The 4-star Hotel Romano House is in an 18th-century noble building in the center of Baroque Catania, skilfully restored by a master architect.

In a historic building in Catania’s historic quarter, Manganelli Palace offers elegant Baroque-style units with free Wi-Fi. The Cathedral is a 3 minute walk away.
Score from 383 reviews Very good
The building was a palace in the past and they kept it beautifully .I really enjoyed it.
The breakfast wasn't as special .
The personnel was very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is really charming. Breakfast is a highlight due to the roof top location as well as due to an offer ecxeeding Italian standards.
Some parts of the hotel need a renovation. Parking was very safe but with € 15 per night too expensive
Had a great dinner with great service!
View from room downhilk was good. .front desk staff very nice with good English.. dining room pleasant.
Bed not great..divided double. very dark Gothic feel to room.. AC and electrics were confusing and unnecessarily complex.
Satisfying and substantial breakfast: peacefulness of location
Excellent location, very close to the city center. Beautiful view from the terrace where we had breakfast. Breakfast was ok (fruit variety). Nice, kind and helpful staff. Bonus points for the suit! We stayed there for one night.
Wi-fi signal constantly disappearing. The hotel rooms look a bit outdated and need some renovation work. Strange smell in our room. The jacuzzi in our bathroom (double standard) was not working.
Staff superb. Location. Good facilities. Clean. Good simple breakfast. Nice big rooms.
No air-con in bedroom, it had been changed to heating only. The room was 26C, had a couple of sweaty nights and with the windows wide open, mosquito bites. but we were moved to a non direct sun room. The hotel needs a little TLC, it would then be a very good place to stay.
We asked for a room with good Wi-Fi connectivity and we got it. We also had a private courtyard, which was perfect for drying clothes.
The staff especially mansour was very attentive, have no complaints apart from the steep hill up to the hotel but that can't be helped, nice little courtyard/balcony with the room
nothing to complain about
the interior style
dirty mat，cold，uncomfortable bed
While Catania's four star Royal does not offer exact equivalence to the (almost) palatial and similarly starred Grand Hotel Et Dest Palmes in Palermo ( a rather pleasant week long stay in 2010) - the property does manage to notch up quite a few plus points in its favour. The Alitalia flight from Napoli to Sicilia's second largest and much underrated city - a baroque pearl if there ever was one - was near perfect and a short taxi ride took me to the steep elevation of Via Antonio di Sangiuliano 337, where the Royal is located. The lobby with a spectacular gilded chandelier apart from being elegant has a warm and welcoming feel to it and my appointed suite on the 1st Floor named after Bellini's legendary opera "I Puritani" appeared as if straight out of a period film set - rather magnificent to the travel-weary eye on first viewing and consistently so thereafter. A well stocked mini bar and spacious wardrobe with a good supply of hangers and extra blankets, along with a safety box added utilitarian value to the otherwise ostentatious surroundings - the ceiling in rose pink and burnished gold being breathtakingly preserved! The breakfast spread was good if not extraordinary and the roof top sauna, solarium and jacuzzi against the backdrop view of the formidable Etna added a definite plus. Excellent staff members, so courteous and obliging. I remember the lovely Alessandra and Daniela with particular warmth. Well located too. One can walk to almost any venue of note with confidence.
The wifi connectivity needs to be looked into as same would not function from the suite. Also the shower in an otherwise well appointed bathroom is perched a bit too high for personal comfort ...
This hotel is absolutely fantastic for getting into the centre of Catania, practically 5 minutes walk to the centre. The hotel was a former palace and the rooms are grandiose however the quality of the decor and the cleanliness of the room we stayed in was in my view not up to standard. The gentleman called Mansour who worked at the reception was amazingly helpful. He arranged our tour of Mount Etna, arranged our taxi pick up the second time after the first receptionist arranged it for the wrong time and was able to enact our room transfer after during our first night we were kept up all night due to our first room beg right above the teenage bar/cafe that is open until 4am. The breakfast area has lovely views over Catania and he breakfast is of a high quality, particularly the fruit salad, pastries, cakes, rolls, cheese, tomatoes, bread, cereal, fruits.
Chipped paint and plaster in the room, the bed mattress being sunken in the middle, the ultra thin and hard pillows, the stains on the carpet, the smears on the mirrors that could not be wiped off, the stains in the toilet bowl, the stains in the shower basin. I would highly recommend making sure you have a room that faces onto the courtyard as this will mean you will have a peaceful night's sleep and be away from the busy road outside the hotel. Due to the steepness of the road cars and motorbikes have to rev their engines to maintain their forward drive which as a result can be noisy. Beware asking for a room with a decent view as a result. In my view this hotel can only be a 3 star at best and this is by Italian standards which are not high, as I know having lived and travelled in Italy for a year.
Location very good for Duomo, fish market and Via Etnea. Staff excellent especially Maitre D', Faysal, who was charming, knowledgeable, friendly and very good at his job. Restaurant on 2nd floor has glass walls and an outside terrace which gave great views of city. Food top class - we had the taster menu which we could not fault. We would definitely use this hotel again even if, as on this occasion, the lift was not working and we had 80+ steps to our room. The excellent reception staff brought down our bags.
I was concerned about the cleanliness of both the carpet and the bed.
It is charming hotel located very conveniently to all attractions and restaurants. Breakfast area overlooking the city is very nice and there was good selection of food. Overall we can recommend the place and it would select it again for the next stay in Catania.
Internet not available in the room on 4th floor.
rooms were beautiful and big
shower was to close to toilet which got wet everytime we showered
Very friendly, helpful and professional staff at all times - special thanks to Alessandra at reception. Charming hotel with all modern facilities. We would stay there again. Nice roof terrace for drinks and breakfast.
The restaurant staff was absolutely wonderful. We felt like we were family. We all agreed that this was a place we would visit again.
Great location, our room was very nice.
Breakfast could be much better. They rent their roof top restaurant for parties on weekend. If you have a room above it, it will be very very noisy till about 3am, the whole weekend.
Very special rooms Friendly personnel Nice location with superb view
Hot tube on roof was not working
Pretty good location, about 5 mins off via Etna up a fairly steep road. Spacious rooms in a hotel with lots of character. Friendly and efficient staff. A short walk to the colourful market and a number of restautants within 5 / 10 mins walk.
The wifi wasn't working in the 3rd floor room I was initially given but the staff were able to move me to 1st floor where the wifi was excellent. Breakfast was extra so went to a local cafe. There is some noise from the road but I still slept well.
It was a very pleasant stay , good location for seeing Catania (near Via Crociferi), nice and elegant room .
The Baroque style inside the hotel & the helpful, infomative friendly staff. The slope up to the hotel is not that bad & the walk to the centre of the town is not that far,we found it well placed.
Perhaps increase the choice of food on the menu.
Restaurant a bit let down with poor meniu.
