This hotel is absolutely fantastic for getting into the centre of Catania, practically 5 minutes walk to the centre.
The hotel was a former palace and the rooms are grandiose however the quality of the decor and the cleanliness of the room we stayed in was in my view not up to standard.
The gentleman called Mansour who worked at the reception was amazingly helpful. He arranged our tour of Mount Etna, arranged our taxi pick up the second time after the first receptionist arranged it for the wrong time and was able to enact our room transfer after during our first night we were kept up all night due to our first room beg right above the teenage bar/cafe that is open until 4am.
The breakfast area has lovely views over Catania and he breakfast is of a high quality, particularly the fruit salad, pastries, cakes, rolls, cheese, tomatoes, bread, cereal, fruits.
Chipped paint and plaster in the room, the bed mattress being sunken in the middle, the ultra thin and hard pillows, the stains on the carpet, the smears on the mirrors that could not be wiped off, the stains in the toilet bowl, the stains in the shower basin.
I would highly recommend making sure you have a room that faces onto the courtyard as this will mean you will have a peaceful night's sleep and be away from the busy road outside the hotel. Due to the steepness of the road cars and motorbikes have to rev their engines to maintain their forward drive which as a result can be noisy. Beware asking for a room with a decent view as a result.
In my view this hotel can only be a 3 star at best and this is by Italian standards which are not high, as I know having lived and travelled in Italy for a year.
