Location is excellent, staff very friendly and helpful, I recommend it
Bathroom too little, breakfast poor
Virtually everything. Beautiful old building well maintained. Lovely bedroom and very comfortable bed with crisp, clean sheets. Modern well equipped en-suite bathroom. Staff always very friendly and helpful.
The only thing that let it down for us was the breakfast. Not much choice, and not very appertaining.
Location is excellent and staff very friendly and supportive
very small bathroom.
location right in the centre of Lucca
room was rather shabby (although clean); one of the beds had broken springs.
Great location within the wall on attractive square. Room was large for Italy, clean, comfortable enough. Breakfast was good in comparison to most hotels in Italy. Staff friendly. Nice maids do very good job. Would stay here again.
As we had a balcony on the square, it was noisy in evening. This did not bother us, we expected it but for folks who want quiet don't get room directly on square.
Charming but tired hotel in great central location. A bit noisey at night but with windows closed and aircon fan on it was ok. Excellent restaurant next door. Bed squeaky and no screen or curtain to the in bath shower. Adequate continental breakfast.
Some of the cutleryand glassware was not clean in the breakfast room.
The appeal of Universo is a combination of slightly down at heel elegance and a sublime location within the city walls. It is so convenient. We could park near the railway station and walk backwards and forwards. The town was literally at the front door.
There is very little wrong with this hotel. It is centrally located, charming and it is delightful to walk across the square for evening meal or simply turn the corner to be in the centre of town.
the location, and the old fashioned style of the hotel were its strongest features. The staff were all very helpful and the room was a good size with a great view.
the pillows were slab-like. The hot water was sometimes not very hot.
The location was lovely and the public rooms are elegant. The staff are helpful. The bedrooms are comfortable.
The breakfast was adequate but not brilliant
leaking aircon horrible breakfast only stayed one night was meant to stay for there booked in elsewhere at three in the morning on my phone as I was so stressed, staff didn't care seemed as if they have to deal with the same complaints over and over changed rooms 3 times all of the smell damp and seem unclean avoid at all costs.
- very central located in the old town of Lucca - traditional style - very friendly staff - free wireless lan
- breakfast (I'd almost call it "american")
Good location. Prior to our stay we requested a room with a balcony on the piazza and this was granted.
No shower curtain - bathroom ended up very wet!
The staff were very friendly and the location was excellent.
The bathroom had no shower curtain nor drain in the floor, so flooded every time we had a shower.
Very nice breakfast variety, cute old hotel and clean
Staff members could be warmer and more welcoming
Location location location
The hotel is tired and badly needs a refurb. Shower leaking walls peeling bathroom tiles missing no shower curtain carpets threadbare.
Location - 5 mins. easy walk to the railway station and very handy for All the sites.Very helpful and available staff. Breakfast. We were leaving early so the receptionist arranged for a "breakfast box" to be prepared for us.
Great location with delightful and helpful staff. Traditional faded charm.
No shower curtain and unable to leave window open because of cooking smells. However room very quiet as at the back of the hotel
The "honour" of being allocated Room 15 which was the room given to the jazz trumpeter Chet Baker in 1960.
The room numbering system is confusing.
Decor, food, facilities, lack of working aircon and price.
the location was excellent and the staff were very helpful. there were no tea making facilties in the room but we only had to ask at reception and it was soon arranged, Fantastic service.
there was nothing to dislike
Old AC, no coffee or tea machine in room
So central for everything and wonderfully pleasant staff. In its heyday a magnificent building and now faded grandure it certainly is, but with an undeniable charm. Tiny and rather dull breakfast room but bedroom fairly spacious with all mod cons and spotless towels and linen, all cleaned and replaced daily. Hope if they refurbish they keep the genteel charm and character of the building. Enjoy it for what it is. You will receive a warm welcome from every one of the staff and Lucca really is fabulous. Would go back tomorrow! spacious, spotlessly clean linen and towels. Comfy bed, all facilities present and correct. Very reasonable price for its location. some will not like it as it certainly needs investment, but I liked it very much, and the staff are wonderful. Would definitely return and enjoy its old world charm and it certainly has bags of character. Hope if they ever upgrade its done with respect for this lovely old building. Take it for what it is and enjoy a warm welcome and the genteel atmosphere.
