We really loved the location of this cozy B&B in the Sassi area of Matera. The room was spacious and comfortable and our hosts were pleasant and helpful.
The WiFi strength was not great. We had to sit near the unit in the breakfast room to use the internet.
The proximity to all the major sites in Matera. We parked our car in a garage, close to the B&B and left it there for our two-day stay. Everything we wanted to see was in walking distance from the B&B. The friendly, knowledgeable, attentive staff who offered wonderful restaurant recommendations and shared some of Matera's history with us. We traveled with another family member and loved having what was basically a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment where we could be together. The apartment was spacious, the beds were comfortable and the bathrooms had great showers. It was also very quiet. This was our second trip to Matera and we would definitely go back again. We would also definitely return to Sassolino B&B. It was a terrific value for our money!
This establishment was difficult to find but once we did, everything fell into place! Sassolino is in a nice location with restaurants and gorgeous views close by. There are two separate private bedrooms with a large common eating area - as we were the first guests that day, we chose the smaller room because it had a true window, even though the upper bedroom was more spacious. The hosts were friendly, funny, helpful and very sweet. Breakfasts was standard self-service continental fare and juice, yogurt and waters were kept in the frig all the time, which I really appreciated. You could also make yourself coffee/tea whenever you desired. When I requested some fresh fruit, an enormous bowl was brought! Easily recommend.
Our room was a bit cave-like and the bathroom hard to maneuver in but what it lacked was more than made up for with the all around goodness of the staff.
Very nice traditional room, friendly stuff, the view is great. Everything was perfect.
Lino, Gracia and Tatiana went way beyond your typical hotel receptions. From being so patient in giving us directions on how to get to their place, ( there was a film shooting nearby and traffic got re rerouted) to catering to our whims for breakfast, to suggestions on what to do, where to eat..etc..They were just on hand the whole time to assist us. Perfect hosts , we felt like we were long time friends! Highly recommended!
Friendly owner, location in the middle of the Sassi is excellent, nice room in a caracteristic style, with a small terras and living room.
The living room is common with another appartment, which give some noise.
The facilities are centrally located to see the Sassi and within walking distance of the city centre. Room was big, clean and in a cave form typical of Matera's Sassi. European breakfast was provided everyday (great freshly baked potatto pizza slices, good coffee, fruit, etc) but mainly self-served in typical B&B style.
Friendly staff and beautiful bedroom. Excellent common room facilities and deck.
There didn't seem to be much sound proofing between our upstairs bedroom and the common area. We needed to check out by 9am but there was no one around and we had to leave cash with the cleaner.
Lino and his wife were friendly and helpful. The products they sell in their shop are great.
Shower in bathroom was low. Not good for a tall person.
Central location in heart of the Sasso Caveoso. Very helpful young man (English speaking) in shop next door which acts as the reception. Ease of parking in the square a few metres down the road. Excellent dining suggestion a couple of hundred metres up the road. Just an all round relaxing experience!
Everything was great. The only small problem was in initially navigating our way to the property. We were driving and our GPS tried to take us in from the top end of the road which was closed off in central Matera. Once a helpful person on the street explained we had to go back on ourselves and come in the long way round from opposite side everything was fine.
Great place to stay in the middle of the old town. Friendly hosts and fab deli underneath (owned by the same people). Proper coffee machine in the kitchen and tasty breakfast. Definitely recommend staying here.
Location and staff were great!
