Locanda Il MaestraleVia Roma 37, 19016 Monterosso al Mare (Show map)
Superb,
Score from 118 reviews
“ Very charming lodgings in a lovely town. The plant-filled terrazza--suspended above and overlooking the street--is a real gem. We spent only one night, but I can imagine comfortably using Il Maestrale as a base for a longer stay. Very helpful and accommodating staff. ”
Susan,
Roma
With a pretty garden with flowers and sun loungers, Locanda Il Maestrale overlooks Monterosso al Mare's historic centre. Set in an 18th-century building, it is 500 metres from Monterosso Train Station. Rooms have warm colour schemes and tiled floors. All air-conditioned, they also feature a flat-screen TV, minibar and private bathroom with a hairdryer and toiletries. Free Wi-Fi is available in public areas. The breakfast buffet includes sweet and savoury products, and is served either on the outdoor terrace or in the dining room with frescoes ceilings. We reserved our room in Cinque Terre to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. Our host recommended a restaurant and made a reservation for us. When we arrived at the restaurant a table right by the sea wall of the Mediterranean sea with candles was reserved for us. It was like a page our of a romance novel. We had arrived early in the day and our host took our luggage while we went to visit the other villages. When we returned our bags were in our room. This was our most luxurious room that we stayed in while touring Italy. They also spoke English and communicated well with us. A nice breakfast is served with Caffe' Latte and fresh squeezed orange juice. The other bonus is parking in the garage just about a block away. Parking is hard to come by in Italy.

Cannot recommend this b&b enough!!! Our stay was amazing! Location was perfect! The staff were wonderful, very happy and helpful with everything. Made us eggs on toast every morning! Even helped up locate the laundromat to do some washing. We stayed for three nights and it was just perfect! Our room was a great size and we loved the terrace overlooking the streets!! Was so nice to sit up there after spending a day hiking to the other villages and just relax watching the locals go about their business in the street!! Truly wonderful place to stay and we would definitely stay there again!!!! U must stay here, you won't be disappointed!!

I have chosen this hotel by its score and location. And I was delighted. I have just spent a few good minutes to decide how to start describing the merits of this hotel. There are many, and all are equally significant. We got the "Corniglia" room which is just next to the reception lobby. The room was exceptionally clean and nicely decorated. We prefer a shower over a bath, and here we got a very comfortable shower (there was no bath). But what really shines in this hotel is the big balcony overlooking the main street of Monterosso. This balcony serves as a garden, a breakfast space and a place to relax. There is always coffee/tea, and fresh fruits. There is even a machine to extract fresh orange juice, all free of charge. The breakfast on this balcony was an unforgettable experience. I was quite nervous booking this hotel because I travelled with a car, knowing the restrictions imposed on motorists in Cinque Terre. Therefore I was delighted to learn that there is a multi-level parking garage just about 50 meters from the hotel (although the parking fee is 18 Euro per 24 hours). And finally there is Giovanni, the owner and the operator of this place. His warm hospitality made our stay even more exceptional. There are 23 steps to the reception.

The owners were extremely helpful, from giving us some info in which trails were open (it had rained for days prior) to helping us find a place to get our laundry done during the low tourist season. The rooms were spacious with a large closet. It was nice and quiet. Less than 10 minute walk from train station and new town. I got nothing.

The Staff was helpful. The hotel has it's particular charm with the lovely terrace and fresh squeezed orange juice. Room window has no view but kind of part of the local architecture style with the narrow roads, and besides it was very clean and comfortable. The Location is perfect. A bit expensive but ok for the hotel prices in the region. We highly recommend this hotel and a trip to the Cinque Terre.

This little B&B was a great place to stay. There's a fresco painted on the ceiling of the room. Super cool. Very comfortable, great location in the old town, and breakfast was simple but good. Highly recommend.

Very good breakfast, enjoyed on a delightful shady verandah. Freshly squeezed orange juice is also available all day, as well as croissants and tea/coffee. The bed was comfortable and supportive for our ageing backs. Wifi worked well, and the shower was very good. It is centrally located, close to a large number of restaurants and the beach. The crowning glory is the shady verandah, where we spent many happy hours on lounges. I'm pleased to recommend this establishment. Gabrielle of Sydney, Australia

The room was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and served on a charming terrace. The owner was helpful. It was comparatively expensive. The hotel is located on the first floor only and the ground floor entrance was bare and off putting.

Lovely place right in the centre of Monterosso but just up 1 of the main streets in the old town close to all the action but just far enough away not to be disturbed by any noise at night. Lovely outside alfresco dining area and superb breakfasts. One of the best places we stayed in Italy.

This is a beautiful place to stay in the old part of Monterosso. Our room, one of the suites, had a comfortable bed in the loft, a large sitting room downstairs, a nice bathroom, and the most blessed feature: air-conditioning. The common areas of a hotel make you feel like a guest at a classy mansion, with a lovely patio looking over the quiet street and friendly, accommodating hosts. Delicious breakfast in the mornings.

What an incredibly magical place, Monterrosso. And this hotel was a charming spot in which to enjoy it from. The narrow stairs from the bedroom to the rest of the room were a little dicey at night. Do only bring luggage you can Carry up a long flight of stairs after a tiring travel day. The croissants were inedible, but the rest of the breakfast was pleasant.
