This was clearly a good hotel, though it gave the impression of being partially closed for the August break. It has plenty of parking ,excellent rooms and a fabulous pool area. The pictures suggested a thriving restaurant. However in four days there we only saw 3 occupied tables at the restaurant, which was never open in the evenings. The many lights around the beautiful pool remained turned off throughout. The hotel is next door to the enormous Florio Marsala winery. A must see visit and tasting. Towards the town on the right of the hotel is a sublime little bar and food outlet, just before IL Bucanieri. The various typically Sicilian Panini, cakes and savoury dishes are all superb and great value for money. Marsala is an untidy city (nearby Mazara is much better looked after). The Hotel is a good 30 mins walk from the main town through quite a seedy dockside area. At least half the rooms overlook a railway line and busy road. Florio ought to make more of it's links with the famous Targa Florio car race. The Hotel probably charges a bit more than it is really worth.

Overall it was a pleasant stay. Maybe the room was a bit old and tasteless. The hotel facade was not reflecting the hotel standard. When we saw the hotel sign, it seemed more as a motel. But once you entered, we were relieved. I can rate it as a 4 star.

Very elegant, beautiful view of the coast and close to the center. Very nice dining room and breakfast. The dining room staff was very attentive. We choose the hotel for being 5 stars and a good price, as we usually do. However, the hotel had the look, position of a 5 star hotel, the service was at best a 3 star. The reception staff was very nice and gave us good suggestion for dining, however it became defensive when we complaint about the quality of the room and the service of the cleaning staff. She said that we have that type of room because the special price that we paid. I never expected that answer. I told her that Booking.com lists your hotel as 5 star and it does not indicate that the price that you pay gives you less service. I have used 5 stars hotel at a good price many times before and always received a 5 star service. The room was comfortable, but the bathroom lacked the amenities of a 5 star hotel. There were 2 small bar soaps, one small bottle of body wash, and one plastic cup, 1/2 roll of toilette paper - there was two of us. One towel bar and not enough to hang the other towels. Later at night we came back from dinner and found the bed done, but still no cups replacement and no more toilette paper. The next morning I went down to the reception to get my own toilette paper. The dirty wine glasses and a water glass that I took from breakfast were still there and the waist basket were still full after the room was cleaned that day. When I mentioned it to the receptionist, she defended herself saying that that part gets done later. It was 5:00 P.M. I don't think so. Right after someone came with more plastic cups. I could go on, but I believe you got the picture.

Spacious and clean. Good location if you don't have a car but a bit far from the center of old Marsala if you had to walk. Nice restaurant just around the corner and very close to the Fiori Marsala cellars

I loved the old building and the decor of the hotel, the location by the sea and the convenience of the car park. The gardens and pool area were lovely and well maintained. The room was clean and comfortable, although could have done with mirrors or pictures on the wall. We only had breakfast in the dining room which was pleasant and the service was good. The reception staff were helpful on advising where to go and the local sights.

Comfortable beds, lovely spacious public areas, beautiful (though unheated) pool, good breakfast, helpful reception staff To be the five star hotel it claims to be there are a lot of details that need sharpening up: topping up juice & empty plates during breakfast, double glazing to muffle the noise of the railway & main road the standard rooms look out over, high quality toiletries, poolside drink service, etc, etc. The location, with a walk along a main road with no pavements to get into town, is also not what one would expect for a luxury hotel. The lack of these services weren't a problem, and we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay, but with just a few changes in management approach it could be so much closer to what it claims to be.

Nice hotel near the marina, a good 15 minutes walk in to town. Very nice restaurant a few hundred yards away called the Bucaneer. Staff were all very pleasant. A good selection of cakes for breakfast and if you ask they will make you boiled or scrambled eggs. Very nice terrace on the 2nd floor which is a sun trap from which you can watch teh setting sun. We had a nice time and other than dinner we had no real complaints, we were just out of season so maybe the chef was still in training! Unfortunately it is not a 5* hotel more a low 4* at best. Do not have dinner at the hotel we did one night and it was like something out of Faulty Towers. The main course was 'escalope' although we were not sure what of!! The standard of food reminded us of school. Marsala is not a 'happening' place and if you're staying more than a few days better get a car - driving is an experience. I'm sure there are some rules of driving but we couldn't work out what they were, it's pretty much a game of chicken I think.

The welcome I got from the guy on reception. I arrived after midnight and he just took my bag and led me to my room and said we can do ther paper work in the morning. It's location - too far from anything. I enquired at reception about an excursion advertised on the front desk and got a flat negative response with no offer of any further information on other excursions available. Room (118) overlooked a railway line and a busy road. I asked reception if I could move rooms as it was too noisy and air con did not work - answer no. They asked me if window closed properly as this affects working of air con. No offer to come and have a look with me. I went up, saw window was not shut properly, shut it, air con worked and window had double glazing - so no noise. Help would have been good. Breakfast was terrible-looked more like a dessert bar. I only cried three times. No coffee lounge, no entertainment/activities. Boring.

The hotel was just lovely with an enchanting garden. The staff was extremely helpful and spoke English to us travel weary tourists. When I booked I did not realize it was a 5 star hotel since we were just touring Italy and Sicily and only wanted pleasant accommodations. It was an absolute pleasure to stay in this perfect hotel.

This place was a lovely surprise experience for my wife and I. From the ease of parking to the look of the place to the friendly staff and clean, elegant surroundings. It was great to come back from a day's outing to such a dignified place with service surpassing our expectations. We ate at the nearby I Bucanieri restaurant which is connected to the Hotel and we ended up returning 3 times - wonderful fresh seafood and a charcoal grill that turned out as good a bistecca fiorentina as anywhere I've had. All of this at better than expected pricing so I cannot recommend this place highly enough. .

“This was Sicilian hospitality at its very best. We missed the turn off for the hotel due to lack of good maps (our fault), the owners drove out to find us and took us back to the accommodation. We had a flat tyre on our rental car and the owner took it out at 10pm at night to pump it up for us. We opted for the breakfast €5 per person and it was lovely, fresh strawberries, fruit juice, various little biscut type snacks, all home made and served outside on our patio! The owners couldn't have been nicer, very friendly and welcoming. Lovely surroundings would have liked to stay longer. Thanks!” Stephanie, London |
