room but we only had to ask at reception and it was soon arranged, Fantastic service.
there was nothing to dislike
Old AC, no coffee or tea machine in room
So central for everything and wonderfully pleasant staff. In its heyday a magnificent building and now faded grandure it certainly is, but with an undeniable charm. Tiny and rather dull breakfast room but bedroom fairly spacious with all mod cons and spotless towels and linen, all cleaned and replaced daily. Hope if they refurbish they keep the genteel charm and character of the building. Enjoy it for what it is. You will receive a warm welcome from every one of the staff and Lucca really is fabulous. Would go back tomorrow! spacious, spotlessly clean linen and towels. Comfy bed, all facilities present and correct. Very reasonable price for its location. some will not like it as it certainly needs investment, but I liked it very much, and the staff are wonderful. Would definitely return and enjoy its old world charm and it certainly has bags of character. Hope if they ever upgrade its done with respect for this lovely old building. Take it for what it is and enjoy a warm welcome and the genteel atmosphere.
Loved it all!
Location and ambience.
The staff spoke good English & couldn't do enough for us. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this hotel.
The location was excellent and the staff were very helpful.
We booked a superior double room but it didn't seem to be superior. It looked nothing like the pictures shown. There was flowered wallpaper everywhere, even the ceiling and doors and the curtains matched the wallpaper too so this made the room appear smaller than it actually was. There was no safe in the room and no shower curtain in the bathroom so water went everywhere. The bed was uncomfortable. I would still recommend this hotel though as the location was great and I think other rooms may be better than the one we got.
We have stayed many times at this hotel and as usual the staff were excellent in every way.
Our room was directly above the cafes and customers remained talking until about 3am. At 6am cleaning the square commenced. In short it was very difficult to sleep. Double glazing would help. Despite this the Universo is our favourite Lucca Hotel.
This 'historic' hotel is a bit out dated but has not lost it's charme. very well situated in the city center with a good parking arragement close to the hotel. Nice and friendly people
Bathrooms are out dated but clean
The great location to all attractions in the centre of the city.
The hotel is in an excellent location within the walls at Lucca and opposite the famous theatre. The staff - particularly Debra were most helpful and accommodating.
Some aspects a a bit "tired". The night manager was not helpful.
Intirieur decoration was nice. All you need for B&B was present. Location was direct in the City of Lucca ..nice. Walking directly on the piazza Napoleon ...texcellent
Breakfast was a bit a small setup.Free parking not available near this B&B. 1 1/5 km paid parking available. (Hotel) very outdated.
Location Staff were friendly Good sleep Traditional Italian Hotel
The shower didn't have a shower door, water could go anywhere. A better selection for Gluten free would better at breakfast
Right next to the Puccini opera.
Older rooms, wifi only in lobby, coffee was from an instant machine not freshly made
Good location friendly a helpfull staff , clean, quiet, and comfortable room
Bit tired but clean
staff so helpful ....location you couldnt get better .....been before and requested room in same area of hotel ...they gave us the same room we were in before ...top marks
no safe in room ...but you can use hotel safe which wasnt a problem
Location Great air conditioning Clean rooms
Very basic breakfast. The tea/coffee machine was shocking....worst coffee we had all vacation.
Location of the hotel close to the city centre and many restaurants.
Hard to find by GPS and car and the old smell of the building.
Great location, very reasonable rates, pleasant staff and the breakfast, which in previous years was not good, has improved hugely.
Not the hotel's fault, but the summer festival events take place right outside and if you stay when a concert is on it will be VERY loud! Fine, if it's something you like (you will get a 'free' listen though no view), but if it is something you don't then you may want to spend the time up to around midnight at the other end of the town.
