Nothing, we will return
We have stayed here before and requested the same room and the staff were very accommodating. The standard of room is excellent, and everything you need for a comfortable stay is provided, especially the jacuzzi bath. The weather wasn't particularly good when we were there but the room was very warm which was very welcome.
Given how spacious the room is, an extra bathroom would add a lot more to the comfort in this property. For a family of 4, just one bathroom was a little limiting at times when you're rushing to head out for the day.
The room (or shall I call it an apartment!) was much more spacious than we had anticipated which was a huge bonus for our two young kids. The character of the room, the cleanliness, the staff, everything was perfect. In fact, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. My husband and I even managed two romantic dinners on our own as the hotel owner found us a brilliant babysitter! Can't recommend it enough.
Staff was a bit cold and less helpful than hoped for - did not offer to help us make a restaurant reservation (we don't speak Italian) even though we had made clear we would need one... Also did not help with carrying bags uphill to the apartment. Not the end of the world but not the standard of service we would expect for such a highly rated hotel
Spacious apartment, comfortable.
Nothing to dislike at this property.
Matera is absolutely magical and this property made our stay in the Sassi even more enchanting! Our rock dwelling room was decorated so beautifully. It was spacious, clean, and the cellar in the room was fantastic. I have travelled all over the world and there is nothing that compares to this property in that location! Brunella was superb with check in and all the suggestions she gave us were spot on. Arturo's for the best sandwich and Da Francesca for a most memorable and delicious dinner with typical food of Matera.
Cleanliness, location, facililities all excellent
Nothing to dislike
Warm and cozy
bathroom way too small
location size of room staff friendliness and helpfulness fruit basket selection provided
It is the most interesting hotel I've seen, part of the room was carved in rock. Big clean condo, comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen, walking distance to whatever you need: restaurants, city center, panoramic view. I definitely recommend it!
loved it all
location, staff, breakfast and facilities
Hard to find parking ( but they offer a valet service for 15 EUR )
Amazing Room Close to everything to visit Good variety of breakfast Good Price
Car parking can be a challenge in the Sassi Self-catering breakfast (unless you're ok with fruit and biscotti only)
The whole concept of living in a cave dwelling Wonderful features of the suite emphasized cleverly with design and architecture Lots of space in suite Kept very clean and private
Friendly, helpful staff. Great location, clean spacious room, kitchen and bathroom all seemed to be newly renovated. Beautiful shower and spa bath. It was nice having coffee and tea supplies, milk and fresh fruits for breakfast in the room. We had our own wine cellar, unfortunately, there was no wine in it : )
Size of accommodation, central location, facilities - and uniquely it is built over an ancient excavation that you can visit!
It was different , calming , cool and was a room where the view was inside not outside . We plan to return it was different and should be on everyones bucket list . Our cave had a wine cellar so the buckets were supplied !!!!
The steps up to our room but the view from our room was worth it
Staff was very helpful in suggesting parking spots, sightseeing, and restaurants. Our room had a balcony and we could look out over Matera.
Hard to find, freezing room with no heat to adjust, inadequate breakfast, poorly lit room, damp, lousy bed, way overpriced.
The bathroom was outstanding.
Finding someplace to park can be a challenge (we got lucky and found a spot). Reception is on the main street through the Sassi, the room is halfway up the hill. So there is always some climbing, either up or down, to be done. Breakfast is basic, and self-serve in the room. I mention this more as a FYI, rather than a complaint.
We stayed in a cave! great room, with the most incredible bathroom. The perfect room for a stay in Matera.
Breakfast consists out of biscuits, fruit and cornflakes. If you want bread you will have to walk to the nearest supermarket on the square up the stairs (5 minutes).
Location is excellent, you sleep in the Sassi and if you take the correct stairs you will be in the "new city center" in 5 minutes max. It is a tidy spacious room with a really good shower. Beds are comfortable and it is nice to sit outside on the patio.
We spent many wasted hours trying to find the office. The people of Matera were wonderfully helpful. Wish I could say the same for the proprietor. When we called for assistance, he told us to get to a piazza and call and he would come. He offered no directions TO the piazza. After much meandering, we called again and he gave directions, although they were not helpful and we finally found it on our own. We wasted an entire afternoon thanks to his lack of customer service in helping us get to the hotel in the first place.
The town is incredible and staying in the lower sassi was an unforgettable experience. A film was being shot there that made access to places we wanted to go challenging, but we could certainly understand why they wanted to film there. It looked like what we would expect Jerusalem to look. Very interesting historical museum and cave churches, too.
Absolutely nothing !
The innkeeper and her staff couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful during our stay.
Breakfast choice was limited.
It was an experience sleeping in a cave. Marvellous bathroom.
The room, like most in the old quarter was a hike to get to. Not recommended for people with limited mobility. Had to park about a mile away as there was no parking in the old quarter.
The room was large and well kept.
Friendliness of staff...cleanliness, location, comfort, ambience and quirkiness....loved staying in a cave....cosy and inviting...all the mid conveniences....lovely breakfast etc etc...
A unique experience to stay in a cave house. Our family group had a wonderful visit to Matera. The history is fascinating and the local people so friendly.
