Signum is a charming 4-star hotel situated on the Aeolian island of Salina. With beautiful panoramic views of the sea, the hotel is ideal for a relaxing break.

Created from a group of antique houses, Signum is surrounded by 2 beautiful inactive volcanoes, lush greenery and aromatic perfumes of the island’s exquisite jasmine and citrus trees. Each room at Signum is located in one of the newly renovated, historic houses, full of antique furniture and typical local dècor. From here you can admire stunning views of the sea or a relaxing panorama of the natural gardens.

The relaxing infinity swimming pool, many terraces, bar and restaurant all look out over the beautiful Mediterranean Sea.

In honour of its 20-year anniversary, Signum has now opened Salus Per Aquam Spa, an elegant wellness centre, offering the most exclusive services and products. Here you can enjoy natural therapies, and use of refined materials and equipment such as herbal baths in 19th-century copper tubs. Following the ancient traditions of Aeolian spas, the wellness centre features an open-air area where you can enjoy massages and whirlpool facilities.

In 1988, husband and wife owners Clara Rametta and Michele Caruso had a dream of creating a luxury hotel in the village in which they were born, however the village did not want a hotel in the middle of their small hamlet. So, they were shut down and given a seal, or sigillo (the Latin derivation of sigillo is signum).

Eventually, the mayor’s office had a change of heart, and Clara and Michele were able to begin their venture, and as an homage of all the hard work they put in, they named it Hotel Signum.

The hotel's philosophy is to give you the most relaxing and enjoyable stay in welcoming environment, where every detail is taken care of by the friendly staff.

In the hotel you can enjoy access to a library, where you can also watch television or a video, or check the internet. The swimming pool and the solarium are also available for you, free of charge.

Food & beverage

Renowned island chef Michele Caruso prepares traditional Aeolian dishes, as well as his own creations using fresh local fish, homemade pasta, and seasonal vegetables.

You can enjoy your delicious meals ‘al fresco’, on the terrace overlooking the sea, or in the solarium-style veranda.

To compliment your meals, the hotel boasts a wide variety of wonderful wines from Salina and Sicily.

Breakfast is served from 08:00 - 10:30.
Lunch is served from 12:30 - 15:00.
Dinner is served from 20:00 - 22:30.

Area information

Salina gives you the opportunity to explore it's picturesque copuntryside; you can hike to Monte Fossa Delle Felci, or Monte Porri. You can also take a boat to the island of Stromboli and climb to the top of the crater or visit the nearby Pollara Bay, where the famed film Il Postino was shot, here you can enjoy the most incredible sunset.

Also available, tours of Salina by boat, or you could rent a scooter and explore the island for yourself.

There are 2 museums to visit on the island; one is found in the village of Lingua which is filled with historical artefacts exhibiting the long-standing traditions of Salina, the other is in the village of Malfa. This museum tells the history of the island people. Also in Malfa, is a botanical museum which boasts the islands many flora.

The staff at reception will be more than happy to help you make any of the necessary arrangements.

Travel information

It is possible to get to Salina during all times of the year from Naples, Messina, Reggio Calabria, Palermo and Cefalù by ferry.

When you arrive on the island, there are taxis or a public bus available at the port to take you on the 10 minute ride to Malfa, where Hotel Signum is located.

The nearest airports are Catania, Reggio Calabria and Palermo.
It’s possible to take a taxi from any of these airports to the main water ports where you can connect with the ferries.

There is also helicopter service available to Salina from all of the above-mentioned airports.

By bus:

- Get off the bus at Malfa town centre.
- From here you have to walk down along the main street and in no more than 5 minutes you will find the hotel.

The airport shuttle from Catania to Milazzo, would be EUR 115.
