Hotel Metropole

Magnificently situated on the lagoon and close to St Mark's Square, there is a superb restaurant, with a sense of style. Food throughout the hotel was excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful... The place grew on us during the stay, it has an almost homely feel to it. Rooms were spacious and decorated in a period style, that you either respond to or don't.

The price was fair, but the decor of the hotel was looking decidedly dated and worn... carpets looked faded and there was a considerable amount of unintended sound transfer between floors caused by the wooden floorings. Whether a handless clock and a chipped wrting desk count as antiques is a matter of taste, in the bedrooms; the exhibits in the public rooms were interesting. Rather dark and dingy at times, but this was in keeping with the theme, the hotel was good... my main concern was over the ratings was this really a 5 star comfort? wifi onnections were uncertain apart from the ground floor, lifts were small and had a very strange smell to them...all of that said... we had a wonderful time there and strangely would go back

Interesting, a little quirky, but very venetian and very nice...Lots of touches that a women would appreciate - full length mirrors, good size and selection of cosmetics, good bathroom lighting

Excellent service in a really interesting if slightly offbeat hotel. Staff were all helpfull. Very interesting displays of memorabilia throughout the hotel. Breakfast in the garden was supberb

Bathroom was a bit small but had everything you need, good shower over bath.

very friendly staff, and thoughtful, and offered a complimentary bottle of champange to us ( on honeymoon). twice daily housekeeping was excellent. breakfast was fantastic

The hotel was great, we had a junior suite, a lovely room, breakfast was very good, the staff was very friendly and supportive and the dinner at the restaurant was excellent!!!!

The room for a family was good when you had the possibility to stay in the same room with the kids. The decoration and atmosphere of the hotel is very venetian, the location is excellent and the breakfast in the garden lovely.

In this kind of a quite luxurious hotel, the wireless internet connections should be in the rooms, too, not only in the lobby. The high prices were the weak point.

Little bit run down, strange antiques everywhere, too expensive minibar, no mineralwater offered free of charge in the room, no waterboiler in the room.
