The hotel was family owned and run and they were very friendly and helpful and spoke english. It was close to the old city of Siena and yet had lovely views of the Tuscan countryside. There was secure parking. The air conditioning in the room worked well. The bathroom was fairly basic. It was difficult to get in and out of the shower because of the way it was positioned. Some of the chrome fittings had lost their chrome paint and were now copper coloured. It didn't look good. The light on the bathroom mirror didn't work.It was difficult to put anything over the washbasin because everything was uneaven. One of the main lights in the bedroom didn't work. There wasn't enough storage space in the bedroom, only a wardrobe. There was a small round table and two small chairs crammed into a corner in the bedroom. There wasn't enough room to use them properly, although I could had least use the table to put stuff on.The decor was something else.Certainly not what you would expect of a decent hotel. It was in parts like that you would expect to see in a childs play house. The TV although it worked, was not a modern flat screen like we had at every other hotel we stayed at.I must say it was an annex we stayed in and maybe the rooms in the main part of the hotel were better than this.It did seem like it was a bit of an add on.We paid roughly the same price in every hotel we stayed at.5 in total.Infact this was bang in the middle of the price range. All the other 4 had there differencies, but all were good. Unfortunately this was the one we stayed at the longest and was in a league of it's own.1 night you might tollerate, but 4.It wasn't worth half what the other hotels were.

The culture and history of Siena, with some of the greatest collections of arts in the world, the Cathedral is just stunning. A bit noisy, we could hear everything of the room above

The location is great if you have a car. Siena would be a nightmare to park a car in the town centre. It is only 15 minutes walk from the centre and and has a great view of the countryside from the top floor. Breakfast was included and was a typical italian continental style with very good coffee! The rooms are very basic and quite small, that said they were very comfortable.

The location was perfect -- just outside the gate to "old" Siena. Ease of accessibility without all the craziness of many people. Beautiful, best view from our window!!! Good breakfast!!! WiFi access was not available in our room, only in hotel office. I think in that case, there shouldn't be an extra charge for it. Still, it was a very good experience staying here.

The Porta Romana is in an excellent location. You can park for free and still walk into the city center in 15 minutes. It is situated overlooking a valley south of Siena with beautiful views. It made an excellent point from which we could explore Tuscany.

Very helpful staff; most of them spoke good or ok English, so that was nice for e non-Italian speakers. Amazing view from behind the hotel. Great antique Tuscan feeling to the whole place. Fifteen minute walk to the Campo. Nice and adequate breakfast, clean room. Noticed small rips in the quilt...but it wasn't off-putting.

The hotel is just outside the zth, and has free parking which is very good. The view from the room was good. Breakfast ok (Italian style). Room small. Double bed small. Noisy in the morning. 15-25 min walk to the center or a few min by bus outside the hotel.

Great location just outside the city walls of Siena. Free parking. Can walk into Siena or take an inexpensive bus that stops every 15 minutes just outside the hotel. Hotel staff extremely helpful. Room clean, breakfast good. Hotel has beautiful views of the countryside. Relaxing and quiet and yet very close and easy to get right into Siena to see the sights.

The location was excellent, within walking distance to town centre. Safe, onsite parking, just outside the town walls, so easy to access. Nice breakfast, friendly staff, clean rooms. Room was a little warm, fortunately evenings were cooler. No airconditioning, just ceiling fan.

The staff was wonderful - very welcoming and accommodating. Apart from that the views of countryside were fantastic! There's an outdoor seating area that overlooked the Tuscan hills where you could have wine at night and hang out. The location was great especially since it's just a 10 minute walk into Siena's city center. The rooms were spacious and clean. The breakfast was served outside in the garden when it was warm enough. They have a kiosk with different tours - we took the Brunello wine tour and it was amazing - they will arrange for it at the front desk if you ask. It's a great hotel to base at if you have a rental car and want to tour the nearby Tuscan hill towns - We took several day trips and then came back in the evenings and spent our nights in Siena for dinner and drinks on the piazza del campo afterwards. This never got old as there were plenty of great restaurants to choose from. We stayed for 5 nights and had an amazing time! The only complaint we have is that sometimes it was a little noisy with people coming in and out of their rooms. Instead of the traditional heavy, wooden doors, they probably got new ones which may be have been a bit flimsier and therefore didn't absorb the noise as well. It was not a big deal however and only really kept us up one of the nights when there seemed to be a lot of people coming in and out - possibly after having too much to drink :)

We lucked out with a wonderful view from our room--top floor, facing the fabulous Tuscan countryside. The room itself was charming and nicely decorated, the staff was very helpful and sweet, and the buffet breakfasts plentiful. It was tempting to stay within Siena itself for the convenience, but we were really glad we stay here just out of the city walls to afford us the unforgettable view and more relaxed atmosphere (a quick bus or modest walk got us in and out of town easily). There was very little not to like...only caution might be that the wifi (and their computer center use) comes with a charge, so just be aware.
