The first room we were given was not very nice at all, dirty net curtains, chipped and peeling paint, dark dingy corridor, toilet under the sink ( yes really) and no shower curtain. Oh and no WiFi. I couldn't believe this was a five star and that even though they knew it was our honeymoon they had made no effort at all! We complained and they moved us the following few nights to a lovely room, large comfy bed, a huge bathroom, more storage and clean, nice paintwork. Still not sure on the nets and the WiFi didn't work unless you were in the lobby but it definitely paid to complain. I got the impression they didn't like people who booked through third party services. I think with a little bit of money and care this hotel could return to the glamorous haven it once was.
The second room we were given was very nice, light, airy and comfortable. The ballroom and bars and communal rooms downstairs were breathtakingly beautiful, very glamorous with lovely chandeliers and paintings, I loved having a drink here before going out for the evening. The location was amazing, not far from the Spanish steps and a walk to all the main places.
