Hotel Portamaggiore overlooks the ancient walls of Rome, which date back to the first century. It features an attractive garden where you can relax with a drink from the bar.

Score from 1754 reviews Very good
Very friendly and cooperative staff, can speak English, 24/7 reception.
Building is bit old. Not very near to metro, though easy access.
Helpful, welcoming and friendly staff, very clean, quiet hotel in a peaceful, leafy residential location. Just a short distance from the centre and easily reached by taxi, bus or the new metro station. There is a secluded garden terrace and some of the rooms also have their own terrace. The breakfast buffet is plentiful and varied and the hotel has its own bar where we were offered a welcome drink and snacks. There are some decent restaurants nearby and we would especially recommend the Pepe Verde and the Piazza Caprera. The food and service were excellent in both of these. The wifi in the hotel was excellent, consistent and available throughout. There is also on-street parking if you are driving. Would definitely choose this hotel again if we were to go back to Rome. Special thanks to Roberta, Fabio and the team!
Very comfortable, clean room
Not that close to city center or airport. We only stayed one night so we didn't take advantage of any hotel amenities.
- Great location in quiet section of Rome (sites easily accessible via metro or bus) - Excellent breakfast (best of our 2 week Italian stay) - Clean and comfortable room
- Wi Fi: you are given a logon/password which only lasts for a short time (you can keep requesting new logons/passwords, but it's annoying)
Metro nearby Good size rooms Very helpful staff
For tourist out of the way
Excellent hotel! Best Value for Money!! Close to Metro, and placed in a very beautiful quiet area where you can have a peacefull rest. The staff is very helpfull, and the breakfast is healthy and delicious.
Perfect hotel outside central Rome.
Quiet suburban vibe with shops and restaurants close by. Luvly back courtyard for some outdoor leisure time. Excellent staff and food with light meal/snack served in the evening with drinks. Thank you all for our most enjoyable time!! Colin and Lynn Bull
The freindliness, and the garden terrace for breakfast
Lovely location. Excellent service from the friendly staff. Beautiful hotel foyer, lounge, terrace area.
The Relais staff was very easy to communicate with, the hotel very comfortable and clean, a calm oasis after days of touring in the heart of Rome. The breakfast buffet and afternoon small plates were fabulous - an unexpected treat.
This isn't really a negative - Hotel Relais is not within walking distance of tourist attractions but is in a lovely, quiet neighborhood, very convenient to the public bus system.
Good size and clean room, with a comfortable king size bed. Friendly and helpful staff, willing to help with tour options and restaurant recommendations. Quiet location away from the crazy touristy areas. Convienent for public transportation. Nice selection at the morning breakfast of pastries, fruits, and eggs. Hard to put this into words, but the hotel has a neat history and a good bit of interesting WWII memoriabilia, which makes it a very trendy/cool hotel. Also, it has a very nice lounge downstairs were you can purchase wine or scotch by the glass.
Only negative, yes it does have free wifi, very fast downstairs in the lounge, can be a little slow in the rooms but still works for loading simple web pages.
No tea or coffee facilities in the room
Powerful air conditioning and quiet location. The coffee (American) and Hot Chocolate at breakfast is a MUST. Staff are nice and very helpful.
Really special hotel in a quiet neighborhood. It's about a 15 minute metro ride from center of the city, but the station is new and easy to get to. Staff are all friendly and speak good English. It's spotlessly clean, and the deluxe rooms are large and comfortable. Standard rooms are smaller, but still fine. The breakfast is a large spread consisting of various breads, cereals, yogurt, fruit, meats, cheeses, coffee and tea. It's about half the price of nice hotels in the city center, and well worth the metro ride. In the evening they have a full bar, and snacks are free if you buy a drink. There is no restaurant on site, but there are several within walking distance. I highly recommend it!
Although approx 3kms from the centre the bus is close by and the new metro station is only a 10-15 min walk
Beautiful room, with terrace, excellent free breakfast, friendly staff, etc etc.
Location a bit off-center...to get to the 'action' you have to take a (brief) bus ride. Not a problem unless you stay out late - they stop running around 23:30.
The location of the hotel, the snacks at the evenings, the staff are very helpful, the rooms are very clean.
We were in a Junior room and there was not much space for hanging clothes.
The hotel was in a nice quiet location. The coffee was excellent and the staff very helpful. The hotel was very clean and comfortable.
The breakfast could have had more hot food options such as bacon.
Nice location, easy to access the hotel by car since it is outside of the downtown " core" area. We parked our car on the street just a block away from the hotel for about 6 Euros a day. The bus and Metro were close and took us directly to all the major sites in Rome in under a 1/2 hour. Buying a Roma Card for 36 Euros at the front desk, allowed us free unlimited access to the bus and subway system and two major attractions. We were also able to skip the long line at the Colleseum using the card. So the total time from our hotel room to entering inside the Colleseum was about 30 minutes!
The room was a bit small and stuffy. We did not spend much time in the room so this was not a big deal.
reception staff and bar staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely atmosphere, very comfortable.
breakfast staff were not great
Location, staff, facilities & breakfast
room size should have been little bigger for the price paid
Welcome and helpfulness of staff Nearness to metro station Atmosphere of rooms allocated Quality and variety of breakfast
No real faults
Charming and very clean. Great staff, delicious breakfast and a great location. Highly recommended!
