Behind the front door at Via Fabroni 58 lies an amazing suprise: a beautiful 16th century building with wonderful and comfortable guest rooms and appartments (we had the top floor one with art-deco furniture; excellent for a small family). This, combined with most friendly and helpful hosts made our 3-night stay a wonderful experience. We enjoyed delicious home made breakfasts and a guided tour through the house. If we would ever get back in the Marradi area, we surely would revisit.

We stayed at Palazzo Toriani late March. Eight nights in total, which was not one night too much! Palazzo Toriani is a top scorer in terms of friendliness, service, cleanliness, spacious rooms and historic atmosphere (ask for a tour and see the preserved ceiling paintings). The breakfast is a dream of local specialties, Often homemade, and different from day to day. During our stay we spent 3-6 hours every day hiking. There are many fine walks around Marradi - with and without markings. Our hosts provided for us an excellent map bearing numbered as well as unnumbered trails. There is hiking for all levels of difficulty. We refrained from the longest and steepest (our age is 70 and 66 years), But there are great challenges for younger people. And everywhere in the mountains, you meet amazing views. Marradi itself is beautifully situated by the river Fiume Lamone.

This was a true surprise and a treat not to be missed - one we had never expected to be such a treasure. The palazzo has been wonderfully kept and immense care obviously taken to retain its atmosphere and qualities as a much loved 'seat' of an old family of stature. We were exceptionally well looked after, given a personal tour of the house and all its old treasures and history explained all followed by generous dinner and in the morning a breakfast table laid with an array of Italian cakes and treats as well as fresh fruit. If you want a treat for a romantic retreat -don't miss it.

There is nothing we did not like. Marradi is a small town but if you are into walking then there are plenty of great walking trails in the Appenine hills it is surrounded by.
