Hotel Porta Nuova  

If you are driving a car to get to Assisi, this hotel is perfect because it has free plentiful parking, just outside the city gate/walls and within an easy walk of the pedestrian parts of the city. (Assisi is many wonderful things, but it is not a car-friendly city - nor should it be - that's part of its charm.) The hotel itself is in a former large house and has a glassed in upstairs common reading/sitting area, as well as a small lobby and also a shaded outdoor porch swing off to one side of the parking lot, just outside the lobby. We enjoyed that there were lots of nice places for contemplation, reading, or naps at the hotel in addition to our room. The hotel's wireless internet worked well with our laptop (not something one should take for granted in Italian hotels including many that say they have internet access), and the breakfast, while not fancy, was more than adequate. Our room was quiet even though it was just above a busy road, and was spotlessly clean. Our room had a great view of the surrounding hills outside Assisi (though not all rooms do, so if this is important to you make sure you note it when you book). The staff did not speak a great deal of English, but were very nice, and the maid even ran after us on foot to return to us a canvas bag we accidentally left behind when we checked out. The stairs to the second floor are not steep and the staircase is nice and wide, but be aware there is no elevator. For us, Hotel Porta Nuova was an ideal base to (leave the car at) and explore Assisi on foot.

If you are driving, location is excellent - parking on site, very close to city gate.

Excellent staff, great location right at the entrance to historic Assisi, good recommendations for restaurants (with a 10% discount when showing hotel card), convenient on-site parking.

It has parking facility. The breakfast is ok.

The rooms are fine but it seems the walls are very thin and you could possibly disturb the neighbors. It is almost 10 to 15 min. Walk to the shrine of St. Francis.

The hotel staff was friendly and her explanation of Assisi was very informative. The location is best for people who come here by car and it takes just five minutes to get to Basilica di Santa Chiara.

L'unico aspetto negativo se così si puo' definire sono le dimensioni alquanto ridotte del bagno

Il bagno delle stanze, molto pulito e con una doccia comodissima e spaziosa.

O hotel fica a poucos passos da catedral de santa clara. Muito bem localizado!

Posizione ottima, due minuti a piedi dal centro storico di Assisi. Parcheggio privato.
