The owner and his mother plus all the staff where very pleasant people and nothing was to much trouble. The owner Francesco waited for us to arrive at the hotel late at night due to our flight delay. The room was cosy and had a great feel about it. Very clean. If you are looking for something different in a hotel then go here.
The hotel was one of my favorites in Italy. The staff was exceedingly friendly and spent 15 minutes explaining the city and the history to us and gave us fabulous recommendations for food (You must go to Osteria L'Arco while in Matera!). The shower in the room was hands down, the nicest shower I've had in Europe, and the room was well lit and lovely in every way. The room we had was more modern, not the "stone room" that you see often in Matera, but it was fantastic nonetheless and I would return to this hotel in a heartbeat.
The room The staff The Food
The ability to walk out of our beautiful room directly into the ancient town, or to linger on the roof and admire the scene.
We loved everything about this Hotel. The young girl working during our check in was amazing! The owner is wonderful. We would definitely go back to this Hotel in a heart beat. The breakfast was delicious.
We had a very large van going into the hotel area. The opening was very narrow and we just fit. If you have a large van, find another parking area, if you are just driving a car, then you will be fine. That was the only down fall.
The staff at this hotel went over and above the call of duty. We stayed in Matera on an unexpectedly snowy night and woke up to unpassable roads the next morning. The staff worked tirelessly to find us road information, snow chains and a taxi driver to guide our car out of town as soon as the roads opened. They could not have been any better if we were their flesh and blood. Everything about this hotel was wonderful but the service was outstanding. the night before a different staff member called every restaurant in town to find us a reservation as almost everything was closed down. We would like to thank everybody very much.
Nothing, I would highly recommend this hotel.
We like all! Friendly staff, good breakfast, close to old city. Beautifull view from hotel to old city.
Room facilities; cleanliness; hospitality; location; wifi; view of Sasso Barisano; food intolerances catered for.
Great location and everything recently remodeled
What a lovely place. Our jr suites were beautifully decorated, spacious and very comfortable. Delicious breakfast was served each morning on the terrace overlooking Matera's historic old town. Easy to find, fast Wi-Fi, 5 minute walk to the center of town. You can drive up right to the door to unpack then park on the nearby street. Every detail in this place was thought of and implemented for guest's comfort. Vitta and Claudia were very helpful and informative and made our stay there an unforgettable experience.
Excellent location, nice room with all the confort, although opening on the terrasse, it was very quiet. Breakfast was very good .
We stayed for five nights in the Junior Cave Suite. A wonderful experience in a top class establishment. The view, breakfasts and hospitality from the lady owner and her staff were excellent! What more can I say, except thank you. Grazi!
I had the Senza Nidd room, a luxurious cave overlooking the Duomo and centre of the city. It included a beautiful en suite shower room in an adjoining cave. The staff were so very helpful and breakfasts in the sunshine on the terrace overlooking the city - superb.
I loved everything about Palazzo Degli Abati. Nothing negative to offer.
Love the room and the bathroom was really nice. The staff were really nice and cared for our needs. Breakfast on the patio was great with a wonderful view! They really helped us navigate the ins and out of fascinating Matera.
The hotel hard to find since it is a historic district and signage has to be minimal.
Great Place and Great Location
Hotel is wonderfully located overlooking the old town of Matera, and the cave sleeping experience was great fun. Comfortable room and very helpful and friendly staff.
Parking can be a bit of an issue as available spaces in old town are very limited.
Very helpful staff, interesting location, great views, nice room, nice and varied (sweet and savoury) breakfast. It is on the edge of the sassi district so didn't have to drive far into the sassi with a car, and parking was available nearby.
The location of the hotel is close to the main sight attractions, with lots of good restaurants nearby all reachable on foot in 5 to 6 minutes. The room is very clean and comfortable. The hotel staff, and in particular Claudia, is extremely friendly and helpful.
View from the Palazzo. Experience dwelling in caves. Variety of breakfast choice. Staff was helpful in planning this trip.
We wanted twin beds, but not available. So the room had a double and a sofa bed that was narrower than a single bed.
The staff are nice and friendly, excellent breakfast.
Wifi connection is terminated as soon as the device went asleep. It was cumbersome to have to log in every time to go online.
Spectacular city and hotel! We loved everything about this incredibly beautiful hotel. Sig.ra Diva spoke to us passionately about her Matera and this made us instantly love this unique city.
Palazzo Degli Abati was everything we expected, and more! Great location, great service, comfortable bed, and hot shower.
Beautiful room (we stayed in the cave jr suite), friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast, excellent wifi. Very good location at the top end of sassi barisano. For private tour guides ask the hotel staff - we had an excellent tour with Mr. Zasa.
Somewhat humid and musty in the cave room - the hotel provides for a dehumidifier on request.
Very clever conversion of s sasso Great breakfast Very friendly reception Very good situation overlooking the sassi
Lovely room, friendly welcome, early check-in and late check-out, beautiful outside terrace for breakfast, low rates minibar.
Bath would have been nice for this price
