La Spezia is one of those typical cities of the Liguria Region where colourful houses cover hills and cliffs, providing panoramic views over the sea. Thousands of years of history and a heart open towards the sea have shaped the character of this town surrounded by the 'Cinque Terre'.
Located on the coast of the namesake gulf, its proximity to Genoa has greatly influenced its development and culture. Take a walk uphill from the harbour, and admire the display of architectonic styles in the Old Town. Some of the best hotels in La Spezia are located here, while elegant guesthouses and villas with gulf views can be found in the highest areas.
Must-see sites in the city are the 13th-century Church of Our Lady of the Assumption and St George’s Castle. The ‘Sea Festival’ is organized every summer, and its highlight is the rowing competition ‘Palio del Golfo’, a race between the 13 villages of the gulf. Departing from the port of La Spezia, boats can take you to the enchanted ‘Cinque Terre’.
The harbour is a 15-minute walk from La Spezia Central Station, and Genoa’s Cristoforo Colombo Airport is 105 km away. While planning your trip, check out Booking.com’s accommodation deals in La Spezia.

La Spezia was a great place to be based to visit Cinque Terre. The town does have a lot of graffiti though, which we initially regarded as being off putting, however we did not feel unsafe when we were there.

La Spezia is a great place to stay if doing the Cinque Terre trail. It is a nice spot with lots of shops and restaurants. November seems to be a quiet time for the area, we imagine it would have been busier and more atmospheric during summer months.

Beautiful town.
Beautiful town. Wish we had more time to spend another day there. We stayed overnight there so we could use the hop on hop off ferry to the Cinque Terre. Ferry as nice. Then took train back to La Spezia. Beautiful little city. We walked to the boat dock through the town. Lovely walk and harbor is very pretty. Got some delicious pastries in the morning, but we have no idea what they were - unfortunately. Also unfortunately we didn't get a chance to see anything else LaSpezia has to offer. I hope you do.

Listen .. if you are planning a 3-5 day exploration of Cinque Terre, use La Spezia as you base of operations. It is cheaper compared to renting a place in Cinque Terre. For me , it was a 12 minute walk to my accommodation. I could have taken a bus but La Spezia is very clean, no pollution. It is by the sea after all. If you find accommodations in Cinque Terre itself, its expensive relatively and you face the prospect of lugging your suitcases up and down steps, while thru claustrophobic alleyways . Cinque Terre towns are practically hills, homes and B&Bs are smacked right into the side of hilly country, side by side. In the evenings, if yoru schedule will allow for it, go for a scroll at the marina. Go La Spezia..

La Spezia is a beautiful village we used it as our base to hike but was sorry not to get to spend more time in the village itself. Beautiful restaurants and cafes. Train station was very busy so just allow extra time when travelling. Can't wait to come back
Michi was a fantastic host. She offers a very clean space with a well equipped kitchen. No issues with parking. There are some cute bars and restaurants down the hill on the marina. I would suggest making reservations during these times. I love the balcony area. Perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee or tea.
I would recommend driving or taking a bus to the train station to get to Cinque Terre and surrounding areas. I had better luck finding parking at the La Spezia Migliarina station than the chaos of dealing with Central.
The little hotel is driven by a wonderful woman, the rooms, very spacey, are totally new and beautifully decorated. Perfect bed and perfect bathroom. Outside a well kept garden with pool.
The most amazing breakfast, where the hosts bakes fantastic bread and cakes for the guests every morning.
The hotel is placed on a hill from which one can see a powerful view over La Spezia harbour.
In general we had a good experience at this hotel. The room was comfortable, modern, and clean. The best part was its unbeatable location, situated close to La Spezia train station, around 7 min walk. The room provided some amenities, including a kettle, refrigerator, hairdryer, and a small desk, making it a good choice for leisure travelers.
very very friendly staff. All of them. And the receptionist really took time to answer my questions about visiting 5 terre.
Breakfast buffet was much bigger than I would expect from a 2star hotel.
easy to find and only 10min walk from train station and a few min to center of La Spezia
A very kind and considerate owner or employer explained everything about the room and tourist places around. The best service we found around all hotels that we stayed in Italy. Extremely helpful with the luggage bags as there was no lift in the building
The room was very clean but on the small/cramped side. Check-in person was friendly and efficient. We had a car and there was free parking which was nice, but the road all the way up to the hotel was steep and narrow. It had great views of the city.
The staff in this hotel is really great, smiling, always helping and with a big deal of service. This is a simple hotel, easy to find by car coming to La Spezia. They have a shuttle bus going from the hotel and downtown. Nice and clean.
Everything; localisation close to train station and City center, cleanness and last but not least mattress: pretty new and not too soft at last, which cannot be said about other places we've slept during our stay in Italy
Best hotels in La Spezia.Staff are very friendly and help you with everything. They are very helpful from the time of check in to check out. It’s difficult to find a perfect hotel in La Spezia but Poet hotel is amazing.
If you travel with car it's perfect. The hotel was clean and there is space in front of the hotel to park your car. (It's impossible to park a car in downtown Spezia during the summer)
Amazing hotel, great pool overlooking La Spezia and nice staff. Also a good location if you want to visit the Cinque Terre. Breakfast also very good. Clear recommendation!
Location cannot be beat. The hotel itself is not in its prime, but the family and staff are wonderful and warm. The breakfast was home-cooked and memorably good.
