Wonderful cave setting with a great location in the Sassi. Friendly and helpful hostess. Good supply of treats welcomed us upon our arrival. We stayed here for a total of 5 nights and although we enjoyed every minute of it, because of the natural humidity in the cave we found 5 days a bit much (even with the dehumidifier). Regarding earlier comments about the shower, we first experienced the same thing and then realized it was just a matter of making sure the shower curtain was placed correctly. The cave is tastefully decorated in old décor which adds to the experience. Definitely a must to check off great experiences!
Decorated with the old-world, enigmatic, fairy-tale charm of a Brothers Quay film (imagining the little handmade puppets around the place to suddenly animate into life). This was a lovely, atmospheric way to spend our three days in Matera. The gallery-apartment is caved out of the ancient Tuff but kitted with all the mod cons. A panorama from the doorstep and well-placed for walking itineraries, restaurants, churches etc.
The room was artfully decorated. The hosts were friendly. The location is good.
The room was very damp and smelled of mildew. The cupboard which held the dishes smelled very bad. The shower was not enclosed and the floor in the bathroom did not slant towards the drain, so the floor was always flooded and the water actually flowed out the room. Between the dehumidifier and the fans in the heating units, it is very loud and difficult to sleep.
