Hotel is located in the centre of the ciity up a fairly steep steet. Bedrooms are spacious. Good bathroom and very clean. Owners have gone for a certain feel to the hotel and some visitors might find the decoration in the rooms a bit gloomy. There was a small terrace at the top of the hotel with a few sun beds and a hot tub. It was nice to sit out in the early morning and late evening earing fruit we'd bought from the local market. Breakfast is good and breakfast room is located on a big terrace. Hotel staff were very helpful. I would certainly stay here again. Some of the guide books don't give a good writeup about Catania however we found it was a nice place to stay for a couple of nights before moving on elsewhere. It's nice to stay in a place that's not full of tourists. If you want to do some shopping you'll find the prices are much cheaper than other resorts such as Taormina. Some lovely architecture but a shame about graffiti on some of the buildings.

position in city and availability of parking were excellent. The air conditioning system in the room was erratic and noisy causing discomfort and poor sleep. An inoperative light made the use of the main mirror impossible. Staff did not respond to complaints on either issue until I asked to see the owner and threatened to refuse payment. The hotel is a triumph of design over functionality.

The rooms are nice, clean and quiet . The service is good. Hotel staff is able to speak English. There is free internet available for the hotel guests. The breakfast is rather continental and choice is limited. It is suffcient not to be hungry but do not expect wide choice of dishes.

The staff are delightful. They could not have done more to make us feel welcome and were helpful throughout our stay. The lighting in the rooms was inadequate for the size of the rooms. Either more or brighter lighting would help. I was badly bitten by mosquitoes, but I do like to sleep with my window open! The hotel is halfway up a very steep hill and is not served by a bus. My mother who is 79 found this quite difficult. This isn't the hotels fault of course but older travellers might need to be aware of this.

The bar staff and the ones serving breakfast were fantastic. Because we had something to celebrate, we chose the suite in this hotel. Once we arrived it appeared to us that it's just the same room as the others (not more comfort), the only difference is that it has a separate living room. I wasn't happy at all with the room, booking states that it has a jacuzzi, but it hasn't. The shower isn't working properly and it's constantly changing from very cold to very hot. We payed extra to use the sauna on the top floor, it couldn't be locked so everybody could come in. I've stayed in much better hotels for the same price, in cities around the world. The bar staff and the ones serving breakfast made us happier, they were very friendly, helpful, and charming. But I would never go back to this hotel again.

+++Beautiful interiors & palatial style. Lovely room +++Appropriate value for money +++Perfectly located central to central Catania; shops & restaurants ---Receptionist lied to me; telling me that a taxi to the airport will be slightly more than the "hotel-organised" shuttle (a simple car) when in actual fact a taxi had a standard-rate of €18 & his "shuttle" was €25...

Hi Thanks for your interest, This is the second time I booked the hotel with you. And it was really fantastic. Hope that this report is shown also to the Royal Hotel. In fact I was going to write them to show my gratitude for making my business 3 day holiday a marvelous one. And this is not the first and last. Hope to plan a proper and enjoyable longer holiday. The hotel has a xviii-xix century feeling, whilst still very nicely renovated. The rooms and bathroom is sizeable and clean with nice furtniture, definitely good value for the money. The hotel is 5min located from the very center (Dom), whilst still not on a very busy street. Nice view from the terrace. The breakfast was disappointingly basic and medium quality, did not fit to the nice atmosphere of the hotel. Though the location is beautiful (eating breakfast on a terrace, which can be closed during cold), but very low variaty of food: German chees (in Italy?), private label cheep yoghurt, just one kind of meet, sweets were all the same taste just different form, nothing really special to Italy.

The decor was very luxurious and as such it was a real treat for the beginning of our honeymoon! The staff were really helpful and friendly and the service was excellent. Sitting on the roftop terrace for evening drinks and then again for breakfast was really lovely.

Location in the heart of the historical center, spacious room, interior decoration like of a baroque palace combined with 21st century high tech solutions, good restaurant with a terrace on the first floor with view to the old city. Parking is on site but €10 extra per night. Staff speak English and very helpful. Good value for the money. Remote controlling all facilities, even the curtain, was frustrating. Lights in the room were inadequate, we packed our suitcases practically in darkness after dinner.

Splendid view over Catania until the Sea from our room. Great offer, and a good breakfast on the terrace in the morning. Air conditioning a bit loud in the room, switched it off anyway, so no issue.

Hotel Royal has a very central location, within walking distance of main sights. The dinner was excellent! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Will rather perfer "what I liked least". The room was extremely spacious (we stayed in a suite) but the furniture old. This did not matter so much to me, but some people will be put off.

Courteous receptionist. Old palazzo but renovated. Best of both worlds. Excellent location: quiet, yet just 5 minutes from the main attractions. Poorly maintained. The fan of the air conditioning system didn't work. Instead of sending a person to come up to see what was wrong, the receptionist offered us another room because there was no one who could fix it at that time (3:30 in the afternoon). In the second room, the air con worked, but the hair dryer did not work. The TV also didn't work. There was no additional outlet for our own hair dryer. We ended up drying the hair in the hallway.

The room had a nice view on the old city. There was a patio for sitting outside (without a view). The breakfast was on a nice terrace outside. There was no wifi. Room was quite dark and complicated system for remote control of appliances.
