Hotel Residence Esplanade  

Hired bikes - excelent value at €5 for the day from midday onwards.They had a deal with Nuova Italia so we got 2 sunbeds and an umbrella and use of the pool for €15 for the day - although they save the best beds for the season ticket holders so many of the beds near the sea were left empty which was a bit annoying,Hotel was really nice and definitely good value.

Small but adequate bathroom

We got a flash deal and stayed at this four star hotel for 35 Euros. They upgraded us to a suite. The hotel it centrally located in Viareggio across the street from the former beach establishment connected to the Principe di Piemonte Hotel next door with a lovely restaurant/bar/bathing/beach/pool establishment across the street. There's a huge beautiful park 50 feet away. They rented bikes to us for 8 Euros a day. The whole thing was terrific.

It's too expensive to go back without a flash deal.

Our stay was excellent. We had booked on a special offer including free late check out. The room had a small balcony and was very clean, The location was great with easy access to the beach and local station. Very central for visiting Pisa and Florence. Staff were very friendly, would definately recommend and book here again

The cleaness of the room

Staff does not speak English, bathroom from the last world war.... small, narrow and the shower itself is for very small people...Breakfast which is in a 1 star level...cold food. I wonder that this hotel is a 4 stars hotel.....

It was clean, friendly and quiet. We liked to walk out to the sea, restaurants and through the woods to station. Great for base for trips.

Tea making in the room would be great.

Parking outside and on line permit was helpful. Breakfast was good continental in pleasant restaurant.

We had 5 heavy cases - the porter carried the smallest and lightest to the room and then disappeared. That left me to struggle three journeys up and down to the room - up all the steps, into the lift and along the long corridors with the rest. The hotel was not busy at the time and he could easily have helped.

Excellent and friendly staff, they went out of their way to accommodate us. When we discovered the wi fi was only available in the lobby they were very sorry we did not understand from their website but nothing they could do to change. The hotel was in a good location for the Carnivale parade, close but away from the noise it created. Was not facing the beach, but not a far walk down to the water. Rooms were nice, bathrooms typical, very small but nicely equiped. Lighting was an issue in both rooms, but we managed. Unexpected but rooms had small refrigs which was nice. Breakfast was good. Had dinner in the hotel one evening, disappointed to find they only served a "price fix" dinner wiith limited options, but the meal was fine.

When we arrived key would not open door, finally bellman got it opened, continued not to work properly, shutters would not stay open and there was only a floor lamp on the far side of the room for light at the desk. The next morning when we discussed these issues they offered to move us, we moved to a larger suite, lighting was still an issue but it was a much nicer room. The biggest complaint however was the wi fi service. On the Booking website for this hotel it said "wi fi service", what it did not explain was that wi fi is only available in the lobby, not in the rooms. They have high speed cable access in the rooms for computers but since we are now only traveling with our iPad, this was not helpful. Difficult with 9 hour time change to Skpe and Facetime in the lobby/bar with all the background issues, very disappointed.

The staff we meet were very friendly and helpful, they even watched our bags while we spent our last day on the beach before driving onto florence, they even offered the washroom for our use when collecting our bags. The room was very comfortable and had a sunny little balcony, but no view. Comfy bed with fluffy pillows and the shower had great power to wash off the beach. The bar staff even invented a cocktail for me!

The hotel was located near the beach and looks nice from the outside. The staff at the reception desk was nice and helpful most of the times. We experienced no problems with Internet access. The room was very clean and nicely furnished.

The breakfasts did not meet any norms, let alone those of a four-star hotel, with the food being monotonous and of very law quality (green eggs, dry scrambled eggs and bland ham; water for brewing tea was cold or smelt funny). The waiters seemed a bit irritated whenever asked for something. For two days, we couldn't get proper Italian coffee, while only cold instant coffee was offered (until Italian guests asked for a different one). The "regular" room was extremely small, being reminiscent of a single room with a double bed in it. The door to our room wouldn't close unless we banged it (disturbing other guests). The air conditioning in the room was permanently turned off (and on the heating mode). There is no free parking space for hotel guests.

We were upgraded on arrival! This was most appreciated as we were on our honeymoon. Our suite was super clean and very large The balcony was big and our living room was great. The bathroom was well equipped and spacious and the bed was large and comfortable. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Finally, the food, both breakfirst and our evening meal was excellent! I will recommend this hotel to others. Keep up the good work, your efforts are appreciated!

Lack of pool and or beach area.

This is a hotel that sits just off the main seafront thoroughfare, with its shops bars and restaurants, also located very near to a large park to its right. There is no disturbance from traffic noise. Very comfortable and attarctive double bedroom and bathroom facilities. No trace of dust, dirt or wear for that matter. Full buffet breakfast (included in my price) with helpful and attentive staff. Good value for money,

recorded background music during breakfast: personally this irritates. On one morning in particular I found the level of it intrusive. (Did not complain).
