Catania itself is quite dirty and unpleasant in most districts, however there's still some interesting parts. The main street is beautiful and has amazing ancient churches. There are quite many shops and places to eat, the food is great. Prices for food are pretty low. It's also a good spot to commute to other cities in Sicilia.

Catania, located on the eastern coast of Sicily, is a city...
Catania, located on the eastern coast of Sicily, is a city that seamlessly blends ancient history with modern life. Its Baroque architecture, including the iconic Cathedral of Saint Agatha, stands as a testament to its rich past. The bustling fish market, La Pescheria, offers a glimpse into local life and culinary traditions. Mount Etna, Europe's tallest active volcano, looms in the distance, adding both beauty and a hint of danger to the cityscape. Catania's lively atmosphere, with its vibrant street markets, lively piazzas, and welcoming locals, makes it a must-visit destination in Sicily. However, the city also grapples with issues such as urban decay and occasional volcanic activity. Overall, Catania enchants visitors with its unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty, making it a captivating destination for travelers.

Catania had a great collection of historic treasures within walking distance of the city centre with a large choice of eating facilities to rest while you walk. We were there for one week at the end of February and found and excellent range of excursions to surrounding areas including Mount Etna. Visit the fish market in the morning which, in the evening, transforms into a large street food venue with loads of atmosphere. In February, naturally, there were a large number of places that were closed but we were able to move easily and dine without worry of booking.

I should say that this city only has two main roads worth visiting. All the buildings outside these two roads are in horrible condition. It is incredibly dirty, and you may even step into dog crap everywhere in the city outside those two main central roads. Also it was a bit scary to walk around the city in the evening due to catcalling.

Lovely city, friendly & easy to walk around.
Lovely city, friendly & easy to walk around. Interesting architecture. Great food and not too expensive. For Italy, it was even relatively easy to find a car park. View of Mount Etna is great too
If you are looking for an overnight stay close to Catania airport, this hotel is for you! But ask for instructions on how to get there as you won't think about it being adjacent to the rental car offices. And you can save one day's rental with an overnight at the Magnolia. The rooms were minimalistic but very clean and the bathroom well appointed with a contemporary design. The bed was very comfortable as were the pillows. And the service was very customer-centric, focused on you - to ensure a good stay/experience.
The property is well located in the center of Catania.
Access is easy and safe via a well-lit street. However, it should be borne in mind that the quarter of streets on the northern side is saturated with immigrants.
The property is well equipped and the stay is hassle-free.
Catania is a very interesting place in Sicily. Many historical monuments and interesting natural surroundings (especially Mount Etna). The history of Catania is rich.
Most importantly, I found the staff really friendly and ready to go the extra mile to help you out. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the breakfast is amazing, with a large variety of options, including cannoli, Sicilian granita, and berry and apricot pies. Although it is quite far away from the airport and the centre of Catania, there is a bus stop right outside the hotel with routes to the centre.
Walked to the beach across the road..the city of Catania needs to do a better job at keeping the beaches clean from trash, I was certainly disappointed in the trash at the beach and the lack of upkeep of those beautiful beaches, an opportunity that is being missed for Catania......but the site was beautiful and close to the airport and jumping off spot for our stay in Sicily and travels throughout Sicily.
Even though the area is residential, the location is great, as you are at a short walking distance away from Catania's sights, which is great. During our stay, we were able to comfortably walk to places, and were close to the train station, which is great, even for traveling to the airport. Also, the staff were very kind and accommodating, and my friend found the boutique element of the hotel charming.
The hotel itself is great - nice room, helpful staff, good food in the restaurant, nice gardens and pool. The area around the hotel is not very appealing. But we chose it because we had an early flight the next day, it's very convenient for the airport. We were also able to get a bus into Catania from just outside the hotel. This was a better option for the evening than staying in the local area.
Everything was perfect! The rooms were big, the kitchen well-stocked, and the breakfast vouchers at a nearby bar made the trip even better. The owner Francesco went above and beyond to make our stay in Catania memorable. He gave excellent recommendations for restaurants in Catania and also for the rest of the towns in our Sicily tour.
The apartment is right in the center of the old town.
I transitioned from train to airport in about 14 hours. The hotel was a good place for a quick stay but not recommend for multiple overnight since movement of people make it noisy and bothersome. At least they didn’t have locals staying at place. Because they get travelers on vacation I feel it made it safer. There are elements on the fringes in Catania that I don’t want to meet.
Good location, by Via Etna. Simple, clean tidy room with good hot shower.
Breakfast fine, hosts in morning were nice and helpful.
Its a cheap hotel but dont let this put you off. It is clean and tidy.
Catania is rough around the edges. The walk to the railway station is through rebuilt postwar bomb sites.
The main street is beautiful, good architecture, views of Etna.
Very good location, close to the ALIBUS bus that comes from Catania airport, about 15-20 minutes from Piazza Duomo and Piazza Borsellino station, from where you can take buses to other destinations.
I liked the big, tall room, large bathroom, equipped with dryer.
The hotel garden is full of vegetation.
Very close by, there is a great Botanical Garden, free entrance.
We liked the close proximity to Catania airport as we had an early morning flight. Our room was a good size, clean, fresh and still like new. There was a very good pizzeria (Simpsons) close by, would recommend the rucola, best pizza I have had on my 12 day stay in Sicily. There is also a good bar around the corner for coffees, drinks and sweet & savouries food.
Perfect location, 3 mins walk to fish market with all restaurants and drinks and 10 mins by bus to the airport!
V.good apartment with air-conditioning in both rooms and spacious bathroom (as we were 4 people). Our host provided us with all the info we wanted to go around Sicily plus extra time in check out even though we asked them in such short notice!
Great location. we stay twice during our tour of Sicily. the first stay we had corner with 2 balconies, gorgeous view of the cathedral.
catania had an amazing fish market and produce and it’s around the corner from the hotel.
you can’t help but buy and taste some of the seafood and fruit.
staff were great too
The hotel is located right on the main street of Catania, making it easy to get to everywhere. The room was clean and well-equipped. The lady at the reception was very friendly and patiently answered all our questions. Thanks to her help in calling a taxi, we made it to the airport on time
Hosts are very nice. Pick up us at the train station and send us to the airport. Provide many useful information about the attractions, restaurants, supermarkets… snacks and cafes are very good, even give us a bottle of Sicily rede wine. The property location is excellent.
Efficient comfortable well fitted hotel with shuttle to nearby Catania airport. Pool, bar and good restaurant available. Relaxing. Meticulous reception. Shuttle picked up and dropped off. Super view of smoking Etna.
A very spacious apartment, great shower. Very helpful and kind host, very welcoming. We used it to be nearer the airport for our final night in Sicily. By car it was suitable. A very reasonable price.
The hotel was unusual? Quirky pleasant and very central to all.I was travelling back to Catania over night for flight to uk.Easy to walk around and transport to airport 10/15 mins away nice good
Everythig was perfect...great position...great parking
Aparment is beautiful in heart of Catania...where you can feel the spirit of Sicily
