Small rooms Basic choices for breakfast
Nice location, walking distance to city center.
Breakfast is very poor
The rooftop terrace is a great place to relax after a day walking. The location is good - it's well served for public transport, and there are lots of reasonably-priced cafes and restaurants nearby.
The choices at breakfast were poor, no fruit available at all, we ended up buying our own. The walking directions to the hotel were incorrect - it's in a different street.
Helpful staff, the rooms were pleasant (minibar and tea/coffee in the room). The hotel is 15 minute walk from the Jewish ghetto, offered a small kosher breakfast, a "Plata" was supplied on Shabbat.
Was in a nice location - Trastevere. Was initially greeted by a friendly member of staff, but the gentleman on duty after reception closed was very unhelpful later in the day. Breakfast area nice - but poor service.
Room was small & very bad value for money compared to the apartment we got just down the road for 35 EUR a night less for our first two nights stay in Rome at the beginning of our holiday. Floor tiles in room were cracked & wobbly, shower in bathroom needed a clean. Was a big problem with the key we were given as we struggled to open the front door with it & spent 20 mins trying to make it work before we could go out & be sure we could get in the building again. Staff member was very unhelpful. As we opened the door, a couple were waiting out on the street in the dark who were waiting to be checked in, despite there being a staff member inside who wouldn't even come down the stairs to help us. Also the same person wasn't very friendly or helpful at breakfast either. Fortunately, we had a nice experience at the beginning of our stay in Rome, spent little time in the room & flew early the next day, so this didn't ruin our experience of Rome too much.
Nicely fitted room, good size, clean. Great terrace and nice dining room.
Shower tiles mouldy, shower door broken, no milk, no teaspoons or water in room. Staff indifferent.
The location is fantastic, and incredibly friendly staff, that also speak English well. Very clean as well.
Bed was okay, could have been better.
Thnks to Uri that guided us all over the way
This is my second time staying at Locanda Carmel, the first was in 2008 with my brother and 93yr old grandfather. This 2014 trip was for my honeymoon, and although Rome offers many hotel options, I insisted we stay at "the Locanda". Since 2008 they now offer a continental breakfast at the hotel. You are centrally located in Rome; easily in walking distance to The Colosseum, Piazza Navona, Piazza Venecia, the Roman Forum, Fountain Di Trevi and the Pantheon, just to name a few. If you're not too keen on walking, the Tram (which leads to the city center) is literally a block away, and there is a bus that goes to the Vatican up the street. Some of the best food we ate was right next door. Staying at Locanda makes your trip so much more authentic; you are not surrounded by tourists, rather locals who love to engage in conversation and help in any way. Claudia at reception was absolutely fantastic and helped my husband and I with all of our needs, in and out of the hotel. Not to mention the gorgeous garden terrace! One thing is for sure, when I do return to Rome, I will stay here for a 3rd time, I wouldn't ever consider another place!
I can't think of a single downfall - staying here is definitely the way to go!
The hotel in general, really cosy and beautiful. We also really appreciate the staff who were waiting for us beacause we arrived very late due to flight delays, that was very nice. Hotel is really calm, was great to relax.
Breakfast could be better, we didn't had a lot of choice in term of food but we enjoyed to had it during the morning on their beautiful roof.
Excellent location, walking distance from historical center, quiet area, nice rooms, fine breakfast terrace.
No reception area with chairs for meetings, some rooms lack wifi.
the bed was comfortable
the shower was extremely small and the decor in the room was in need of renovation (e.g. peeling wallpaper). Also the breakfast was extremely basic (only bread and jam and one kind of cereal; no yogurt or fruit).
breakfast on the terrace
The people who worked there were really friendly and helpful. The location is perfect! Near the river and all the restaurants little streets. It was beautiful in this area. For us, that was the most important thing, a good and fun neighborhood.
The beds were terrible. The room in general was pretty sad. Really small and really dated. Also, out airconditioning didn't work, there was no safe as promised and the WiFi was pretty slow in the room. Breakfast was another disappointment. They only had bread with jam.
Lovely breakfast terrace. Good location.
The location was close to everything we wanted to see. It felt safe. The staff were very nice.
The WiFi only worked if I was in the hallway or the lobby. Did not work in any of the other public areas. I would have liked breakfast to begin at 7 or 7:30. Eight was a bit late for us because we had so much to see and do.
Located in Trastevere. Nice facilities for the money, Free breakfast.
No wifi in the rooms.
Being familiar with European rooms, the size was enjoyable. It slept three with comfort and afforded our youngest to have three in a bed, thsu four nicely. Only needed room for sleeping. Price was very good and allowed easy access to transit for various excursions to tourist areas. Thsi included tram and bus - one block. Safe area with police station right around the corner. Nice peace of mind. Desk staff (female) was very friendly and assisted greatly. Private washroom. Clean room in total.
To advertise that breakfast included, was slight emblishment. Had coffee and bread roll with spread only. Cereal without cold milk and having to ask for dishes and be given two when four were in family is frustrating - may have been language problem though.
Extremly small rooms, little variety of food for breakfast, horrible Internetconnection.overpriced.
location - Trastevere If this is your second visit to Rome a great area to stay. Presumably you have done all the touristy things on your first visit and would maybe like to experience a different side of Roman life. Most of the tourist attractions are not just next door. Having said that, I would have loved to stay in this area on my first visit as less tourists stay in this area. price for what you received was good.
The woman on reception was horrible. She was ridiculously unfriendly. To be honest she made us feel like we were a bit of nuisance. How hard is it to offer a map to out of towners? And show us where the hotel is on the map. It seems to be the standard practice if you work in a hotel in Italy and is what we received everywhere else we went. She couldn't recommend any restaurants because there were so many in Trastevere. There were two other employees on the desk on other days who were more helpful.
Great location. Would recommend staying in Trastervere. Helpful, English-speaking staff. Lovely roof terrace.
There was a kettle, but only de-caff coffee (I like my caffeine in the morning!) and no milk.
in a residential neighborhood, 2 blocks from the tram and bus with easy access across the river into Rome. Great for getting off the beaten path. very helpful staff.
