We stayed in a cave and the room was amazing. Didn't have to pay that much extra to go from the standard hotells to a four star hotell. It was really worth it.
Quality. Location. Friendly staff. Fantastic breakfast.
Bit tricky to find by car due to restricted access to the Sassi area.
Location and style of accommodation is fantastic
The location is perfect to admire, view and enjoy Matera.
Temperature is centrally controlled and heat was never adjusted properly. No windows so slept two nights with door open. TV gets only one channel, inter room phone does not work. Very uncomfortable to reach restaurant and move around, steep stairs slippery and uncovered. Not suitable for people over 40. Rather unfriendly staff, charged us for an extra night because we left early since we had safety concerns.
We booked a night at La Casa Di Lucio and on arriving were directed to their sister hotel, Sant'Angelo about 100 yards down the road. They advised they had actually booked us there and upgraded us to a suite. The room was beautiful in a great complex that included a very nice restaurant where we had our meal on the terrace overlooking the most amazing view. Service and food were excellent.
We cannot comment on La Casa Di Lucio but what we found in the room we stayed in was that the air conditioning was very noisy. There was a lovely net over the bed which we took down as it was on the way. The result was that we found that the bed was a little bit gritty (a bit like fine sand) and realised that the cave ceiling was flaking onto the bed - maybe we should have kept the net on? We did not have internet access either but would not have been able to use it anyway as our phones/ipad had run out of battery and we could not charge them (too low voltage we thought).
