눇We stayed a week in the Masseria late July. We came from Vieste where we spent another week or more at the beach and again, I have to say that country-side locations like this one are a much better choice in Italy than the beaches, which tend to be overcrowded and very commercial.
About Maseria Valente itself, I can hardly find something bad to say. It is ideally located near Ostuni, so you could alternate days by the pool (very nice and clean by the way), with trips to the "nearby" attractions like Alberobello/ Locorotondo, Castellana Graves, Zoosafari in Fasano (great for kids) and the beaches in the southern-most tip of Puglia. By the way, if you hear or read phrases like "Maldives of Italy" or "Caraibi of Puglia", don't believe it. Yes some waters are greenish and the beaches tend to be long, but you still feel like sardines in a can, and that you are sharing it with half of Italy's population :).
Back to the Masseria now. The location is very well designed and maintained, clean and well organized. The staff is young, Italian (which is a plus I have to say) and very willing to help. English is not their strongest point, but with the little I could grasp of Italian from previous vacations and the English they knew, we got by decently. The guy at the reception especially spoke relatively well.
The breakfast was ok and quite varied by Italian standards. Don't expect much in this respect however, remember where you are. Breakfast is simply not something important for Italians :)
On the other hand, they have a very good and cozy restaurant with excellent food and service. We used it a number of times, since we were lazy and did not want to go to a nearby city /village to eat out. Besides, the wine in Puglia is absolutely excellent, and if both me and my wife wanted to have some for dinner, driving back might have been a problem.
