Drain block, feet soaked when taking bath. Vomiting! Stuffy and no temperature control heating system. Sleep in sweat! Too red! All 6 sides of the room are red. Horrible! No kettle, coffee, water....in minbar provided. All charged! No toiletries provided Pillow too hard. Can't sleep well. Change from triple to double with additional bed no refund because the double room has a lighter colour ceiling even the walls and carpet are still red. We are now recovering in Florence. This hotel is just excellent. Take Metropole out of your list. Otherwise, you have got shame! Authentic comments

Beautiful decor, excellent attention to detail. Like being transported back in time. Amazing breakfast, great lounge area and wonderful view. Unique atmosphere, wonderful use of scents and spices and eclectic mix of oriental and european decor. Vaporetto stop at the front of the hotel.

Dinner at the bar failed every expectation. Over priced and under delivered - would not eat at the bar again.

Sumptuous decor, attentive and courteous staff, beautiful lounge and bar with middle eastern influence and reminder of Venice's spice route history. Also they very kindly provided a bottle of Prosecco as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary.

Very Disappointing meal - we didn't think this was representative of a Michelin- starred restaurant at all. £££££ and it was awful. We were delighted with the do Leone restaurant at the Londra Palace nearby - same £££££ but superb so we ate there every day for lunch and dinner instead! Possibly new chef but the Michelin rating should be reviewed. The maitre d' didn't even apologise.

This was my first trip to Venice and I was extremely lucky to have booked this hotel. The rooms were excellent, staff extremely helpful, fabulous location just a few minutes walk from St Marks square, very easy to reach from Plazza Roma by water taxi and if you want, taxi from their own door onto the canals!!! A level of service way beyond the price I paid for this break! I will be returning next year and cannot recommend them enough!!! To be honest, I slept like a baby for the first 2 days I was there which was so welcome but also so unusual!!! I would truly recommend this hotel to stay at. Des Campbell

Suffice to say five star hotels don't come cheap but if you can afford it or looking for a special treat give it a go. I would say that breakfast at €30 per person is excessive and clearer pricing at the bar, lounge and mini bar should be addressed. Wi-fi (free) reception in our suite was non existent and our bed mattress needed turning as it felt like sleeping on a hill!

Excellent hotel, superb location would recommend unreservedly. Stayed in junior suite and up there with best rooms we have ever stayed in.

No extractor fan in the toilet; No feather/down pillow - they were quite hard!

Quiet, understated but very effective service - nothing was too much trouble. Excellent help to find our way around the City. Free boat to Murano was an unexpected surprise. Location was excellent.

Restaurant Met pricing seemed very high. Reception and Lounge were quite gloomy - very comfortable but lighting was poor.

Our suite faced the lagoon in the front and a canal on the side, which was spectacular. The associates were friendly and always happy. We would especially like to mention Simona, and Betty who were in the breakfast buffet each morning and the receptionist at the desk who was always helpful. Lovely and central location.

The decor and ambience

Friendly staff on reception and in restaurants. Quiet location (our room overlooked the garden). Extremely convenient for the water buses.

Disappointed that in the very traditional lounge and restaurant (excellent food), there was moronic disco-type muzak on a constant loop. We were told it could not be turned off. It was even on outside the lift on our floor.

The location was wonderful. The bar was very nice and the bar staff was professional. The drinks were brought with a small plate of complimentary appetizers. Interesting collections of corkscrews, ladies beaded purses, & crucifixes, were displayed in glass cases. The lobby area was comfortable with overstuffed chairs but rather dark if you want to read.

We were told that all beds were queen sized. Our room had two beds pushed together with a crack in the center which was their idea of a queen bed. The mattress needs to be replaced as it was soft in the center. We paid approximately $550 per night for a small room, and it did not include anything. Breakfast was an additional €28 per person per day. Office staff is top-heavy with chiefs who are unable to make a decision without delays in checking with their supervisors. An evening desk clerk was argumentative while explaining which water taxi with the best location to pick up for the airport, even though the hotel had sent an email with two sites for pick up that we could use for the hotel.
