We just needed a place to stay overnight and the rates here were deeply discounted. The room was well designed - nicer bed, showers, and classical decor. The breakfast was good and the receptionists were competent.

Great location, very nice and clean room with modern bathroom. Breakfast selection was enough for me, but my husband wished they had some egg dishes on the menu. We reserved a parking spot in the hotel's courtyard-definitely recommend if traveling by car, parking in Catania is very difficult.

Hotel Royal enjoys a fantastic location: just a short stroll from the Roman amphitheater and the Duomo Cathedral. The roof terrace offers great views of central Via Crociferi.

Hotel very centrally located near the Duomo and Via Etnea with several restaurants in the vicinity. Air conditioning very effective in the bedrooms but absent in the Lobby and Reception. Staff friendly and helpful. Some bedrooms had ornate ceilings.
Breakfast was adequate. Surrounding area noisy at night from Wednesday through to the weekend. Unreliable lady at Reception did not book airport taxi despite 7 hours advance notice. Replacement taxi took 20 minutes and was not appropriate for 5 people but had to use it. Elevator very small (2 persons)
Old style rooms, high ceilings and very comfortable big beds. Clean and very courteous staff. Breakfast is continental, with great coffee - We loved having breakfast on the roof terrace. I would definitely stay here again.
Parking is a big problem in Catania. Finding a spot to park is very difficult, and most of the cars have bumps and scrapes on them. The hotel offer very secure limited parking at 10 Euros per day - but after my first night of anxiety for the hire car, and having being asked to pay protection money - (local guys ask for a euro or two to watch your car!) - I paid this purely for peace of mind.
Excellent hotel. In the city center, very comfortable for sightseeing in Catania. Good breakfast, big rooms.
The location is good, excellent and I got good value for my money. Breakfast was also good.
In the advertisement you got the impression that every room has exciting paintings etc. My hotelroom was a very basi, good standardroom without anything special. It was a disappointment aswell as the restaurang they recommended. The food was excellent but the waiter did not like that I only ordered seafood and a glas of wine. He wanted me eating more and showed his disappointment when I told him that the food was excellet. Street food was the name. That is not professional and correct way to treat customers. I think I had to pay some extra too, because of that. Not a nice feeling and I will never visit them again though their food was exciting and very good, just something I would like to eat more often. Pitty!
The central location
I felt the property was misrepresented. The room was certainly not 3 star, there were no frescoes to be seen and the breakfast was poor. I don't think it was value for money
Location was good, easy walk to main square. Fortunately we got a free car park immediately outside the hotel. Staff on arrival were pleasant. Our room was spacious and had lovely painted ceilings. We were given a very good recommendation for dinner nearby.
Entry to the hotel is a bit complicated, as reception is on the 4th floor, and there is a VERY small, old lift to get there. Our first night turned into a nightmare, as there was a big party on the street, it sounded like it was in our room! We were woken at 11.30, complained then, and more forcefully at 1.30 when we were still awake. Then the man on reception was very helpful and moved us to a quieter room. Avoid Room 112 on a Sunday night!
Staff excellent, helpful and nothing was to much trouble and speaking perfect English. Fabulous large sumptuous rooms tastefully furnished and decorated. Just loved it!!!
breakfast a little bit poor, no egg generally, to come to the room was complicate, 4th floor and again with another lift to the 3rd floor
the location was great as it was very close to the main piazza
it was on the 4th floor
nothing >> there was little to really like given the hyped photo's advertising a palacial setting that in no way existed.
the hyped palacial photo's that in reality gave way to a tired just about adequate hotel .... charging more money per night than the quite wonderful il principe, a nearby hotel that has all that the manganelli advertised - but could in no way deliver
Location & building itself, friendly reception
Breakfast area tiny and selection limited and refilled with a delay, i.e. you might find yourself waiting if the refill will happen at all
Its quite easy to be put off by the surroundings as you arrive but its totally wrong to blame the hotel for the condition of this part of the town. In this part of italy, people look after the inside of their properties but have little respect for the outsides and even less for other people's property. Ignore the grafitti in the streets and enjoy the interior of the hotel. Its part of the 4th floor and is just part of what was once a palace. Its nicely decorated and very comfortable, with very helpful staff. Decent sized rooms (not too common in city hotels in italy), and a smart comfortable lounge. The view from the windows is not exactly exciting but then few people are going to want to stay long in Catania, A decent continental breakfast, not probably suitable for those who like large hotels with 10 yards of buffet for breakfast, but adequate for those who want a bit of Italian style. As the capital of Sicily, Catania is more commercial and less touristy than other towns so an overnight stay is enough for most people, I would think. The Manganelli is close to what there is to view and fits the bill for an overnighter very well.
The staff, The Location, the quiet and cleanliness of the rooms.
Great hotel in the middle of Catania. Close to everything.

The Ornate decor, painted ceiling of the Suite. The Location.
Small reception area and breakfast area. Shower needing renewing.
This is exactly the kind of hotel I like, nice and classical, and very practical at the same time with very kind and helpful staff. We had a very nice room with painted ceiling for 3. Exellent location, nice shopping, sight seeing, restaurants and bars. Good parking in beautiful court. I would recommend it to anyone who feels at home in a classical environment. Loved it!
De prijs van hotels in die regio is over het algemeen lager. Probeer ook eens direct het hotel te bellen in plaats van via een agent.
location, staff, breakfast, interesting interior
Exterior, tired decor
Friendly, helpful staff. Good sized room. Breakfast good.
Bathroom needs redecoration, shower broken.
Huge room, very friendly and helpful stuff perfect location - enjoyed a lot
Perfect location, friendly staff that is pleased to help you, nice rooms in nice historical building with charming elevator.
that i finally found my ideal hotel right in the centre of catania
nothing
Location to everything was within walking distance. Which we needed because my mother has a bad hip and can't walk long distances. We have a car park access which was great as we had lots of luggage. Staff were very friendly and the check in process was very quick.
It's not a big negative, but the lift was very small, so we had to make many trips with our luggage.
