Huge space, very charismatic, well positioned. Our favourite apartment during our 3 week visit!
Couldn't get our suitcases up to the bedroom due to the little staircase.
The place is IMMENSE, and, properly set up, could cater for eight people. We happily walked all over Florence from here. Three reasonable supermarkets within ten minutes walk.
Unstable and unreliable internet connection. The fridge is very modern (double doors on top with a large freezer below), but suffers from one silly design flaw - when you open the RHS door you cannot pull out the cheese drawer, so you have to open both doors. There is a very narrow spiral staircase to reach the bedroom, and this would be very difficult to impossible for large or infirm people.
The woman who received us, Agnes, was lovely. So nice! Her English is very basic but she tried hard and we were able to understand each other just fine. She made us feel very welcome. The apartment on the first floor of Via della Vigna Nouva had a lot of light, and was very spacious. There was a full kitchen to cook in with sufficient utensils-- although maybe there should be a few more plates and bigger coffee mugs... 4 are few especially with a dishwasher- we never were able to get a full load ready and had to wash plates for meals by hand for lack of plates and mugs. The apartment has had work done on it: the kitchen and bathroom seem new. Initially we were very excited about the location- close to the center but not right in the middle of the busy tourist área... but we later found out that it is extremely noisy.
I would not stay in this particular location again, and definitely NOT this apartment. It was SO LOUD. The loft's high ceilings have an intense echo effect of all noise from the street. Thus, the bus stop below the window actually sounds like the bus is in the room with you. It runs until 11:30pm and starts around 6:30am so we bolted awake most mornings with our hearts pounding after the bus stopped outside often honking and huffing. The street also connects the other side of the river to the center: this meant tons of people in the evening passing by on their way to and from going out- drunks and groups of people yelling and talking loudly kept us awake often until 3am, or woke us with a jolt during the night. (We bought earplugs and they made no difference, it literally is like they are in the room with you). We rarely got more that 4-5 hours of un-interrupted sleep. The Internet connection is non-existent. The router is not in the apartment, meaning it must be elsewhere in the building or in another one. We hardly ever had a signal (and had to lean out the window and wave the laptop around to get it) and it would only work for 5 minutes and then the server would lose the signal again. This was terribly frsutrating and disappointing since we had planned on using the internet to plan our activities. I feel that Internet should be a guarantee, not a maybe. The bed was uncomfortable and the sheets and blanket so small they barely covered us. (Half-way up our torso!) A small investment should be made in decent bedding. The water pressure was very unreliable. There was a nice massage shower in the apartment but the water pressure was so poor it was useless to try using it. The winding fireman-pole staircase to go up one level was a huge pain. When I booked the apartment I asked to see photos and was under the impression the apartment was all on one level. If you are over 5 feet tall plan on smacking your head on the stair rungs as you go up and down.
The apartment was just amazing, we enjoyed it a lot and definately this made our stay truly perfect. It was much above our expectations.
