Absolute fantastic views of the Amalfi coast from the hotel's terrace whilst eating breakfast and dinner. The smell of the lemon and grapefruit trees under the Monks Walk leading to the infinity pool and the wonderful simple food of Italy eaten there - exquisite. The staff catered for our every need with genuine care and attention. The rooms are cooling, sophisticated and totally contemporary with every luxury, the Monk's having inhabited them first since the year 1212. A truly spiritual experience.
Having to leave!
The location is great, we had a large room with large terrace overlooking the marina and part of Amalfi town (beautiful sunrises!). It's a 15 minute walk to town and then 15 minutes to Atrani. The restaurant is fine too, mostly simple dishes but with a little creative twist to make them very special. Good breakfast buffet. Staff very helpful all around, good waiting staff, great help at reception when booking boat trip etc.
We knew the room price was steep but we got a lot for our money, yet I would still say it's overpriced. Small things like the terrace has a concrete wall rather than a metal fence so you can't see down to the harbour unless you stand up.
Staff Rooms Views
Breakfast was lovely, views amazing. Great infinity pool.
Charges for everything even ironing. Rooms are basic with no refreshments other than a very pricey minibar.
One word: PERFECT.
The room , meals and hotel staff were just fantastic. The view from the swimming pools was unbelievable .
Gorgeous location and extremely helpful and courteous staff.
There is nothing to dislike
The staff at the GH Convento Di Amalfi really made our stay special. The room was an adequate size for our 2 night stay, the room was clean and the bed was comfy.
Only grumble was that the room felt a little battered and bruised, the lamp had a large chip in it and the draws in the dressing room had an even larger chunk missing. A little TLC and the stay would have been perfect!
The staff was perfect. The views impeccable.
The rooms were a little small and the mattress was a bit hard. The pool Closes too early perhaps 7pm might work better
Everything ! Staff are amazing, food stunning, rooms Devine with breathtaking views, pool area more than you could imagine and the old church and history of the hotel mind blowing! Try their lemon homemade jam -amazing! Thank you for a wonderful 10th year wedding anniversary!
No improvements possible!
Friendly staff, incredible views, beautiful pool.
Got married while we stayed, the staff were very kind and offered me a separate room to get ready in on the morning of our wedding. Very friendly. The hotel is beautiful. A true 5star hotel .
No wifi at pool, gym is very small
Staff excellent, room large and nicely appointed in a minimalist style, location was beautiful. Breakfast was nice, with great variety of pastries. Pool food was very nice. Hotel restaurant looked great but we didn't eat there.
Spa was very average, massage was poor and facilities were not as nice as you would expect for the cost. Charged £25 for a steam room!!
0 star hotel with a 5 star plus cost!! If you like HARD beds, change of bed linen every other day,no refill of toilet tissue, small prison style bedrooms, poor air-con,very difficult and sometimes dangerous to access the hotel then this could be the place for you!!!! I've stayed in many hotels around Europe & this rates number 1 for extremely poor value for money. If I'd paid €100 per night that would have been okay, however over €500 per night is just rip-off. Also, just to add to my misery, my new car was damaged (by them) in their so called safe parking facility and the Hotel manager simply excused herself by explaining that this is normal in Almalfi and that I should claim it on my insurance, no apologies whatsoever!!! Not pleased :-(
Stunning! A wonderful Hotel. Attentive staff. Beautiful room with 2 french doors opening onto a balcony with stunning views ,could not be faulted. Cant wait to go back.
Breathtaking view Enjoyed a very nice room with a terrasse The panoramic pool is a must
restaurant was good but not as amazing as expected
Fantastic location, pool and restaurant and a wonderful friendly manager and staff.
Amazing view and most of the things
Electricity stops at night for a few times and the wifi was a bit dogy
Excellent location with good views from the dining terrace Professional and friendly staff
Poor wardrobe space Expensive
The view and the pool
Only one restaurant in the hotel
Everything you expert from an excellent hotel. Very well situated within walking distance from the town and the pier from which boats leave for Capri. Very nice facilities and nice spacious room. We got a corner room with windows opening up to the sea from both sides. We had dinner in the restaurant of Villa Cimbrone one evening but the 9-course Gran Degustazione in this hotel won the 'contest' hands down ! Very nice breakfast on the lovely terrace with sea view. Need we say more...
One could not shower without flooding the room.
Location, service, view
Limited facilities Wifi
Building is amazing, pool fab, staff excelent, breakfast choice very good
The steps!! Lol! Parking too expensive, dinner menu was only a fine dining option so not appropriate for everyone.
I give the designer who was tasked with converting this 12th century Covent into a modern day hotel an "A". The finishes were modern and functional yet they incorporated the essence and history of the original structure. The staff, with the exception of one, were all highly attentive and accommodating. They all spoke English fairly well and made an effort to welcome my wife and I with our 1 year old daughter. The views from the room and basically everywhere you end up in the complex are unbelievable. It's set way up high on a cliff and there are natural flowers springing out from every crevice in addition to those maintained by the hotel. The pool was an infinity style, also with spectacular views. One attribute we took notice of is the placement of the pool. Most beaches in the amalfi coast lose the sun due to the height of the cliffs around 2-3pm so when planning your day, you are advised to hit the beach in the morning. This leaves the pool the natural choice for the afternoon. The convento's pool is situated to receive sun until 6pm so you can actually get a full day's worth if you so desire. Other bright spots were the breakfast and the convenience of the location, which in our opinion was the perfect place to stay if you're looking to do the entire amalfi coast, save for the parking situation. Amalfi has a nice little down town in walking distance full of shops and restaurants. If you hop in the car and head in one direction up the coast you can experience Ravello, Minori and Maiori. If you head the other direction you will get to Positano, Sorrento and Capri by boat.
So In my review of the staff I mentioned that they were all fantastic with the exception of one. There was a middle aged woman with shoulder length frosted hair. She appeared to be the facilities manager as the bell staff and maintenance personnel were taking direction from her. We did not get her name but based upon her passive aggressive behavior and the fact this was Italy, we called her Aggressiva. Aggressiva was an expert at fake smiles. We had our first run in with her when she banged on our door because water which had overflowed from our shower ran under it into the hallway. The shower had a partial glass enclosure which was broken causing the water from the shower to drain onto the bathroom floor. It was actually such an efficient way to flood the bathroom I think less water would have made it onto the floor with no enclosure. Well Aggressiva wanted answers when we opened the door so being a regional maintenance director for a national multifamily Apartment company, I had diagnosed the problem and was ready to show her how the silicone had failed and the glass had fallen out of place. However she was more intent on blaming us rather than her maintenance staff's inability to maintain the facility. We had a few other encounters with her in the hallway where she would pretend she didn't hear our "bon giornos" and keep walking. We also arrived at the gym one morning to find it had not been opened for the day as per the schedule. We saw her passing by and asked about this, to which she begrudgingly went and got the key, making it well known that this request was an imposition. Other cons were the tiny poorly laid out bathrooms and the parking/loading/unloading situation. The entrance is situated right on the main road. There is a constant flow of mopeds and tour buses whizzing by alarmingly close to the front door. There is a tiny 5 car parking space directly across the road.
