What a pity that the room did not match the food! We had a suite and the
cheapest room in the building but it was really a double room with a
table and chair! Hardly any of the lights worked - including the one on
the landing - we had to use a torch to ge down to dinner. There were
several things hanging off the wall and it was just not well maintained.
The towels were stained. Also it is a working vineyard and, although it
is a peaceful location, we were kept awake until 130am by the workers
working on the vats right outside our window and woken again at 7am when
they turned up the following morning which spoilt our stay. We felt the
room was overpriced - having stayed at some Relais Chateaux hotels which
have been much more luxurious but cheaper. We would happily have
returned for a longer stay for the food but sadly not for the room.
The dinner - it was truly the most amazing experience we have had for
dinner in a long while and we have eaten at some great Michelin starred
restaurants. We were the only guests so we had dinner in the main room
with our own waiter - it was candlelit and romantic. The meal was not
cheap at e43 but fantastic - we had sea bass in coffee and peach juice,
guinea fowl from the estate, clam risotto with lemons, - it was all mouth-
watering and beautifully presented - each course a work of art and the
chef is only 20 - surely someone we will hear about in the future. It
was all accompanied by the estate's wine which was just as
delicious. That night will be something we will remember for ever!
