I liked the location just outside the busy part of town and I liked the pool. The service at breakfast was very good, as was the food. We did not like the beds or pillows. The pillows were hard as rocks and the beds were just cots. Not what I expect from a 4 star hotel. The staff at the front desk could have been friendlier.

The location was spectacular and room balcony overlooked water. The food was very poor, bread was stale and we were told this was because it was a long weekend. The rooms were noisy and while the tiles on floor are functional they made for amplifying noise and we could hear conversations 2 floors down. The decoration in hotel is very 70's and could do with total refurbishment. Overall a beautifully located hotel but needs refurbishment and new chef

Nice location looking out towards Isola Palmaria - facilities/ rooms a little basic for the price and breakfast was really just cold meats and pastries but the pool deck and views were beautiful - conveniently located to beachfront and main Portovenere restaurant strip.

The hotel is very good, comfortable, good location in Portovenere. Unfortunately, in my opinion not suitable as a basis for exploring the Cinque Terre, because travelling facilities from Portovenere to Cinque Terre are difficult. Portovenere in itself is a very beautiful village with good restaurents, but unsuitable as basis for travel to other destinations.

Friendly, helpful staff and a superb location in a most attractive seaside resort The loud piped music in the poolside bar where drinks are taken before dinner!

Friendly and very helpful staff. Location is perfect for exploring the area. Breakfast is very nice overlooking the pool and beach. If I had been traveling to this area with children it would be an excellent choice. The pool is salt water and a great place for a glass of wine and snooze after a day of hiking and siteseeing. The night we arrived it was 11:00pm by the time we checked in and we were hungry. We tried a few places close by but all had stopped serving. The bartender on the pool deck has only a toaster/panini type of thing but he made us some grilled cheese and prosciutto sandwiches with a glass of the local wine and we were in heaven. Doesn't get much better than that with 5 stars...does it?

This is a very dated (70's) hotel that is more than showing it's age. We stayed at the begining of the high season and paid far too much for not very good accomodation. The town of Portovenere is worth a visit but I would not go back to the Royal Sporting.

The location and the pool are fantastic. The staff aren't very friendly. The walls must be made of cardboard as you can hear your neighbours breathing! The cleaners start vacuming at 8.30am so don't imagine a late start.

“We came in via train from Venice (2 hrs). Taxi was $15 E. We were very surprised when we arrived on the mountain. The pictures on the internet are true. Being there in person was even better. We stayed in the Lirici villa. The visita is mountains, water, trade ships, naval ships and submarines, sailing yachts, sun rise views, and the evening view with the lights is magnificent. The owners and family are so helpful and are there is please. We dined two nights in their restaurant - very special. Breakfast buffet is top quality. We saw Cinque Terre in one day, then rented a car to see the Castle and visit a vineyard. This hotel was a highlight of our trip.” Dennis, Hilton Head Island |
