Once a seminary, Hotel San Francesco is now a boutique hotel in the heart of the Trastevere district and 330 yards from the Porta Portese market.

The Hotel Santa Maria is in Trastevere, on the bank of the Tiber River, it is one of the most charming and authentic neighborhoods of Rome's historic center.
Score from 201 reviews Wonderful
Location, comfort of room, how quiet the room was, history of the hotel.
Location in Trastevere, best section of Rome. Le Clairsse was better than the other 2 hotels we stayed in in Trastevere over the years. Upgrade was greatly appreciated. Opened to a lovely courtyard, nice for breakfast and an evening cocktail. Fab staff, very helpful.
very nice location in Trastevere, quiet inner yard, we would certainly come again
The photos seen in advance may have promised too much.
Room was a reasonable size. Bathroom was spacious. I enjoyed being able to open the shutters in the morning and see people passing by just outside the window, including stalls set up on the corner. Staff were great. Really helpful for printing out tickets, ordering taxis etc.
The courtyard was nice but small enough that people smoking at other tables ruined it. Only ate breakfast one day and enjoyment was limited by the local pollution caused.
A great location in the fantastic area of Trastevere. Walking distance from the centre of Rome and lots of lovely restaurants and cafes. Bruno's cafe (the owner is called Bruno but can't remember the name of the actual cafe) just along the road from the hotel is a great find for breakfast if you've not chosen to have breakfast at the hotel. Very comfortable rooms, amazing old building. The staff are just so wonderful and helpful - for us this was a guy called Giovanni who had left a little card and a bottle of champagne for us in our room as we were spending part of our belated honeymoon in Rome at this hotel. He also passed on a message left for us by our Italian friend who had left the message days before we actually arrived. Just amazing service and a really really great place to stay. I would highly recommend it.
Nothing!! It was fantastic :)
It's location is good and the staff were very helpful
We had a family room and the sofa bed was terrible!! It had a super thin mattress which made if feel like a bar was across your back! Also, when we put on the spa a whole lot of black gunk came out of it!!!
Wonderful location in Trestevere, beautifully refurbished historical building, very friendly and helpful staff.
Lovely small hotel. Friendly staff. Beautiful rooms.
Extra single bed not very comfortable
The location: Trastevere is a great area, and the hotel is right in the heart of the neighborhood. The staff: incredibly helpful and pleasant. The extra touches: champagne and a Thank You note for us when we checked in; the AC in the room was fully functioning and kept us cool all night.
The hallways: it was a bit noisy outside with the other guests coming and going, and as the rooms are so close, it sometimes sounded like someone was in our room. Plus, the door opening and shutting sounded so loud, almost like a gunshot.
Travelled with friends and central garden area great to sit and chat. Location was excellent. Taxi handy, no 8 tram straight into centre of Rome very nearby. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Flora was great and assisted me when I had to cancelled credit cards after wallet was stolen in Naples. Thanks for making our Rome experience one to remember.
Staff working on computers inthe courtroom during the day a little annoying. Spent one afternoon testing in room and smoke and chatter a minor problem
We stayed in the superior garden rooms which opened out onto the courtyard. My family and friends booked three rooms and the courtyard offered a great spot for socializing, eating and relaxing after long and hectic days sightseeing. The staff were at all times friendly and helpful. The rooms were large and comfortable and the location allowed us easy access to the city as well as numerous places to eat in the Trastevere area.
My only criticism which was a minor issue was the fact that the staff use the courtyard as an office during the day and on one occasion when we spent the afternoon in our room the cigarette smoke and constant discussions which took place were a little annoying.
Very helpful staff. Good sized room. Location great. Fantastic breakfast.
The bed - 2 singles joined together. Mattress not very comfortable. Could be improved.
staff staff staff location
Close to everything but also not commercial. Live like the locals.
Rooms were a bit small
Close to the heart of Rome, yet extremely quiet.
Spacious room and bathroom.
Rooms facing the court yard are noisy during the day, which creates issues transitioning from long distance travel across time zones (when sleep might me required in the middle of the day).
The staff, the courtyard, the buffet, the location of Trastevere. So charming. Loved being off the beaten path of the busy Roma highlights.
We liked it ALL.
We returned from a day out on the town on my wife's birthday to find a cake and champagne on the desk. It was a great surprise and really made her day.
Character full and charming hotel. Excellent staff.
I booked it for the location and was not disappointed. The neighbourhood was a real one and had a great atmosphere with people going about their daily lives.
The staff were most helpful in arranging a surprise birthday room service breakfast for my girlfriend, complete with a birthday cake from the local pasticceria, roses and a bottle of prosecco.
Good location, friendly polite staff, cleanliness.
Alina and the whole staff were very helpful. I especially liked the location, close to shops, dining options, and casual night life. The bathroom great, our room was very large with windows on the courtyard. Ask for "Olivo" the olive room.
That we couldn't stay longer!
There's a very friendly male receptionist that tried to give us useful directions and made us feel at home. The area is also full of many great dining places, suitable for breakfast, lunch or dinner. As we were on our honeymoon trip, they were able to arrange a nice quiet corner room for us. There was even a nice thoughtful platter of food to welcome us!
