Hotel Residence Esplanade  

The hotel was located near the beach and looks nice from the outside. The staff at the reception desk was nice and helpful most of the times. We experienced no problems with Internet access. The room was very clean and nicely furnished.

The breakfasts did not meet any norms, let alone those of a four-star hotel, with the food being monotonous and of very law quality (green eggs, dry scrambled eggs and bland ham; water for brewing tea was cold or smelt funny). The waiters seemed a bit irritated whenever asked for something. For two days, we couldn't get proper Italian coffee, while only cold instant coffee was offered (until Italian guests asked for a different one). The "regular" room was extremely small, being reminiscent of a single room with a double bed in it. The door to our room wouldn't close unless we banged it (disturbing other guests). The air conditioning in the room was permanently turned off (and on the heating mode). There is no free parking space for hotel guests.

The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The room was excellent and very comfortable. The balcony was a great addition to be outside at night. THe hotel is not super close to the train, but we backpacked there in about 20 mins. And it is very close to the beach and a grocery store. Excellent all around.

Best not to travel there from Firenze on a Sunday, train is filled with teenagers. Monday was great.

Hotel che soddisfa le aspettative sotto tutti i punti di vista.. Al prezzo di un ostello ho soggiornato con la mia ragazza in una camera di questo hotel che dal mio punto di vista non ha niente da invidiare ad un 5 stelle.. Camera nuova, modernamente arredata, con tutti i comfort, e perfettamente pulita.. La vista sul mare naturalmente da anche quel tocco romantico in piu.. Insomma una scelta azzeccata, ci tornero sicuramente..

Purtroppo è possibile usare internet solo con computers con cavo ethernet, perche non c cè wi-fi

The staff we meet were very friendly and helpful, they even watched our bags while we spent our last day on the beach before driving onto florence, they even offered the washroom for our use when collecting our bags. The room was very comfortable and had a sunny little balcony, but no view. Comfy bed with fluffy pillows and the shower had great power to wash off the beach. The bar staff even invented a cocktail for me!

Free wifi, Excellent location, Welcoming staff, Good buffet breakfast.

As an interior designer, I believe they could improve the sense of arrival with regards to the reception. I have an expectation of 4 stars and this perhaps let's it down a little. Given the space available they could improve it drastically. As we say in our industry, first impression counts. I was disappointed initally on entering however the quality of the room made up for it.

Bad food and service at breakfast; small rooms.

We have stayed at the hotel several times now. We have stayed as a family with grandchildren and as a family group. It has always been excellent with great facilities set in a position for the beach, the promenade with shopping and restaurants or cafes and for opportunities to see other contrasting places, eg Florence and Lucca. The park allowed us the chance to exercise or walk leisurely at the end of a day.In all aspects the Esplanade provides a splendid base to enjoy one of our favourite places - Viareggio. Thanks to all concerned!!!

Good location, friendly staff, good soundproof between rooms. Hotel offers two beaches at the same price - choose Nuova Italia if you want to use pool actively, especially with children, otherwise take Principe beach as it is more quiet and offers more space, but has outdated pool.

Decor&furnishing is very simple, naked walls painted in a such style that looks like hospital rather than hotel, family room kitchen lacks dishwasher. Overall this hotel is a value for money, but a fair effort of decor improvement would be great.

Breakfast is pretty ordinary.

Good = This is a very typical Italian hotel. A grand entrance and large dining room that was clearly once an impressive and important hotel in the area. Good location right by the beach but not too noisy. Nice, modern rooms, well maintained and with good toiletries on offer and large modern flat-screen TV with satellite.

Bad = The foyer has lost all it's charm and is now a mish-mash of styles. Very modern red leather chairs sit alongside old furniture from the 1980s and dozens of other items that have appeared over the years and never been cleared out. Messy and mixed up due to sloppy management. A reception desk covered in "stuff". Just not a "slick" feel to the entrance.

We arrived early in the morning and were checked in straight away which was rrally helpful. Parking was arranged for us and the location is excellent just off the sea front, but only a few steps away. Staff were respectful and helpful. Would highly recommend

Bathroom is small, but adequate.
