The oldest building, dating back to 1300, was carefully restored and refurnished in 2002. The small, simple rooms in the older building are all decorated in a traditional Tuscan style with earthen floors and Tuscan tile-covered roofs.
All rooms have a private bathrooms with shower, and some also have a kitchenette, lounge area and bike storage area.
The province of Grosseto, the largest in the region, lies in the South of Tuscany. Its inhabitants call their territory Maremma, a term derived from the Spanish word Marismas, which means marshes. After the marshes were reclaimed, the land could be exploited, and economic development began.
The inland consists of wood-covered hills that are a real paradise for bikers, excursionists, and nature lovers in general; the shore features miles of beaches and vast pine woods that offer cool shade during the hot summer months. Indeed, each season has its own beauty and attractions. In the spring, for example, you can admire green fields dotted with poppies, that stretch as far as eye can see, or vast sunflower fields. In the autumn, you can enjoy the wide palette of colours that come before winter sets in.
Spend a day exploring the historical centre, which is divided into two parts: the Città Vecchia (old city), built in the Romanic style, and the Città Nuova (new city), built in the Gothic style. All the streets follow a curved line towards the peculiarly star-shaped Piazza Garibaldi (Garibaldi Square), which is the heart of the Città Vecchia.
Città Nuova and Città Vecchia are connected through the archway Porta alle Silici, which joins Via Moncini to Piazza Matteotti. In the middle of the Piazza rises the Torre del Candeliere (tower of the Candeliere), a sturdy military fortress built by the people of Massa Marittima in the year 1228.
You can also enjoy a sunny afternoon on the beaches of Puntala, Castiglione della Pescaia, Torre Mozza, or Carbonifera, or you can top your trek or bike tour with a refreshing swim in the gorgeous bay of Cala Violina.
Visits to Siena, with its seashell-shaped Piazza and the Cathedral of S.Maria Assunta, or to Florence, are also a must.
