눉Locander La Lanterna is a restaurant (not a guest house), the room is in another part of the village, designated arrival time was not before 18:00 which is rather late (I think it was because they had a long siesta (Riposo) in the afternoon which coincided when they re-opened the restaurant), however for us it did mean we had more time to visit elsewhere before going there.
The room could have had another or a bigger window, air conditioning that worked properly, the landlady could have been less grumpy, Car Parking less difficult.
There is no parking free or paid near either the property nor the Restaurant, the nearest parking to tourists is on the narrow winding road leading to the village, about 1/4 mile from the property, but you need to pay 2 euros per hour for that between 8am-8pm (free around that), but not advised for these reasons 1- looking at the damaged sides of the vehicles parked there, 2 - the narrowness of the road, 3 - the Italian driving temperament and 4 - usually full anyway, further up the road about 1/2 mile away up hill there is a small safer car park for about 12 cars, same price per hour but 10 euros for all day, which is what we used (to avert damage to the rental car we had), there are a few free parking spaces on 2 bends a little further uphill from this car park, but these were all full and had the same risks as the pay ones on the roadside lower down. Do not try to park in the pay ones without paying, there is a hut half-way up the road for the local parking inspector and he seems rather keen, I saw at least a dozen cars with parking tickets!
눇The Location was brilliant, Corniglia is probably the prettiest and quaintest village on the Cinque Terra coast and one of the most beautiful places in the world.
The village has several snackbars/cafes (Trattorias), shops, at least 2 Ice Cream parlours (Galateria), and 2 good restaurants
The shower worked, the bathroom amenities were ok, the room was clean
When we got the e-mail confirming the booking there was a note stating that there is no road access to this property, as we were arriving by car I looked into this and found some info that there was a landslip so the access road was closed, I also found some contrary information that if coming by car you had to transfer to a bus (to prevent too many tourists on the road) at a special car park, leaving the car overnight at between 12-20 euros or get the train, but when going there fortunately we found neither were true, for Corniglia anyway (the bus transfer was for some of the other villages, the landslip was on some of the trekking paths), the narrow winding road to the village is open, but the closest you can get is the village square, (about 200m from the property) with parking spaces for dropping off or picking up luggage (marked but no time limit stated), a local told me it was only allowed for a short time, just to load/unload, there is parking further away but it is a problem (see negative part of this review).
The restaurant served delicious fresh seafood dishes.
The rocky cove where you could bathe in the sea was brilliant for swimmers (not so good for beginners), but a steep walk uphill back to the village.
If you go by train the station is a good 1 mile stiff uphill walk, or get the local minibus from the station to the village for e2.50 each it runs about every 30 mins, but it varies, it does not run on any timetable I knew of, this bus also goes out of the village but I'm not sure where it picks up?
