The owner & staff, the views, the peacefulness, the birds singing, the beautiful herb/vegetable gardens, the landscaping, their wine(one of the best we had) and waking to the sounds drifting through the magnificent building of another guest playing the piano, the guests' common space with the awesome fireplace & the sunsets.
It felt like much more than a B&B. Not sure this term does it justice. The drive up the mountain!
the views the food the charm the serenity the common areas Emiliano's cooking and wine The option to have a home cooked meal if Emiliano is able to do so
the windy, narrow road getting to the property was challenging at times, but once we reached the property it was worth it. Because we didn't want to drive the road late at night after drinking wine, we were glad the nights we stayed, Emiliano was able to offer us his 3 course meals.
The owner is an excellent chef. The food was incredible. The location is incredible and has an incredibly spiritual feeling. This served as a monastery from the 15th century until WW2. The vibe is exquisite.
The owner was cranky when our flights were delayed by over seven hours. and although we had booked for dinner, her claimed we had not. But he made up for it with a 9 pm meal of garden heirloom tomatoes, bread, prosciutto, fresh home made mozzarella and excellent home made wine.
Magnificent view of Lucca and the country side from high on the hill. Proprietor was a wonderful chef and superb wine maker. We woud love to return for a week.
The switch backs up to the site were difficult for us. However the proprietor told us the road was a fun drive for him.
We were warned by friends that the drive up to Relais La Cappella was tricky but actually it added it the whole adventure! The location is spectacular, the room although not luxurious was comfortable and dinner was our best meal in Italy. If you want something original, authentic and relaxing this is it. The service is understated but top class.
Fabulous views with Lucca 7km in the distance. Secluded location near end of 3 km road. Good sized room with clean and practical en suite. Service was with a gentle smile the whole place was clean and sparkling. The hotel reminds one of gracious, elegant living in days gone by. Great breakfast. It's a 15 minute drive to Lucca.
Better instruction required to find the side road which leads 3km up to the hotel. (It is opposite No 196 Via per Camairore).Evening meal is a single choice - albeit it was very good.
The historical monastery was wonderful. The view stunning. A hair raising drive to the property but worth it when you got to the top. Breakfast terrific and tasty. Definitely a place to stay for visit to Lucca
Unfortunately the staff were very disappointing. Not made to feel welcome and everything seemed a chore. Glad we stayed there but would not visit a second time
Very nice location on the hill, and with a very nice view. Very good breakfast.
We had expected to be able to eat an evening meal, but no service- not even a sandwich or snack. Had to go downhill again on the narrow road, and the suggested restaurant was closed.
Beautiful scenery with stunning views. Lovely house and grounds.
Shame the pool was closed as it was hot. Should have been warned about no evening food as it was a long way down the mountain to find something to eat.
There is an ease of subtly and down-to-earth loveliness about La Cappella that makes it the perfect pad for chilling overlooking Lucca and is equally well sourced for cycling junkies, and certainly for those looking for quiescence. Owner Emiliano is a friendly and discreet host, passionate about the place and about food with an eye for detail. Our room was large and clean with superb views (even from the shower). All windows had screens so no mosquitoes. The internet was working fine. Locally sourced produce, fruit/vegetables from Emiliano's garden and homebaked bread and cake are served at the breakfast and dinner table. Don't hesitate to stay in for dinner! In short, La Cappella has everything you need with all of the causality you crave. A serene retreat to retune and return to.
No fan in room
Location Landscaping Emilio was a wonderful host.
Mosquitoes in room (because no air so open windows) Hair-raising ride up to hotel, especially at night Trouble finding hotel using GPS
Clean View !!! Breakfast Very large and beautiful room
It was a great stay there, wonderful place, like a escape from reality. If you want a calm and nice place, away from the croud, it's your choice.Emiliano (the owner) is very kind and helpful.
Beautiful location, stunning views and very relaxing. Owners dog was also delightful!!
Directions could have been better but what a fantastic location and wonderful views. Resident lounge was beautiful Good extensive choice at breakfast Plenty of hot water Just a little more effort to please by the manager would be good, smiling costs nothing.
Uncomfortable beds and pillows 40% of light bulbs missing or not working. Only one replaced during our stay Poor kitchen facilities No kettle (nor was there in 4 other locations we stayed at during our break in Tuscany) so maybe that's the norm. Poor quality furniture in apartment sitting room
Whilst it may be a bit far from Lucca for some (its a 15 minute drive) we really enjoyed the windy roads which lead to a really special location with amazing views towards Lucca and surrounding area. The owner is a great host and really looked after us. They also have a great breakfast. We were unfortunate not to arrive when dinner was being served but there are plenty of restaurants in Lucca.
This Tuscany bed and breakfast on a hillside outside Lucca was magnificent and a must stay. Emelio has transformed this old Monastery into a scenic, relaxing and reasonably priced establishment. The on-line process was easy and fast. The website pictures were realistic which was really super when we arrived. We had a wonderful large clean room with two beds and a large bathroom. Bathroom lacked standard amenities you would find in an American hotel. I would bring my own facecloth, soap and shampoo. Signage to the hotel was good on a narrow road but I would do it in the daylight. Entrance is granted through a key coded iron gate which is good. No A/C but we did not need it. Prevailing winds were good. It was very quiet at night. Breakfast was superlative and we ate outside viewing the beautiful Lucca area. This place is near all the good sites; e.g. Lean Tower of Pisa, Villa’s, Lucca sights, etc. Emelio was personable and engaging. He helped us with a door lock issue that was our problem; not his. Without hesitation, we wished we had stayed another couple days and if back in the immediate vicinity, we would stay here. It is magnificent.
The whole ambieance.
The location, staff and accommodations were beyond compare. This is one of the very best vacation experiences. We will definitely return on our next trip and will stay longer!
The view from this property will take your breath away! It's a piece of heaven above the clouds exuding peaceful tranquility. Breakfast is served by the most hospitable owner on the beautiful terrace.
It's a bit hard to find but the owner will help you and then it's easy! The road is not for the faint hearted but worth every bend :)
This is a unbelievable Hotel, well it is more like a home! The la Cappella is situated on the side of the hill over looking Lucca in the distance, so eating freshly made breakfast on the verander is breathtaking. The hotel is more like a home, with huge living spaces to chill out and read. The rooms are traditional Italian with huge beds, for a lovely nights sleep. The food is exceptional and Emillio ensures you are waited on hand and foot to make your stay is relaxing an pleasurable. This is an unbelievable place to stay and I would recommend it to all couples you and old.
I enjoyed very much staying at this amazing place where you can find peace & tranquility everywhere you look. I would completely recommend it and I'm sure I will be back soon...very soon.
Friendliness of host, stunning view
Horse Flies by the pool could be a bit of a pain - to do with the weather, I believe.
We loved the setting, the host, the house, the breakfast-fresh baked bread and cake straight from the oven eaten on the terrace overlooking the countryside. I had an early morning tour of the garden by David. He grows fresh herbs-hoping to have his own tea and soaps made for guests eventually. Already produces wine which he gives to his guests. We only stayed one night but would love to come back some day for rest and relaxation. Just beautiful. Fab dog as well!
I didn't ask for directions and found it very difficult to locate. The post code covers a huge area and local people couldn't tell us where it was. Thank goodness we found it eventually. Could say turn opposite the bar and look way up on the hill past the church! It is out of the way but so worth it.
