Surprised to find no evening meal available. Thought from the website that this was an option. Once we knew, and thought of the place as a B&B, not an hotel, then everything was fine. Nearby restaurants in San Gimignano are excellent, so not a problem after the first night. Shower in our room was a bit odd, with no option to angle it properly, but flow of water was OK so we coped. When rooms above us were occupied, it could be very noisy and kept us awake. Glad they weren't occupied every night we were there, it would have been annoying to be constantly wakened up by heavy footsteps and drawers being pulled about, shower running etc. Clearer indication of where the reception is, would have helped first impressions. And better signage at the top of the road leading to Il Castagnolo would help the weary traveller to find it, too. There is a big metal sign up there, just not used well.
The location is wonderful, and very peaceful. Extremely comfortable and roomy bed. Emilio was very helpful in assisting us in paying a parking fine we got in Pisa (oops). Friendly staff, very friendly and fun dog which made the place feel like home. Nice sitting-out area in front of the house.
