An Intereting, historical and beautifully furnished hotel. Situated in the medieval town of Gubbio. It's small dog friendly. If you are driving you need to navigate through the medieval centre of the town to drop your luggage at the hotel and then park your car aross town in a public car park. There is an extra fee charged to park your car.

The hotel was enormously characterful - totally in keeping with the mediaeval hill town of Gubbio, whose charm is irresistible. The location is excellent, right on the square which overlooks the town as it dramatically slopes away down the hillside. While we were there some filming for a popular tv series was taking place in the square and the actors were regularly in the hotel cafe! The breakfast was fresh and filling. The staff were extremely helpful and hugely welcoming. The room was spacious, with a nice outlook onto a courtyard below. The bathroom was well appointed, with (unusually) a bath - a rare treat actually. You absolutely should stay here!

We were on our honeymoon for eight nights there and it was perfect, the views of the town and the weather. Its a real med-evil town with small streets and side streets Other than, more of a bigger selection at breakfeast, but all italian hotels do similar breakfeast

Gubbio is a charming, medieval town and the Relais Ducale is at its centre. From our room we had an amazing view out over the town. Adjacent to our room was a beautiful, terraced garden, one of at least two exquisitely- maintained gardens in the hotel. If you are staying give yourself a treat: have breakfast in the terraced garden in the warm Italian morning sun, surrounded by plants and with a sensational view of the town, yet so private and peaceful - well worth the €6 per person service charge (you get a better breakfast also than in the breakfast room). Heavenly! The hotel manager/receptionist was so professional and helpful, advising us about where to go in Gubbio and in nearby Assisi. Access to the hotel by car is not for the faint-hearted. Make sure you have your satellite navigation on - otherwise it's very tough finding your way in, as we found out. Even then it's difficult manoeuvring through twisty, narrow, largely-pedestrianized streets to the hotel and then finding your way to parking outside the town. The bells on Sunday morning woke me up a little after 6 am: they were coming from about 3 diffferent churches at 15 minute intervals and very loud! No chance for renewed sleep! All the more surprising, as there was a town festival the night before with delightful dancing in the streets and there was no sound of traffic until well after 9 am. Now I understand one of the sources of Contintental anti-clericalism! The normal access to the hotel is through a cafe at street level and you go through a series of stairs and lifts to your hotel rooms. At night when the cafe is closed you access the hotel by way of a side alley to a garden and behind it is the reception area. On our first night we were alarmed to find the gate to the garden & reception locked at about 11 pm and no answer from what we thought was the bell. Eventually, we started hammering the garden gate and the door was opened. This is the only 4 star hotel I have been in which was not always open! The gate should be left open or, at least, the correct bell to press should be made clearer for foreigners.

The hotel is quirky in that you enter through the bar and register on the next floor. After registering to find your room you walk through the patio and into another building. There is an elevator to take you to your room. Our room had a beautiful view overlooking the city. The a/c worked great. The artwork and furnishings in the room all pulled together well. Breakfast was included in the rate and was more then adequate. We felt like we got a lot for the rate we were paying. It was a very charming place to stay and a great location. There is no car parking at the hotel, but you can take your car to a car parking area just outside of the walled city. Then you have to walk back. If you were handicapped the hotel has too many twists and turns to be a good hotel for you. As a lot of the things we found unique and fun wouldn't be.

Gubbio is a fantastic historic town and the hotel fits in perfectly. The outdoor terrace gardens are perfect for taking a break from sightseeing. The location is in the center of town - convenient to restaurants, sights and shopping. Rooms are comfortable with lovely views. Getting to the hotel to drop off our luggage was an adventure down the narrow one way streets of Gubbio and we had to go quite a way to find a place to park the car but it was a very small price to pay for staying in this lovely town!
