눉My room was barely big enough to walk around the bed, although maybe this is not unusual for Europe. However, hotels where I stayed in Rome and Florence were upscale in comparison. The hotel in Florence (Hotel Ariel) was also less expensive by $50 Canadian per night.
At Messner, I paid over $200 Canadian/night and the room definitely needs some TLC! But maybe this is not expensive for Venice? I didn't shop around because a friend who stayed there 8-9 years ago recommended it.
This room was in a separate annex down the street from the main hotel. It was more like a hostel than a hotel. Across from my room was a shared bathroom that seemed to be in use by some high school aged girls in the lower level of the annex. They ran around the halls talking and laughing and banging in the late evening and early morning. With paper-thin walls, this was not very restful.
Although the room was very small, it was clean with a tiny private bathroom. But it had only one very small window, high up near the ceiling in one corner. The blind outside it was broken, with lots of vines growing over it, so no daylight could get in. I requested that they fix it. Someone came a day later, but he left it like that. Perhaps it was beyond repair and the only course of action would have been to remove it, which I think would have been just fine since there was also a curtain.
In the tiny shower, the rod supporting the shower head was broken. When I tried to adjust the height of the shower head, the entire rod slipped out of the fixture, and I couldn't get it back together.
The lock box was missing the lock assembly. I asked for it at the desk and they gave me a key. I explained I needed the assembly, but they seemed not to understand . I thought maybe the assembly was somewhere in the room, but it was not. He didn't seem surprised when I brought the key back later. He said guests take the lock assemblies sometimes.
눇Clean, safe, convenient, helpful staff, great location, with a good restaurant offering a 30% discount for hotel guests and gluten free options.
Located across the 3rd bridge at the Salute Vaporetto stop. Very near to San Marco square, Guggenheim, Santa Maria Della Salute, water bus to/from the airport, etc.
