Hotel RoyalVia delle Ruote 52, Fortezza da Basso, 50129 Florence (Show map) Review score 6.7 Score from 62 reviewsIt is unusual to find a hotel with a large garden, parking lot, and swimming pool less than half a mile from the Duomo. Hotel Royal gives you this and more. This splendid Florentine villa was built in 1700. It was a family residence up until 1950 when it was converted into an elegant hotel. It is set in a green neighborhood of Florence, next to the Fortezza da Basso exhibition center and its park. Each guest room at the Royal is air conditioned. The rooms and common areas are all tastefully decorated with antique furnishings. This family-run hotel guarantees a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and an attentive service. The swimming pool is great for a refreshing dip after a day sightseeing around Florence. The parking lot and swimming pool are both available at an additional cost. Hotel Rooms: 39

Location We had the worst experience of our two weeks trip in Italy with Royal Hotel. We booked for Quadruple Room, when we arrived the man at reception(Francesco) told us that air condition in the room is not working so he has to give us two double bed rooms and tomorrow he will give us a quadruple room. We went to the rooms start unpacking & he called after 15 minutes that come down I have a room for you. The huge room in lobby floor we got in and the air condition stopped working after half hour. He came in played with it and start working. He told us by the time we come back from dinner we will see how cold it will be. We got back at 23:00 it was the same hot and terrible. I asked the reception & he said there is not much he can do right now and most of the air condiotions are having problems in this hotel. I & my wife didn't sleep all night. The kids went to sleep around 4:00. next day They gave us another room. We had no water on the same day for 2 hours and the day we had to leave. The breakfast is very poor not even a discent coffee. Hotel is aware of these problems & they just don't care. I expect from Booking.Com to reevaluate this hotel rating so other will not fall into it.

Location, high cellings Had to pay 25 extra for parking (per day), and received an "unofficial" receipt. Swimming pool is 8 Euros extra PLUS 2 Euros if you wanta towel. Notices on the reception indicating all little extras that had to be paid. Staff became friendly, but obviusly are annoyed to have to ask for these extras.

Lovely historic building - palatial family home now converted into a hotel. Antiques in corridors, lovely paintings etc. Nice garden, secluded, quiet. Quiet location in side street, yet only 10 mins walk from the main attractions. Staff on front desk, apart from one man who was on duty in the evenings, were sullen and unfriendly. Never smiled. Breakfast was OK but basic - for example there were just 2 types of cereal. One morning both the croissants and rolls were stale. The shower head in my room was broken - i reported it but it took 2 days to repair. I was astonished that there was an extra charge to use the pool (in fact it was already closed for the winter) - 8 euros a day!

The location was good (about 10 min walking from Piazza Duomo), very nice design of the hotel, old century building. They have little garden with nice places to rest. One of the Hotel Staff guys at Reception was very unpolite and rude with me (young girl), lots of masquitoes, toilet didn't work well, there was a shutter in the shower though on the pictures you see the shower cabins (so after showring all the floor in the Bath was in water), very old pillows,no soap (we have to ask for it),you have to wait for the hot water if you don't stay in the main building (they have several rooms in the small houses in the garden far away from the building),TV remote control didn't work, it was dark in the hall of our garden room and even coffee at breakfast was terrible.I Would not recommend to book this hotel

Atmosphere of ancient villa a bit decadent but with glamor, nice garden and relaxing ambient, the staff is limited so is too busy to give a good service but they are kind. Location is convenient and has a parking place, not easy to find in Florence an hotel with parking even if they charge 25 Euro/day, still is convenient to park you car directly at the hotel.

This hotel was the highlight of the trip for my children. The man at the reception humour had them laughing from the minute we arrived. It may not be eveyones taste but it certainly suited us. The location was right in the centre of Florence just 5 minutes walk from the very best of the attractions. The hotel is a very beautiful old building decorated with period furniture. Not by any means a luxury hotel but exactily what I would think of when thinking of Italian accommodation. The charge for the pool was an extra we hadn't budgeted for and expensive when travelling with children. There was not mention of this (as far as I can remember) on the web site

The hotel has a lovely garden. The building is spacious and the breakfast room and bar are very comfortable and spacious. The facilities and furnishings in the rooms are basic and functional only, especially in comparison to the common spaces which were much more comfortable. The breakfast was minimal.

Great location and the parking, even though was overproced, was a real plus. The bed was very uncomfortable. The hotel advertised a double bed but found two twins together. Additionally, the beds were hard, lumpy and pillows were like rocks. New beds and decent pillows would make the stay much nicer.

Hotellet ligger I en litt herskapelig bygning. Standarden innvendig gjenspeiler også noe av dette. Rent, plettfrie og strøkne duker, lysekroner, kunst, høyt under taket mv. Imidlertid koster alt noe ekstra.

“It was just as described and better! So very wonderful! Traveling solo first time to Florence. Perfect location for me...the walk into the center down the ancient cobblestone streets, the pool at the end of the day, the quiet location, the large room with high ceilings, its understated elegance and antiques, huge marble bath and large patio overlooking the grounds and Tuscan hills was enough to make me want to return in the spring. Loved everything about it...even met some wonderful people from Berlin. The breakfast buffet was amazing! The staff so very helpful in setting up daily excursions and taxi service for me...I Highly recommend this very special palace!” Patricia, Malibu |

“Excellent location overlooking Florence old part of town. Located on a hill with a beautiful pool. Very helpfull concierge service by suggesting some great dinning experience in Florence. Swimming pool and its surroundings - it made us enjoy the trip even better as it was extremelly hot and so gave us the opportunity to hide away from the heat.” Gasper, Ljubljana |
