Amazing Room Close to everything to visit Good variety of breakfast Good Price
Hard to find parking ( but they offer a valet service for 15 EUR )
The whole concept of living in a cave dwelling Wonderful features of the suite emphasized cleverly with design and architecture Lots of space in suite Kept very clean and private
Car parking can be a challenge in the Sassi Self-catering breakfast (unless you're ok with fruit and biscotti only)
Friendly, helpful staff. Great location, clean spacious room, kitchen and bathroom all seemed to be newly renovated. Beautiful shower and spa bath. It was nice having coffee and tea supplies, milk and fresh fruits for breakfast in the room. We had our own wine cellar, unfortunately, there was no wine in it : )
Size of accommodation, central location, facilities - and uniquely it is built over an ancient excavation that you can visit!
It was different , calming , cool and was a room where the view was inside not outside . We plan to return it was different and should be on everyones bucket list . Our cave had a wine cellar so the buckets were supplied !!!!
Staff was very helpful in suggesting parking spots, sightseeing, and restaurants. Our room had a balcony and we could look out over Matera.
The steps up to our room but the view from our room was worth it
The bathroom was outstanding.
Hard to find, freezing room with no heat to adjust, inadequate breakfast, poorly lit room, damp, lousy bed, way overpriced.
We stayed in a cave! great room, with the most incredible bathroom. The perfect room for a stay in Matera.
Finding someplace to park can be a challenge (we got lucky and found a spot). Reception is on the main street through the Sassi, the room is halfway up the hill. So there is always some climbing, either up or down, to be done. Breakfast is basic, and self-serve in the room. I mention this more as a FYI, rather than a complaint.
Location is excellent, you sleep in the Sassi and if you take the correct stairs you will be in the "new city center" in 5 minutes max. It is a tidy spacious room with a really good shower. Beds are comfortable and it is nice to sit outside on the patio.
Breakfast consists out of biscuits, fruit and cornflakes. If you want bread you will have to walk to the nearest supermarket on the square up the stairs (5 minutes).
The town is incredible and staying in the lower sassi was an unforgettable experience. A film was being shot there that made access to places we wanted to go challenging, but we could certainly understand why they wanted to film there. It looked like what we would expect Jerusalem to look. Very interesting historical museum and cave churches, too.
We spent many wasted hours trying to find the office. The people of Matera were wonderfully helpful. Wish I could say the same for the proprietor. When we called for assistance, he told us to get to a piazza and call and he would come. He offered no directions TO the piazza. After much meandering, we called again and he gave directions, although they were not helpful and we finally found it on our own. We wasted an entire afternoon thanks to his lack of customer service in helping us get to the hotel in the first place.
The innkeeper and her staff couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful during our stay.
Absolutely nothing !
It was an experience sleeping in a cave. Marvellous bathroom.
Breakfast choice was limited.
The room was large and well kept.
The room, like most in the old quarter was a hike to get to. Not recommended for people with limited mobility. Had to park about a mile away as there was no parking in the old quarter.
Friendliness of staff...cleanliness, location, comfort, ambience and quirkiness....loved staying in a cave....cosy and inviting...all the mid conveniences....lovely breakfast etc etc...
A unique experience to stay in a cave house. Our family group had a wonderful visit to Matera. The history is fascinating and the local people so friendly.
Very well situated and comfortable with little outdoor area. Good and spacious with good shower room.
Need a bigger coffee maker - only a very small bialetti. And some fresh bread as well as the biscotti would be much nicer for breakfast. And the fruit wasn't ready to eat. Parking advice sent too late.
The inn owner Allesandra couldn't have been a more excellent person for the job. Very welcoming and very helpful in all respects.
Absolutely nothing !
The location is exellent to visit Sassi. Exellent internet connection.
Very poor (and only sweet) breakfast. We din't have balcony but patio with no chairs and table.
Staff were welcoming. Location of room was very central. Room was well equipped and huge. Kids loved the whole experience of sleeping in a cave. The enormous wine cellar was a real feature and outside seating area was useful. We loved Matera and would highly recommend a visit.
This is a cave so although luxurious it is slightly damp and dark even in summer!
This accommodation was absolutely fantastic. You would not believe a cave could be so luxurious. The bathroom was also beautiful with a shower with water coming at you from up to 9 different angles should you so desire. Brilliant! Matera itself is also fantastic and the location of this property couldn't be better set in a quiet part of the old town just below the cathedral with lots of lovely restaurants nearby. I cannot recommend this hotel high enough. Its like 2 million years BC meets NASA and its oozing with charm!
Staff was very accommodating (especially as we arrived after 9.00pm). Closeness to sights and staff provided good information, maps etc.
Bedroom was upstairs and the floor creaked very badly.
It was in the heart of the old city. staff was wonderful. well stocked for continental breakfast.
A unique property - a luxurious cave, situated up a cobbled path, surprisingly close to the centre of town. The cave had been beautifully converted from the original with en suite, TV etc. Warm and snug.
Might not be suitable for disabled people in view of its location. Humidity was quite high but a dehumidifier was provided. Breakfast (DIY) was a bit limited.
