Panoramic sea views can be enjoyed from all guest rooms at Il Gabbiano. This family-run hotel is a 15-minute walk from the center of Positano and the beaches. It features free Wi-Fi throughout.
Score from 381 reviews Very good
The view from the balcony was outstanding and the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. They provided information on local restaurants and transfers from the train.
The price for having such a great view is you are quite a long way from the town but it is worth it to have breakfast on the balcony.
I like the views from the hotel, the breakfast was tasty, staff helpful especially young lady and older gentleman at night, main bus stop right around the corner, clean hotel
Did not like that there was 864 steps down to the centre (I counted so this is a FACT), wiuld of wanted more choice from breakfast menu only a croissant, wanted our sheets changed when we were there, was there for 9 days and was not changed once, double bed was two singles pushed together and shower plug did not work so it would fill up and wiuld have to turn shower off half way through to let it to drain for about 5 minutes, very noisy not soundproof at all
location and the positano view is great. the rooms are very big and confortable and also very clean . its very near the bus staion so you can easly go to every near location . they talked good English and help us for everything for positano
Taking unauthorized money from credit card! Trying to charge for minibar and services not used. Basically suggesting we are liars! Ultimately ruining end of holiday! Should have read reviews before booking!! In future will read more about negative reviews before booking!! Owners responses tell a lot about them as people! Worst ever holiday experience. 10 euro per day charge for wi-fi - chose to spend money in cafe where wi-fi was free!
The view! Pleasant helpful staff
Paying for parking and wifi
Location much too inconvenient ESP paying top prices
We loved the location and the views. Yes the beach is a walk but you're staying in a city that is on the cliffside to the beach. The view from our balcony was breathtaking- we had to pinch ourselves every day- it was so beautiful. Loved that the breakfast was delivered to our room each morning to our room. The staff were incredibly friendly. One tip for those staying there- the staff offers to make reservations with a car to pick you up and return you to the hotel. I'd recommend walking yourself and finding another restaurant- there are better values with equal views. Plus it's nice to walk back to the hotel after a big Italian dinner!
Disappointed that the hotel charged us for ironing a couple of shirts. We asked for the iron ourselves but they insisted on ironing for us without discussing a fee and we ended up with an extra 20 Euro charge for ironing 3 shirts. That's the only complaint.
Rooms were comfortable, spacious with enough place to pack clothes. Close to bus stop.
They did not have free Wifi... were the only hotel on our trip that did not have free Wifi.
Hotel was clean and comfortable. Nice breakfast delivered to the room promptly in the morning.
Terrible location, SO far from city center. No free shuttle back and forth as described on the website. Did not feel like a 4 star hotel.
hospitality location view cleanliness
Says charges apply for packing and internet but when we got there it was $40 euros for parking and $10 euros for internet. Said we could change our reservation from two nights to one night when we checked in but next day was a different story. especially since we made plans to go to other part of Italy as a result of being told no problem. It is not a 5 minute walk to the center. Very high up on the hill and a crane blocked our view of the ocean. Check in staff was nice and told us no problem on the changes but morning crew was a total different story. Would even refund our parking or internet as a way to make up for the misunderstanding. Asked for an early breakfast because we would be checking out early…again no problem but showed up 45 minutes later. All in all Positano very nice but would steer clear of this place. Kept our car keys until we paid…made zero attempt to make us happy. We have traveled all over Europe the past month and by far the worst customer experience yet!
Loved our room and view. Great staff-- Francesca is a gem.
A little further from the beach than we had hoped
The 2nd bedroom did not have a closet or dresser; no where to store things
Over all a well run hotel, efficient and clean
Service wasn't very personal, everything was an extra cost, as much as possible. We were given a price for garage parking when we arrived, when we checked out one week later, this had more than doubled. Breakfast is extremely basic, anything you might want to suppliment even an extra cup of coffee through the day or when you arrive is at an extra cost, be mindful of this otherwise you will end up with a hefty bill
The only nice thing about the hotel was view.
Worst Hotel Experience of My Life. Completely Unprofessional and Unfriendly, not worth the money at all. Called before booking to make sure our triple room wasn’t a double with a cot and upon showing up it was. The craziest thing was after bringing it up they argued with us, accused us of lying and refused to open a 2nd bedroom that was a part of our room despite it being unusable to anyone else. The free shuttle only runs twice a day, the rest of the time they offer you a ride but charge you for a “taxi” fee of 30 euros (upon check out) even if it only takes you a few hundred meters down the hill. To park in their garage they “sized us up” when we checked (35 euros a day), I saw them give 2 different prices to other guests, one higher and one lower. None of the prices are listed anywhere for any extra amenities. The wifi is 10 euros per device per day. The free breakfast is a pastry and coffee undrinkable, thankfully there was a wonderful coffee shop around the corner. The furniture is really trumped up in the photos with furniture from other rooms being moved in to appear more than it is. It is cheap and tacky. Looked into moving to another hotel but only cheap places were available. Was thankful to leave and only spend a few nights there, really put a damper on our whole Amalfi coast experience.
nice window view
Too expensive for what it is (we ordered two orange juice and they were tiny and mixed with water and they charged us € 25!)
The room was clean and tastefully decorated.
The location was too far from the the beach and town centre, the staff were a bit indifferent and unfriendly and we were charged for parking our bike, even though no one mentioned a parking fee when they offered us the space!
The young looking elderderly lady at reception makes the first impression on behalf of the hotel, which is fantastic. Very helpfull
The staff was wonderful. Eva, Paolo, Francesca, Diego and our driver (who's name escapes me) were the best. The location was perfect as there was a shuttle service into the city center. The view from our room was amazing. We also enjoyed our breakfast on the terrace every day :). We would go back :).
Aldo was fantastic very helpful and friendly a good worker.
Xtra charges parking, wifi and room service not specific on known extras. Would recommend if had these included in price.
The staff were quite helpful especially Aldo and Diego. Stairs to the beach were a good workout and overall we had a great time. The breakfast served up each morning on the terrace was lovely too.
Manual accounting made checkout a little difficult, especially with the language barrier, but overall a good stay.
Whilst the location wasn't close to the beach (needed to catch the bus down or longer walk) - it did provide benefits of being outside the busier tourist area, close to small local markets and a beautiful water & Positano view. Additionally recommend selecting a room with a terrace as this enabled time to enjoy the location more fully for breakfast and rest times. The staff at Palazzo Marzoli were very friendly and helpful with any queries and assistance with tour or restaurant bookings.
In general the staff were average but there was one stand-out staff member that recovered for the others - Aldo was excellent, friendly and most helpful!
It isn't anybodies fault but be aware there is an established crane directly in front of the hotel obstructing the otherwise beautiful view!
Just being in Positano one of my favourite spot in Italy !
The position is not great. Very far for everything. Service very rude. Worst Orange juice in my life. We were 2 couple of friends and booked 2 connected rooms with bathroom and terrace. Ended up to be just one room (with a second small bed )and one bathroom ( the "second bathroom'' was supersmall and without shower). We asked to be moved in a proper second room and unless the hotel had availability the rude Owner ( a Lady with short red Hair) asked for crazy money for the change. Will never and back !!!
