Traveled around Italy week of March 17. This hotel is only a few blocks from the hotel, it’s an easy 10 minute walk from the station. From the Firenze Santa Maria Novella train station, head out to the east exit. Cross the street, and walk to the left. Turn right on the first street and Villa Faenza is the dead end street ahead, turn right and look for the address. The reception desk is across the street, in an old building. When we got there, the receptionist was very helpful and gave us a quick orientation. Instead of staying at the Locanda across the street, she gave us a room in the building where the reception desk is. Do not be worried about the old façade and lobby – this is typical of small budget hotels in this area. The room we were assigned to was located on the second floor, and the rooms are newly refurbished and very clean. They had free wi fi and breakfast was served at the ground floor area. It consisted of bread, cheese, yogurt, some spreads and jams, coffee and tea. It was varied enough and very good value for the price you pay for your stay. The hotel’s location is perfect for sightseeing and shopping – near enough the major churches and museums, the high street, and Mercato Centrale where the open air leather goods market was also located. Locals were very helpful, except for the Mandarin Duck sales staff in the store located near the Duomo, where staff was rude and did not want their merchandise touched.
The hotel allows you to leave your bags for as long as you like while sightseeing, they had a small bag closet where luggage can be kept after checking out in the morning. We had a late afternoon train to catch for Venice, so after checking out in the morning, we came back to the hotel and collected our luggage after our day’s sightseeing. Staff are young, helpful, and can speak good English. They can also provide you with directions for sightseeing complete with a friendly smile.
