It was a comfortable and friendly hotel

The rooms are nicely furnished and clean, and many rooms have good views and the terrace on top is very nice. Breakfast was also good with good service.

When we arrive, we were given a quite hot room with a broken A/C unit and it was evident the staff knew this already. The fan motor made a lot of noise and the air flow was nearly nonexistant. We complained to the hotel reception and their only solution was to change rooms and make us pay for an upgrade. We decided to let the noisy A/C run while we went for dinner, and when we returned the room temperature was still quite hot, so we complained again, this time getting the attention of the hotel manager. This time he gave us another room without charging an upgrade, which was the right thing to do. However, the second room A/C was quiet but still ineffective and the room never really cooled off. Also, the plumbing was in the hotel was terrible, with the shower changing from scalding to cold within a second without touching the controls. You had to be careful not to burn yourself. For this class of hotel, these problems are unacceptable and I can not recommend this hotel.

We stayed 3 nights. The first room offered to us was very noisy with the traffic. The air conditioning was also making a terrible noise and we refused to stay in the room. They offered a second room and we moved our luggage. They asked $ 30.00 additional per night. However, it was impossible to take a shower because the water was either too hot or too cold. It was impossible to control the temperature. We had to take a bath. There was no curtain in the shower. Finally, after 2 nights, the problem was solved but we were leaving the next day. I had to fight and refused to pay the extra $ 90.00 . a lot of people were complaining about different maintenance problems.

We like the beautifull view we had from the balcony of the Hotel. We were lucky to be upgraded to the best room of the Hotel. We would definitely use this Hotel again

Location of hotel gave easy access for ferries etc. Our room was large and comfortable. The pool and area was good. It would have been nice if the hotel supplied towels for use by th epool. the balcony was good and supplied with chairs and a small table. the lobby had many areas for guests to sit and relax.

The air conitioned rooms are actually only air conditioned if the central system is turned on by the hotel, at not the guests' convenience as implied by the information given. The internet access is only from the pulic areas in the lobby and very inconvenient. The breakfast was very poor. Only 2 or 3 varieties of cold meats and one cheese. I had to ask for a boiled egg, which was given, but usually these are already available or some other form of egg dish.

Very big and comfortable room

The staff were friendly and extremely helpful, rooms attractive and spacious, and breakfast relaxed in a lovely environment. We relaxed by the pool and even in the summer it was quite with a pleasant atmosphere and no crowds or children. As a young couple we couldn't recommend it more.

Slighly out of the centre, but a short 20 minute stroll into town was nothing to complain about and a nice walk.

I found the location absolutely perfect. Staff in the hotel was very friendly and helpful.good quality swimming pool. Nice big room with comfortable beds.I Will recommend this hotel to all my friends and collegues

If I have to mention a point for improvement, I have noticed some flies landing on ham and cheeses during breakfast. The variety of food could have been a bit better. But it didn't spoil the overall great impression we had of this hotel.

Staff were helpful and friendly. Nice pool and gardens. Interiors were a throwback to an age of elegance and care for design. Nice pianist echoed through the groundfloor through the day. Great food and service. Even our teenage daughter appreciated the finer elements of the hotel. Views over the islands to die for. pleasant walk into the town along the lakeside. We would definately come back here.

Would benefit from fridge/mini bar in the rooms.

The hotel exceeded our expectations. We were upgraded to a lake view superior room. The room was large with a balcony, overlooking Isola Bella. The bathroom contained a bath, and the room had a refrigerator. There was a lift and a delightful outdoor eating area with a great breakfast, lovely views and very nice pool. The price we paid was very reasonable for such a great establishment. We were very close to the funicular and a place from where the boats cruised on Lake Maggiore. There is a beautiful easy lakeside walk in to the main village of Stresa with excellent restaurants and shops. The railway is also very close. My friend and I had a delightful stay at the Hotel Royal. Thank you.

Quiet, ample parking, nice public spaces,friendly waiting staff,nicely furnished,nice outlook over lake, good location.

Room was advertised as having air-con but it did not work at all. Staff pretended to be surprised when this was reported and insisted on inspection tha the system was working. Overheard other guests complaining about the sae problem and staff went through the same song and dance routine.spoiled what was otherwise a very pleasant stay.reported problem again at check out--------no sympathetic response- no compensation offered. I would suggest that you review the advertising of this hotel as having air-con in the bedrooms because this is simply misleading !

Comfortable hotel in a grand old style with a great breakfast.

About a twenty minute walk to the town along the promenade.

The hotel has a nice feel about it with light spacious rooms and lovely paintings. It has a lovely roof-top deck with superb views at sunset. The weather was hot so our whole family enjoyed the pool and our room had a wonderful view of the lake.

The breakfast was disappointing.

Food disappointingly ordinary, out of character with rest of hotel.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location perfect. While the facilities are definitely showing their age, everything is well maintained. Might upgrade to a more upper-end hotel next time, Hotel Royal gives you great value for your money.

Parking is limited, but an over-flow lot is provided.

For the price the services of the hotel are very good.

Quaint, relaxing, picturesque, artistic, personalised, small, quiet. Very clean. Located within a ten minute stroll along the lakeside to the center. Concierge showed us right up to our room. One minute walk to launch for river taxis to islands and cable car. Having breakfast outside on the patio area overlooking the gardens was lovely. Pool area beautiful, with jaccizi and outdoor shower yhat also had hot water running. Good sized bathroom - with old fashioned tea towels for hand towels! Even the key to lock the door was old fashioned.

Can hear the traffic from the hotel grounds. The guests who were staying half board perhaps got more personalised service from the waiters than we did (b&b only and were only staying 3 nights.). No shower curtain (shower in the bath).

Having researched on the internet where to stay in Stresa, we chose this hotel as we wanted a view of the lake and the photographs of the rooms looked good. We were not disappointed and the room and view were fabulous, everything we wanted and more! We liked the location, quieter, out of the town and enjoyed the walk into town (15mins) each night to eat as we did not chose full board. The hotel was in a good position for catching the ferries to the islands. We liked the atmosphere in the hotel, with lovely paintings and furnishings which gave the hotel character.

Would have liked a kettle in the room and tea making facilities.

The hotel is located just a few meters from the peir to borromeo islands and the Motarone cabel car. The hotel's public areas are beautifuly and clasically designed. Staff was friendly and helpful. The bathroom was renovated lately.

The room was very small (perhaps most of the region's rooms are small, i can't tell) and lacked mini bar or refrigerator. The TV was extremly small and no wifi in the room (wifi exists only in several public areas). Breakfast was poor and had very few selection. We found the bread dry.

Seating areas and breakfast were exceptionally good. Bathroom nice. Staff very helpful.

Swimming pool v cold. Room quite small and tiny balcony.

Its location near the ferry, mountain bike, cable car and Avis rental car service. Great views of the Lake and castle. Nice walk to the town center.

Breakfasts lacked fruit except out of a can. Also there was no bank or ATM close by.

The lakeside location, view and access to Stresa and amenities was superb. I traveled by motor cycle and was very pleased when garage space was made available during my stay. The friendliness and efficiency of the resident family and staff made our visit very comfortable and enjoyable. I am pleased I chose Hotel Royal for the holiday.

The location of the hotel was wonderful. We had an excellent view of the lake and the isola bella. The staff was helpful.
