I have stayed in this hotel several times before and I absolutely love its somehow obsolete charm. However this was the first time I stayed in the cheapest room category and I must say it was a disappointing experience as the room I was given lacked any charm at all... Will go again but in the superior rooms
location was amazing
it was very noisy and the bathroom had a terrible smell. and the loo didn't flush easily
The staff were very helpful and pleasant. The building itself is beautiful with the added benefit of the courtyard bar. We especially loved the relaxed atmosphere of it all and the breakfast. The location was perfect for us with just a short walk from the Metro and easy walking distance to the Vatican area. Would definitely return.
Lack of room service was disappointing as was the check-in/room information ie no mention of breakfast times and location during check- in nor was there any hotel information in the room whatsoever. Unfortunately there was building works noise from 7am on Saturday. Bar prices a little steep - 10 Euro for a pot of speciality tea!
I booked Hotel Locarno for a special treat and to get the experience of staying in an old Roman hotel, however we were very disappointed to discover upon checking in that our room was NOT in the hotel but in a building adjacent to the hotel. This was never mentioned to me and was not told till after we checked in. I complained and asked to speak to the manager and was told at reception that the manager was out on maternity leave so I asked for the assistant manager and was told there was none. Asked again who was in charge or responsible for the hotel and the lady behind reception was left speechless. Later and after having gone to my room I was told that they had 2 rooms in the hotel we could take instead, we were 3 people one being a 9 year old child...I went to see the 2 rooms which were very separate in 2 different parts of the hotel building , however I went to look at them and they were match box size so we stayed in the room in the adjacent building which was clean and spacious but not in the hotel. Very disappointed as it felt we were staying in someones apartment. So if booking a room do ask were it is!
I used to regularly visit the Locarno and then after a couple of less impressive rooms and the price suddenly not offering value. I began using other hotels...this trip I returned and I am so glad I did! was wonderful to be back. Refurbished room and bathroom, perfect ambience, home from home (but with a friendly and well stocked bar!) and the location you could only dream off!
So, its still a little old and creaky - but you know what, it adds to the atmosphere. And the refurbishment is on going, so there was some areas blocked off and scaffolding out front, am sure once that is all complete, the prices shall rise, but for now - go!
Old world feeling, big rooms tall ceilings, wonderful outdoor spaces: garden terrace, roof top terrace with great views. The bar, eating area for breakfast has old world charm. The menu for bar snacks was bountiful, enough for two! The early morning fire in the fireplace for breakfast was dreamy!
Nothing! Recommending it to all of my traveling associates!
Hotel Locarno is in a great location close to historic sites, shopping and places to eat. The staff is wonderful, they are very friendly and approachable. They give very clear directions to the nearby sites. The breakfast every morning had many choices and very tasty. My favorite was the cappuccino!
Great location, friendly team, big room ( only ıf you get suits)!!
The seperate building. We had to walk to the reception.
Location, helpfulness of staff ,breakfast ,log fire ,out side area ,wonderful old fashioned elevator ,.the nibbles that went with drinks arranged a taxi to the airport
Dinning room poor lighting .
Location, garden courtyard very nice - good breakfast
Hotel overall felt unloved and a little aged. Bedrooms dark, bathroom felt in need of refurbishment. Roof terrace had no clear service and had dirty tables. Charged 10 euros for a bottle of beer at the bar! Astronomical price
I liked the flavor of the old worn at one time a grand hotel. It had a lot of character. Great terrace for breakfast and drinks. Very nice staff.
My single room was so tiny...and quite worn out...Bathroom was updated, but a tiny box of a shower.
The breakfast table was sumptuous! The staff was very helpful and understanding. The hotel is within walking distance of many of the sights of Rome.
The music in the bar in the evening was overwhelmingly loud! We would have liked to enjoy a night-cap in the roof garden, but the loudness of the music prevented that. Same in the bar.
Character and quality of the hotel, great location, staff efficient and welcoming
Would have liked tea & coffee making facitlities in the room, but only a very minor issue
This is our third return trip to Rome and the Hotel Locarno. Every time we are treated to first class service. We have always been treated like we are renting the best room in the hotel even though we are budget minded travelers. The hotel has a variety of rooms at varying prices and the junior suite is an excellent choice if you want a little more room to spread out. There is an older part of the hotel (where we stay) that is charming, as well as a more modern ( and higher priced) area. The complementary breakfast is fantastic, very Italiano, which we love! And the best: it is in the Piazza del Popolo so you are within walking distance to everything Roma. Vatican City is just across a bridge, the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Roma Capitale, Coliseum, etc are all an easy walk. They even arrange for your private car transfer from the airport at a reasonable 50 Euro. And the bar is hopping at night with wonderful complementary appetizers with your cocktail. Wi-fi works great too!
Entrance with art nouveau furnishings. Large room with antique furniture. A sense of old, well maintained, grandeur.
Very old lift with folding metal door, it suits the ambiance but not very convenient. Room not ready on our arrival until after 3.30.
Stylish and chic Nice comfortable room and bed Welcoming staff
Only issues were the roof terrace never seemed to be open and the wifi was a bit intermittent..! Not big problems though, would definitely recommend...
Difficulty with door lock
Location, service, roof terrace, breakfast. Everything was perfect.
Quiet area. Rooms are clean and nicely decorated with antiques. Bed was comfortable. Roof top deck was excellent for an evening drink before going out to dinner. I would come back but would ask for a room with bigger and more nice shower.
The shower was not at standard. (remodeled but very poorly done) cold and hot couldn't be adjusted easily, not at all. But water temp. that came out was ok. The shower door almost fell down. Our room was on 2nd floor.
Charming historic hotel in a wonderful location. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
Location Roof Terrace Bar Good Breakfast Friendly, helpful staff
Wi-fi didn't reach breakfast outdoor area. Rooms dated (renovation underway)
a charming old italian boutique hotel in an excellent location to all of Rome.
They have a helpfull and friendly staff . I love the location and the courtyard .
The courtyard was under construction so they served breakfast in a dark bar area . The breakfast was only adequate . The A/C and Wifi are barely adequate.
Roof terrace bar with generous measures and tasty snacks
