Hotel San Marco    

Relaxing hotel outside the city walls with very helpful staff. Quiet ambience and a nice swimming pool to relax by.

The taps in the bathroom didn't work well.

Great location for visiting Lucca and exploring the surrounding countryside. 10 minute walk into the old centre of the city, and good local restaurants nearby avoiding paying tourist prices. Good breakfast selection. Comfortable rooms.

It sounds daft but the taps were a triumph of design over practicality and difficult to turn on and off. Perhaps not the easiest hotel to find without a sat nav. Car park needs care getting in and out, and might fill up at a busier time of year.

The people who worked there were wonderful, very helpful, especially the people at the front desk. The hotel is very modern and clean. Breakfast was great.

The rooms were smaller than expected - only 16 sq. m., not 25 sq. m. as said in booking.com description.

Visitors must take into account that the hotel is outside whe wall city of Lucca, about €12 taxi if coming from the train station. About a 10 minute walk to get to the centre. Absolutely not a problem.

Stayed there before, will stay there again. We love Lucca, and this hotel is brilliantly placed to walk into the walled town. It also has a lovely swimming pool area, and friendly staff.

The gentleman on reception (should have asked his name), was courteous and helpful and put us at eas straightaway. He not only gave us a warm welcome, but provided us with useful information/map where to eat as we had arrived in the evening. He also ordered us a taxi to the bus station on our return journey and looked after our luggage. Staff in the breakfast area were also friendly and efficient. Rooms were clean and we enjoyed swimming daily in the pool. The room was a nice size and very quiet. Everything you need from a hotel.

Midges outside. We suffered from insect bites. In the shower, the holder of the shower head kept moving so it was not always easy to direct the showerhead. It needed a minor repair but we did not report it. I am sure it would have been sorted out if we had done so.

We booked this hotel on the strength of past reviews on Booking.com and weren't disappointed. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. The room had good Wi-Fi connection and was very clean. The swimming pool is smaller than other hotels but again very clean. Breakfast was good. The hotel is a ten minute walk into the centre of Lucca. An added bonus was the Bruton beer, which is an Italian Micro brewery.

nothing, I will certainly return to the San Marco and to Lucca.

Situated in a wonderful town, excellent location and service.

The staff were exceptionally friendly, very courteous & welcoming. They were very helpful during our stay. The restaurants they recommended were very good, Miranda's in fact was our favourite meal in Italy! The hotel was well located just a short 10 minute walk from the old city walls. Our room was clean & comfortable. We loved the bathroom as it had plenty of space & a great shower!

The only downside was the bites we got at the pool!! Not sure if they were mosquito bites but they were quite nasty.

The staff were excellent and extremely knowledgable about the area. The rooms were clean and comfortable, breakfast had a good choice and the pool area was very welcome after a day of exploring the area. We would most definately stay here again and have no problem in recommending to others. Lucca is well placed for travelling around Tuscany and a train ride from Florence

Location of just outside the old town.

All the mosquito's around the pool and on the patio all day long. So the reason we chose the hotel, the pool, we were not able to use. It is the reason we will not use the hotel again

Really lovely hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a good location about a ten minute walk from the City Walls of Lucca. The hotel is great for a relaxing stay as it has a lovely pool area. The rooms are very comfortable with Wi-Fi and television. We rented bikes from the hotel. The bikes are very comfortable.

Mosquitos!!!

One of the staff members was extremely impolite! We had made a reservation for the price of 140 Euros/night. When we got to the hotel reception I overheard a phone conversation between one member staff and a client who wanted to book a room. The price being given was 120 Euros. When I confronted the employee with the situation he was unable to come up any coherent reply, saying only that it was the last room (which it wasn't because later on I complained about my room and I was given an alternative room) and that our room was on the 1st floor, being less noisy and therefore considered as an upgrade (please note that, according to the records, the hotel doesn't apply different rates according to the floor you stay in: all double rooms are equal). Another employee (the extremely rude one who kept interrupting the conversation) told me that if we weren't happy we could just leave!!! Because according to Bookings official reservation policy the first night was not reimbursable and we would automatically lose the deposit!!! The next morning we got 10 minutes late for breakfast. Having paid 140 Euros for a 3 star hotel we thought they would show us some flexibility and let us to have the breakfast....wrong! (Despite the several trays with food being still on display in the dining room and clients being there eating). They gave us a miserable coffee and stated they were not forced to do so!! That they were just being generous! I would not pay more than 60 Euros for a night at this hotel. I will certainly not return. The pool is not bigger than a washing tank and the beds are not comfortable. This is the typical steal as much as you can from tourists type of hotel.

location was brilliant to get to the train station, airport and city no issues from noise pollution from traffic etc pool was great breakfast was good safe and clean hotel staff were very kind and friendly/helpful

only comment would be to provide more insect repellent by pool and outside dining area

Hotels in Italy can be expensive and also old fashioned. This hotel is clean, modern and good value when compared to others. The staff our very friendly and professional and the location is good. Luca is a great place to visit.

No tea or coffee making facilities in the bedroom and a bedroom design that is more practical / functional than totally relaxing / comfortable.

We have stayed here twice before and it is still as good as ever.

Personell is exceptionally good. Free bikes are brilliant, the best way to see Lucca. A good experience.

The rooms were clean, the breakfast was nice and It was an easy walk to Lucca. coming back to the hotel for a swim and relaxing by the pool after seeing the sites in Lucca was a nice break before heading back for dinner.

Located close to the city centre (Lucca city wall), the hotel offers good and affordable rooms, extensive breakfast and enough parking space. Personnel is the best, friendly and helpful!

The hotel does not have a restaurant, but pizza's can be ordered.
