AWESOME Sassi, You must go there once in a life time. Hotel location is good and easy to locate from the main church. Walkable distance from central station to the hotel, less than 30 min. People in Matera are very friendly and helpful. I was so lucky I could see snow during my stay
The cave room is generally with lower temperature and shower water is not hot enough when it was 0 degree outside
Extremely spacious rooms, friendly staff, tasty breakfast, great location. Would definately stay here again if I return to Matera.
Friendliness of all staff. Also the location is as easy for parking as it gets in Matera. The location is wonderful for seeing the best sassi sights, but a little far (when walking in the cold with toddlers) from most restaurants, however the closest restaurant was also delicious. Very comfortable, clean and spacious rooms.
Maybe would have liked boiled eggs at breakfast? Limited non sweet options.
Bedroom was lovely, very big in the cave, clean and nice view. Very silent and slept very well.
the path and steps going up to the accomodation. Tell guests to take small and light suitcase. Breakfast could be better, cold croissant and heavy cakes, slice of cold pizza, need to improve.
Really beautiful place.
The town is the most unique on the planet. Staff was terrific and breakfasts were so good. We requested and were allowed to take food for hikes and travel. Room was large and even had a desk.
Parking is a huge problem and has to be away. GPS needed to locate hotel. Be in shape to climb MANY stone stairs. Wheeled luggage is a must for up and down.
That we were in Matera
The only staff we ever spoke to was reception. She had a bad attitude. The hotel room was far from the street and had to climb 300 stairs with heavy lugguage with no staff assistance. The room was beautiful. But misleading on the internet. Because of being a cave the room was very wet and had trouble sleeping due to the dampness
Very poor Breakfast without any fruit and any variety. Cold and tasteless coffee. disillusion in because the expectations regarding advertising. Before 8 in the morning the outside of the building works started without any concern with the guests
The location is awesome. The room was extremely clean and beautiful.
The air conditioning was down and it was hot. There was nobody at night we could ask for some help about it. The TV was small and old and there were just 4 channels ( we tried to find some more but it was impossible). The door of the shower was broken. I little too expensive considering these problems we had.
We thought we couldn't sleep in this "cave" room, but my family said she sleep very well. Aged TV? Never mind. Why bother watching TV if you have better landscape outside? And very nice staff.
Very hard to find the hotel location for the first timer. But if you go to 40.666182, 16.613418, you should find the hotel easier because there's direction to this hotel aka "Ristorante Le Dodici Lune".
Location, bedroom, staff
Big room in the sassi. Very good wifi connection. Convenient location to walk around
Car had to be parked at some distance
the service of the stuff was very good the room clean &comfortable breakfast very good location perfect
to much stairs you are recomended to leave suitcase in the car and bring with you only things for the night
The room was absolutely stunning and Matera itself such a beautiful and interesting town. The staff were very helpful and breakfast very good.
Be prepared for a slightly damp feel to the room - it is a cave after all! This is no way detracted from the overall experience.
The complete atmosphere. We had one small issue with the shower and the staff fixed it immediately! It was a marvel to, for a short time, live in a location once occupied thousands of years ago by mankind!
The overall location requires walking a lot of ancient steps.
Almost impossible to find a parking spot; Rooms...hmmm... :(
Location, location, location for a reasonable price.
If one has heavy luggage it could be uncomfortable to climb all the beautiful otherwise stairs.
This was an amazing hotel in the heart of Matera. We had specially requested one of the more traditional cave-like (sassi) rooms and were given an absolutely beautiful room - very pleased! Staff were extremely helpful and lovely. Breakfast was gorgeous with a lovely selection of pastries, cakes and focaccias. The whole city was just amazing and very fun to explore!
The hotel was decorated very well and the room was very comfortable.
The breakfast was very poor. Lukewarm coffee and just sweet breads, biscuits and croissants. I do not understand why the hotels do not do healthy breakfast. I asked for eggs and got them the second morning.
having experience of sleeping inside sassi(looks like)
1. Facility I booked twin beds and asked one more time to booking.com customer service, making sure of it. They replied with twin beds. But I arrived there, they gave me one double bed and an extra bed(very small, smaller than single bed. I asked them I booked twin beds room, but they said no more room left. And the room didn't look like booking page pics on the site. It was very unpleasant. 2. Internet not working I couldn't connect to internet. I asked them, now they told me the internet was not working. They said It had not worked from one day ago. he changed other router from the other room, but It still didn't work. and they said, 'sorry'. That was it.
We felt as if we were sleeping in a cave..just the experience we wanted. Close to outside of walled city parking. Great city to explore, gelato shops, great restaurants and shopping all without a car..loved it! Great staff!
We had the suite, at number 6. It was an amazing and surreal room inside a cave. I highly recommend it for couples. The room is huge and extremely comfortable. The lady running the hotel, explained to us how the project of transforming the caves from a derelict state they were in years ago, to what it is today, splendid rooms, came together. It is really amazing considering the difficult conditions to maintain such caves. You will have to walk up some steps to get to the hotel so pack lightly. Wifi does not work in the room but one can just go down to the reception area and pick up the connection there. The room is too lovely to be spending time on the internet anyway! I highly recommend it.
It's a real shame there is no bath tub in the room despite such big space. There is only a shower.
Carrying cases up the steps!
Spending the night in a cave was a novel experience. Good beds, very clean, easy walking distance to restaurants. Enjoyed wandering the paths that connected to the hotel. Very nice decor.
Room was very cold. Breakfast wasn't great.
