I made a mistake with my dates when booking so that when we arrived we didn't have a room reserved. The young guy at reception did all he could to make sure we could be accommodated that night. We left our luggage for 1 hour and went and had a gelati and then the room was ready. The room had a big double bed and 2 camp beds for our 16 and 9 year olds. The bathroom was gorgeous with the best toiletries I had seen. There was a small bar fridge. The whole hotel is in a gorgeous old art noveau style. Breakfast was spectacular in a beautifully decorated room and the option of eating on the balcony (which we did!). We used this hotel as a base for a boat trip to Portofino (a must do). The port is very close. The car is parked elsewhere and you have to give your keys to reception. When you want the car you let them know 20 minutes in advance. You get a receipt. This all worked out ok for us. Wi-fi was good in the room.

This is a lovely hotel in the grand old fashioned tradition. Beautiful terrazzo floors in the room and a spacious marble bathroom. It is on a busy roundabout so it is best to ask for a quiet room. We paid euros 98 per night including breakfast which was a wonderful buffet style with lots of variety. Parking would have been 18 euros extra per night but we were lucky to get a spot very close to the hotel which was free so we left our car there for the whole time of our stay. We liked the area as it was not so congested as the tiny lanes nearer to the port. We would certainly stay there again. We were not happy that the only English tv channel available was Eurosport - no cnn or bbc. We dined next door in the Grand Savoia Hotel which is the sister hotel to the Continental but we found the food to be very insubstantial, expensive and not value for money although the service and surroundings were excellent. We could not recommend it, nor would we dine there again. There were very few customers in the dining room and we can understand why. It is a pity because the dining room is very beautiful. Other than those 2 complaints we had a very enjoyable stay.

Great location near to station and good quality for the price - I stayed on my way from venice to the south of france and broke the train journey in genoa, which I have done before - if you arive late and need to leave early, it is most convenient. The staff are not as sharp/efficient as other hotels of similar rating.

The location near the central railway station was great. While the hotel is quite old, the rooms have been well refurbished and the staff were awesome!! The only lift is cute (from the steam age) but it only operates when pdeparting passengers shut both the doors. We were on the fifth floor and had to make the trek up several times, when thoughtless individuals failed to do this... A very minor gripe.

Good location near the Piazza Principe station, it takes a 5 min to get to the Villa Principe or Via Balbi with Palazzo Reale. Nice breakfast, especially a possibility to have it outdoor.

The breakfast was fantastic, as good as any I have ever had at any hotel I have ever stayed in. The location was great, it was a leisurely 15 minute walk into town and right opposite the train station. The hotel was comfortable and clean and the rooms were large as well. Check in was from 2pm onwards we arrived at 3.40pm only to be told that it would be a further 30 minutes until our rooms were going to be available and we did not recive an apology for that. We eventually checked in at 4pm. The quality of the reception on the television in our room was very poor indeed.

The front desk staff at check in was brilliant. We speak a little Italian, and she persevered and allowed us to check in fully in italian, when it would have been much quicker for her to switch to english. She also outlined on a map the best route to walk around the city, and the main sights. The hotel is close to the train station and within easy walking distance of the old town. The rooms are large and well appointed. There was an excellent selection for breakfast. Although the rooms were well appointed and on the surface great, there were just a few maintenance issues. The drain in the shower was blocked, and the heated towel rail didn't actually work, and given it was the middle of winter it would have been better if it had.

The staff were friendly and efficient. The room was spacious and well-furnished, and not over-modernised; thus, one could feel one was in Italy, rather than a faceless Internationalsville. Bath plug didn't work well - a minor complaint.

The location of the railway station to the hotel was a short stroll, and when you are lugging a 20kg suitcase you do not want to be walking for kilometers. The room was brilliant, every thing you wanted was there, no outside noise. Great eateries , and cafes within a short walk from the hotel. On offer for breakfast was truly amazing everything you would want, and this was included in the tarrif. All the staff were so friendly and helpful. The free wifi was not working during our stay, and I really needed it to contact family that we were meeting the next day in another country.

The art-deco design of the hotel was beautiful and the breakfast served in the breakfast room each morning was delicious with a very nice selection of items including made-to-order hot beverages. The lobby was very small, almost non-existent. There was no place to sit unless you were in the breakfast room or hotel room. There were also not enough staff working in the hotel

Fairly nice hotel room, rich breakfast, nice staff. Although hotel is located close to Genova city center, and it is next to the main train station, aquarium, the immediate surrounding is scary, quite disappointing. Hotel parking is expensive, public parking is impossible.

Good location - room clean and big enough for 4 nights but regret not having room with view of port or street. Very disappointed with our room - noisy with air conditioning pumps through the night and a dreadful view onto dirty scruffy courtyard. Would have been ok for business trip for one possibly two nights -should have asked if there were any spare rooms as above really became irritating after 2 nights - we stayed for four.
