Would have liked a better explanation of the parking procedure: fight your way through the traffic jams and parking queues along the peninsula; go straight through the 'red ring of death' ZTL restricted zone; 50m later, go through the police checkpoint at the castle; show the policeman your hotel booking; he will note your license plate number and clear it from the ZTL system; wait for the traffic light and drive across the castle bridge; crawl carefully through crowds of tourists on the narrow cobbled streets; go through the archway; turn left onto Piazza Porto Valentino; if there is an empty space opposite the hotel take it! otherwise pull in next to the hotel, by the bike rack; unload you bags and go to check-in; you will be given a green authorization form to display in the windscreen of your car; if you are not already in a space, you need to move to the private parking lot; leave the hotel street, go ahead then left (north) into Via Giuseppe Piana (one way street); at the end, turn right on Valerio Catullo; continue up the hill, straight ahead, then around a long gentle left curve; the parking lot is on the left, with a sign for Hotel Pace; parking is tight and may look full; you can park in the central median if you have a small car and don't block other vehicles. Walk back to the hotel takes 5 mins. You probably want to leave your car there for the whole of your stay, and use the excellent buses and ferries to explore the towns around the lake. When driving out, remember to follow the system of one-way streets and observe the traffic lights.
Fabulous breakfast, including prosecco, and huge spread of cakes and tarts. Outdoor seating on the terrace and boat dock, faces west to the sunset in the evening. Friendly and enthusiastic staff make you feel very welcome.
Easy to get buses and ferries around the lake. Bus stop and ticket office is on the 'mainland' 50m from the castle bridge. Parking - you will be so glad there is free private parking available. Located in the centre of the town (beyond the castle) so an easy stroll to many restaurants and bars. Really hard to fault.
