Located along the Arno River, Hotel Bretagna is a historic building in central Florence, around a 5-minute walk from Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi Gallery.
Score from 1225 reviews Very good 8.4/10
Great location for all major attractions, clean room serviced daily, nice little extras e.g. toiletries and hair dryer in bathroom. Free wi-fi and friendly staff.
Bed was too firm and no mirror in bedroom.
Hotel was located in old, charming building. Single room was very spacious. Good breakfast and nice atmosphere.
Very interesting property with winding hallways -- you can tell it's a converted monastery. Not efficiently laid out, but that is the charm.
Elevator doesn't connect all the rooms on all floors (part of the monastery charm is an inefficient layout)
10 minute walk to the Duomo 5 minute walk to the Academy OK breakfast Incredibly attentive staff
A little removed from the real night life scene Kind of pricey
the view of the square, efficient a/c, well-executed decor.
Staff tried fobbing us off with a room looking onto a shaft, and when we protested offered us an unaffordable suite; eventually they did come up with a decent room. The tiny bathroom, with a shower bang up against the loo, very squashed, and like a wet room without sufficient draining so the floor was flooded. Indifferent coffee at breakfast.
Great breakfast and quiet location close to Duomo
TINY bathroom. The shower was basically a curtain around a drain ON the bathroom floor. Everything on the floor in the bathroom got wet.
We enjoyed the location of the Hotel , our spacious room which had a little balcony with a fabulous view of the Dome's rooftop and the Piazza in front. Unfortunately there is heavy construction across the street spoiling the view a bit. That of course is not the Hotel fault. But the Hotel staff in particular the regular reception person were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was lovely, the waiter seemed a bit overworked and stressed. The Hotel reception recommended the Academia Restaurant around the corner which turned out to be an excellent choice. We will return to the Hotel and recommend it to our friends.
We would have liked to be able to print our boarding passes and perhaps have a welcome bottle of water and kleenex in the room.
Its in a city centre. The rooms are big and comfortable Staff is very coperative
Internal rooms colour washroom lock was out of order
LEAVING. Had to endure stay as a)congress in town, b) school holidays & c) try to get a replacement @1730 in the evening?
Original room supplied was not as booked, replacement was a single room with delapidated furnishings and a 30 cm wide window tight into a corner (larger room converted into two small ones) As we were leaving, discovered another couple being stitched up the same way! Booking agency also hopeless
The location was excellent and found the staff helpful and friendly. Our room at the back of hotel was quiet ( think the front ones would have been noisier) The whole ambience was charming especially the breakfast room. Breakfast was very good and you didn't feel rushed at all.
We were disappointed by the size of the room. Found it smaller than expected with extremely tired decore( water marks running down the wallpaper on one side) The fan (air conditioning?) was not effective so would not stay there in the summer. Was very hot one of the nights we stayed but could not have windows open due to mosquitos. The shower was basic but adequate.
No kettle in room. Bathroom very cramped, particularly sitting at toilet.
The service was absolutely great. A bit surprising given our previous experiences in Europe. The breakfast waiters and reception staff were attentive to our every need.
The piazza were the hotel is located is dirty and currently under construction. This obviously is beyond the hotel management control but I mention it because affects the way one experiences the hotel.
Location in the most beautiful piazza in Florence, easily walkable to the sights. Beautiful 16th century building. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful.
Somewhat small room- not unusual for Europe.
Great location, near the Duomo, helpful staff, Lovely rooms Character of hotel Quiet location Decent tea!
Breakfast choice a little limited but this is minor niggle
Location and staff was great!
Problem with the red spiders on the top floor; but we were moved to a lower floor; and it was great.
The location couldn't have been better, close to the Duomo, adjacent to the Academia, and on one of the prettiest piazzas in Firenze. A historic building with real old Italy charm. A little difficult to find initially ( as are all properties in central Firenze), but then their staff took the car and parked it, and we had no difficulty navigating out of town. Good service and breakfasts.
Everything! The unique ambience, the extra comfortable beds, the spacious room, the friendly and helpful staff, the coffee at breakfast
Location was wonderful, staff was very helpful and friendly; this hotel is just delightfully charming and lovely.
The location is a bit noisy - the piazza seems to be a popular gathering place in early morning and late at night. Closing the windows helps. The bathroom was tiny and a little inconvenient, but we really loved the hotel; it was enchanting.
This hotel is wonderful. It's located in the perfect area as it seems far from hustle and bustle due to the quietness of the are but a very short walk to all you want out of Florence. It was very clean and comfortable. We stayed in room 30 and had the most beautiful view of Duomo. I recommend for a low key stay that feels extra romantic.
Beautiful location and ambiance
Hotel location and hotel decor and ambiance. Very traditional Tuscan with fabulous ceilings.
Breakfast staff could have been more helpful. Didn't seem to know the difference between cafe latte and American coffee, strange for Italians.
Marvellous historic building full of beauty, charm and interest. Extremely convenient location within sight of Duomo and adjacent to Academia and San Marco. Excellent value.
If bathrooms a bit better and decor less faded then this could be a 5 star hotel and justify 3 times the price. As it is, it is an exceptionally beautiful and good value 3 star.
Closeness to Duomo and central Florence; location in characterful historic area; large room and good bathroom facilities.
Room was in annexe about 150 metres from hotel and not interconnecting, so access to full hotel facilities, reception and bar required descending two floors and walking along street. Room had no fly screen and mosquitoes were an issue (in early May).
The quiet central situation. Personal attention.
The location was absolutely perfect. The taxi driver confirmed this when he dropped us off. The rooms were fabulously decorated, and the staff, although a bit overworked, were very helpful. Our friends were upgraded to a room with a balcony overlooking the piazza, and we had a beautiful room overlooking the gardens and roof tops.
The bathroom shower curtain was a disaster. No matter how we tried the bathroom was flooded in one corner. Not a big deal, but something hopefully easily fixed.
