The location is awesome. The room was extremely clean and beautiful.

The air conditioning was down and it was hot. There was nobody at night we could ask for some help about it. The TV was small and old and there were just 4 channels ( we tried to find some more but it was impossible). The door of the shower was broken. I little too expensive considering these problems we had.

The room was absolutely stunning and Matera itself such a beautiful and interesting town. The staff were very helpful and breakfast very good.

Be prepared for a slightly damp feel to the room - it is a cave after all! This is no way detracted from the overall experience.

The complete atmosphere. We had one small issue with the shower and the staff fixed it immediately! It was a marvel to, for a short time, live in a location once occupied thousands of years ago by mankind!

The overall location requires walking a lot of ancient steps.

Location, location, location for a reasonable price.

If one has heavy luggage it could be uncomfortable to climb all the beautiful otherwise stairs.

This was an amazing hotel in the heart of Matera. We had specially requested one of the more traditional cave-like (sassi) rooms and were given an absolutely beautiful room - very pleased! Staff were extremely helpful and lovely. Breakfast was gorgeous with a lovely selection of pastries, cakes and focaccias. The whole city was just amazing and very fun to explore!

    Nothing!!

The hotel was decorated very well and the room was very comfortable.

The breakfast was very poor. Lukewarm coffee and just sweet breads, biscuits and croissants. I do not understand why the hotels do not do healthy breakfast. I asked for eggs and got them the second morning.

having experience of sleeping inside sassi(looks like)

    1. Facility I booked twin beds and asked one more time to booking.com customer service, making sure of it. They replied with twin beds. But I arrived there, they gave me one double bed and an extra bed(very small, smaller than single bed. I asked them I booked twin beds room, but they said no more room left. And the room didn't look like booking page pics on the site. It was very unpleasant. 2. Internet not working I couldn't connect to internet. I asked them, now they told me the internet was not working. They said It had not worked from one day ago. he changed other router from the other room, but It still didn't work. and they said, 'sorry'. That was it.

We felt as if we were sleeping in a cave..just the experience we wanted. Close to outside of walled city parking. Great city to explore, gelato shops, great restaurants and shopping all without a car..loved it! Great staff!

    Nothing!

We had the suite, at number 6. It was an amazing and surreal room inside a cave. I highly recommend it for couples. The room is huge and extremely comfortable. The lady running the hotel, explained to us how the project of transforming the caves from a derelict state they were in years ago, to what it is today, splendid rooms, came together. It is really amazing considering the difficult conditions to maintain such caves. You will have to walk up some steps to get to the hotel so pack lightly. Wifi does not work in the room but one can just go down to the reception area and pick up the connection there. The room is too lovely to be spending time on the internet anyway! I highly recommend it.

It's a real shame there is no bath tub in the room despite such big space. There is only a shower.

Spending the night in a cave was a novel experience. Good beds, very clean, easy walking distance to restaurants. Enjoyed wandering the paths that connected to the hotel. Very nice decor.

Room was very cold. Breakfast wasn't great.

    Beautiful accommodations.

Room was very cold though attractive. Carrying our bags up all the winding stairs was a struggle. It's quite a hike!

The room was clean and quiet. The shower pressure was good.

We asked about a place for dinner, were told of a good place that was a fifteen minute walk from the hotel. Actually there was a restaurant that was only a few minutes away from the hotel we enjoyed our meal and the owner was very pleasant. The hotel owner was friendly, however in terms of service she did the minimum of what you expect.

Location good in order to view sights. Great restaurants within walking distance.

Breakfast very poor compared to other places we have stayed. Restaurant advertised but not available. Room fairly enclosed withno access to outside re no fresh air and perfumed sticks which we were allergic to.

Being in historical centre of Matera.

Room is nothing like what you see on booking pictures, we were hoping for something more typical (Matera style), but it was just a room (less than basic style) therefore overpaid. It smelled on wall paint, was cold inside and loud during the nights (restaurant is under the room so you can hear guests). Hotel is quite hidden and not reachable by car so you need to park far away and walk a lot. In hotel no one helped us with bags, just indicated room was up the stairs. Internet password they gave us had like 40 random characters... I guess they have fun with tourists there.

The location is excellent for both sides of the Sassi and staying in one of the converted homes is special. Matera is a superb place to visit. Parking was free but there are a substantial number of steps to the hotel that with luggage are and when wet are pretty hairy. Choose another hotel if carrying your luggage up a large number of steps is an issue.

We never really felt welcome & it didn't feel like a friendly environment. We were there out of season and we felt a bit like an inconvenience. In fact one lady who worked there clearly looked down her nose at us one morning - both of us noticed it and it made us feel very uncomfortable. Saying that - the person who checked us in and out was great and she really made up for it.

This is a pretty special town with an amazing history and these accommodations were the perfect place to relax in the history of a cave. We had a suite that was incredibly large and had lots of room for more people with two additional beds. There was a nice patio with table and chairs to sit and read just outside our room. The rooms are centrally located and easy access to parking. (Yes, you'll have to walk everywhere here..its the nature of the historic town) The restaurant served us an amazing dinner and the best fresh mozzarella I've ever had. Very fresh ingredients straight from the local farms. We traveled to Sicily and southern Italy this trip and thought this was our favorite meal. Our host was wonderful.

Like much of Italy the breakfast included was mostly sweets, breads and some yogurt. It would have been nice to have a choice of egg, even as simple as a boiled egg to start the morning. The room was wonderful but I was hoping for a bathtub like some of the other accommodations nearby. Since this is an historic town and there is so much to see and read about, we didn't see a need for tv but if you are a tv buff the location and size of tv was not the greatest. But it just means you need to read more or take advantage of this romantic room in other ways!!!

I didn't get a good vibe from staff when I asked for breakfast to be earlier than 8:30 as I had to go to work. They managed an earlier breakfast 1 in 3 mornings. Also, they play loud music in the courtyard, regardless of whether rooms are on the courtyard and you are trying to sleep. Didn't really like this hotel and will not stay there again.

Our cave was huge, more like a luxury suite and beautifully fitted out. Parking was easy and once parked you don't use the car anymore - great to be able to walk everywhere and explore the old town and sassi. It was also fantastic to be so close to the walks into the gorge. You do need to walk to the hotel and manage steps but the young guy who checked us in asked if we needed help with luggage ( we didnt). He was extremely helpful, but we didnt see him after the first day. The remaining staff were OK but not so friendly.

Dinner at the restaurant was disappointing with bizarre, "Fawlty Towers" service and mediocre food - not recommended.
