Beautifully furnished, friendly staff, excellent breakfast. Excellent bathroom facilities.

If you drive a car, plan ahead and coordinate your parking so that your walk into the hotel is not too far. The room we chose had the lofts. You must be able to climb up and down the ladders to the lofts. The price should be much lower for the inconvenience of the lofts and small room.

Great location, staff, rooms, amenities, breakfast

I wouldn't recommend the small standard double room for mature couples.

The hotel is quirky, with some rooms being a bit tight. But the experience is fantastic. Staff are very helpful.

Friendly helpful staff, outstanding design of reception and room, location in the sassi, super comfortable bed, biggest shower of our three week tour of Italy, large breakfast, delicious cappuccinos.

    Nothing. Everything was perfect

The owner and other staff were friendly, warm and very helpful with anything we asked of them. The owner obviously takes pride in his hotel and it shows. It was beautiful inside down to every detail and the experience of staying in the sassi was amazing. This was the best decision I made while traveling to Matera and would go back again in a second. Breakfast was amazing and there were tons of options. Excellent wifi. AC worked great. The location was perfect and has incredible views just steps from the front door.

    Nothing!

The aesthetics--of both the lobby and the room. The bed was also very comfortable, the bathroom nice and spacious, and the location was good--a short walk, but definitely in the sassi.

The space for sitting or unpacking was very small, with room to lounge or work really only in the bed.

Staff was extremely accomodating and efficient. The second room (1005) was really nice and spacious. The hotel while very hard to find is in a good location in the Sassi. The breakfast was also good.

The first night we were in room 1008 and I believe that is a DANGEROUS room --- you enter the bedroom up steep stairs through a trap door. We made sure the trap door was shut while sleeping. The other side of the bedroom is reached by steep curving stairs. Other than this room this is a wonderful hotel and I would recommend it to everyone.

Everything is top notch but don't come in at night, you might not find the place ! And Matera is breath taking, to say the least .

Great location looking directly over the Sissi dwellings in the valley.

Staff member seemed indifferent. We were in the middle of winter in heavy rain and got the impression we might be a bit of a bother to the female staff member.

This is a really fun place to say but you need an open mind and sense of adventure for showering in a cave, low lighting and at least in the winter, humid. All of this added to the experience for me but it may not be for everyone. The staff were excellent, location perfect, breakfast could have been a bit richer, but it certainly was substantial. WiFi worked well in both the room with a cable and the lobby. Easy 12 minute walk from the train station but NOT easy to find due to poor street signage. Make sure you have a great map. Nice bathroom amenities.

A bit dark- after all it is a cave! And a bit hard to get the temp comfortable in the winter it was hot even with the window open. But great adventure

A must for us for any return trip. VGReally excellent breakfast .. a range of savoury and sweet offerings. Location couldn't be better in Center of Sassi. Staff are really lovely .. relaxed and welcoming. We chose the best value room .. just know it is small and access to bed is via small spiral stairs .. not for everyone but great value. Suites look amazing .. big .. easy access

This hotel had very friendly staff. The hotel was lovely and quiet and perfectly placed for exploring Matera. Staying in a cave was a great experience and we loved the HiFis set up throughout the cave. Lovely breakfast in the morning. We would definitely stay here again.

We stayed in the double-level room which was great for us but be warned that the stairs are very steep!

Beautifully designed boutique hotel right in the middle of the intriguing old city of Matera. An interesting transformation of a former church into a hotel with exceptional character.

Lovely town, really worth a visit. This is a very friendly hotel right in the Sassi area of Matera. Magical! The small room we booked had a great bathroom. We had a look round the other rooms in the hotel for next time and they are much bigger and really nice. Hi -speed free internet in the hotel lobby

The room we booked (all that was available last minute) would not be suitable for an older couple as access to the bedroom is up very steep loft stairs and you needed to crawl under a low ceiling to get to the bed, once in bed it was very comfortable and we had a good nights sleep

The staff are very helpful and speak good english. The hotel is very clean and its design is fabulous.

The room I stayed is very small. I was expecting the room like the one on the website, so I was dissapointed.

everything in this place is special. hospitality and price with a unique atmosphere. even the tiniest room has a rewarding view on the Sassi and the Duomo. no better place to stay when in Matera.

if any issue with walking there are few steps to take into consideration and the lack of parking(but perfectly arranged with a local garage service, though the extra price must be taken into budget).
