Score from 297 reviews Very good
Liked the awesome view of the sea. The restaurant in the village associated with the hotel was very good. The lady doing breakfast was pleasant after she got to know us a little.
When we arrived no one spoke English. We had sssumed there would be staff on site thru the day to help with questions. We had been told there was taxi service available. In fact there was none. The owner did take us back and forth once a day A little more variety for breakfast would have been nice.
Awesome location between Cornaglia and Vernazza. Elegant and comfortable rooms, very friendly owner. Wish we could have stayed longer. Great breakfast options.
Owner does not live on premises.
Our room was nice and pleasantly furnished. If you do decide to stay at the inn, you will enjoy the ocean view from the garden; the walking path to the village of San Bernardino is also a delight.
You NEED a car to stay at Locanda Valeria. The inn is very isolated; about 3 Km from the village of Corniglia up a steep, narrow, unlit paved road without any sidewalks. The website warns of the lack of access but implies there are taxis or at least a reservable shuttle. HOWEVER, in Corniglia, there are not any taxis nor auto rentals, and the only public transit is a regularly scheduled –but only twice a day– shuttle bus between Corniglia and San Bernardino, the closest village to Locanda Valeria. And even though that shuttle bus will drop you off, or pick you up, along the road when it passes the entrance to the gravel road to Locanda Valeria, the gravel road is about 200m long and is a strain when carrying luggage. Locanda Valeria appears to be staffed only during the morning breakfast hours, and there isn’t a phone in the room. Without a car, a medical emergency becomes a very significant event. If you travel Italy without a car as we did and plan to visit the Cinque Terre area, I strongly recommend you ensure your stay is WITHIN one of the villages served by the local train.
Great location , clean and quiet
No tea or coffee facilities onsite , only during breakfast hours of a morning ????
We arrived when the whole electricity of the properly and area was down (due to a Big Storm), unfortunately could not bee fixed over night, but the Gentleman welcoming us was very kind And welcoming!
Breakfast Lady not really interested, could have proposed a bottle of still water in the Morning at for us to brush the teath at least... As due to the electricity the water was off as well...
The location was awesome and we fell asleep listening to the ocean waves! We took the path down the mountain to Vernazza (and then a boat to Manarola and back) and then hiked back up!! (Part of the trail had been washed out during a storm earlier and that changed our plans for the day---so check before you leave!!) It was a spectacular place to visit and the accommodations were great. We didn't realize that check in was from 11:00am-1pm so ended up getting there late at night and had to wait for someone to come to let us into our room, but had very helpful guests who called the owners who came later. Would love to stay here again in the future!
The view of Vernazza and Monterozzo cannot is beautiful and access to the hiking trail down to Vernazza is helpful. Breakfast was plentiful and good. Our room was great with a big bathroom.
The thing to keep in mind is that the location is a good hike to Vernazza. That can become an issue at night since you'll likely be eating dinner in one of the towns and it will be dark coming back. You probably won't want to hike uphill 45 - 60 minutes in the dark, so transportation will be required. Taxis are not a given to get you back up the hill. If we return to the area, we would stay in one of the towns to make the night time returns easier to manage.
Beautiful view Great location
hard to get to property
Beautiful place in a lovely location. I loved the hardwood floors and beams in the ceiling. Very comfortable and liked having a small balcony. Breakfast was very good and were able to eat outside. I greatly appreciated Lorenzo driving us back each night and that Carlos, the original owner of the farm, drove us to the train station on the day we left. Overall a lovely place with a fabulous view.
The invoice did say there was no local transportation to the house but it did list taxi as an option. Upon arrival I was told there was no taxi. I did not have a rental car. We relied on a restaurant waiter to drive us back to the house each night. It's a short drive but felt we were inconveniencing him but we had no other choice. This house is listed as being in Vernazza, but is actually closer to Corniglia. One other couple there had the same issue with location. They did have a car but got lost trying to find it. I had to take the train from Vernazza back to Corniglia to get a ride to the house. Each morning I hiked 30 minutes straight down to Vernazza instead of waiting for a ride, which ws fine as I planned to hike anyway. Rides in the morning to town were harder to arrange so this was the best option for me to get started on my own time. I would stay here again but would only do so with my own car. No wifi.
The view and quiet location
Driving there was a challenge when you don't know the local roads. Our GPS took us a different route out that was easier.
very nice view nice rooms with a nice balcony charming garden friendly and helpful staff Perfect if you like to hike and if your vacation is about relaxing and gathering energy Dog-friendly place all villages are easy to reach either by hiking or by car
No minibar service
It looked like a great location and beautiful hotel.
We emailed the day before arrival and called and spoke to someone the day of our arrival letting them know our arrival time. No one was there to let us in and they were not answering any of their phone lines. Waited for over an hour. Left and stayed elsewhere.
Driving to place awful. No staff on site overnight
Immaculate 6 unit house overlooking the Cinque terre and Mediterranean. Located in the middle of the 5 villages just off the main road. Continental breakfast was great and accommodations were modern, clean and tidy. Service was excellent.
Nothing but good things to say.
Location Views of cirque Terre Silence Large lattés for breakfast Helpful friendly staff Proximity to the beautiful path to San Bernardino sanctuary, where the great little bar there was a real surprise
We didn't have a car so depended on helpful staff toy ferry us up and down to Corniglia for dinner. A hotel shuttle bus is advertised, but it's not that organised. Path 7 runs into the property-while it goes to Vernazza, it's quite steep and not in great repair. The walk to Corniglia is along a narrow mountain road and not very appealing or safe in my opinion. An honesty bar for tea coffee water wine would be great- this could lead to a security issue, but bear in mind that once breakfast finishes there is no access to any of these on site- however that's where the bar in San Bernardino comes into play! Factual information on local paths would be useful, especially as most visitors arrive by car and haven't done much walking prior to arrival.
The view was amazing.we started to understand the view comes with being in such a remote location. The staff was super friendly although hard to communicate with and hard to catch them at the actual hotel. The breakfast was delicious and coffee/Cappucino was great also. Matteo and one of the girls serving breakfast were very nice and drove us down to the city when it was raining. The trail starts on the property (which would have been nice to know) as it is super convenient compars to the hike to Corniglia to start the trail there.
Although I read the reviews that this hotel was very remote, I didn't take it seriously. The nearest town is at least a 40min walk down hill on the actual road, Which means going back to the hotel is 40min straight uphill on the road. The last day we were here, we finally figured out the bus schedule and that it takes you to the town and back to the hotel for 2 euro (well worth it, after hiking up the hill for 40min). I wish the hotel had provided this info for us as we would have been less annoying for them! Also the trail starts at the front of the hotel property, and we discovered this on the very last day as well. Wish someone would have told us!
The view was great The room clean A/C Shower Bottled water in room Hiking
Owner not present unless called for check in, only speaks Italian which in person is not bad but when attempting to call to check in was tough. No person around except at breakfast Can be a challenge to drive too if not experienced in driving in mountains and single lane roads Room had one odd glass which was a challenge for sharing wine
location silent view extremely nice room sunset clean
Secluded. Out of the way. Without a car you have to walk a lot and work out local transport. No wifi.
Loacted at a very beautiful place. Staff is quite nice. Facilities are comfortable. It is hard to reach the hotel through public transportations, however the owners ran us from and to the train station. A very good choice when traveling to the Cinque terre.
Great views Secluded location Right on the trail to Vernazza (20min walk) Owners gave lifts from Corniglia Good breakfast Great to explore Cinque Terre on foot from
Getting to it without a car would be difficult if travelling with lots of luggage.
We loved the place - between Vernazza and Cornelgia! Can walk to Vernazza on small trail (but wear appropriate shoes!) that hooks onto main trail connecting towns. The place is quaint, very clean and offers the regular ammenities. The owner/staff - Carlo and Luisa - so kind and welcoming. It felt like we were staying with family. We will return one day if given the chance!
It would have been nice to have Wifi.
The rooms with a sea view are spectacular. Really remote and quiet. There is a walking track to Vernazza from the hotel which takes about an half an hour down and an hour back up. Some really great views along the track.
We were late arriving but the owner came within 10 minutes of ringing. Unfortunately they had given our room with a sea view to another couple. On more investigation it turned out the couple told the owner they were me on seeing my name on a key for a sea view room. So not really the owners fault. We slept our first night without a sea view but the owner allowed us to have the room free of charge as we had booked for two nights in a room with a sea view. The other couple were asked to leave the next day so we had our sea view room which made up for all the hassle.
The sea view was amazing from our balcony. The location was a very long hard walk from town and we didn't have a car. The staff was kind enough to drive us to and from town a few times. I would definitely recommend having a car if you aren't willing to trex into town everyday. I nice bonus is that there is a hiking path directly behind the hotel which may be used to get to corniglia or Vernazza
- Great Room - Amazing location - Friendly (though mostly absent) staff
- It is not a negative aspect, just a suggestion: if you would serve meals there (other than breakfast), I think I would never leave the hotel :)
